you start off so weak that tackling any gang hideouts is just a frustrating exercise in dying over and over and over again

and other dudes have already leveled up to crazy heights (even though the game's only been out two days) that you're just gonna get slaughtered and not get any enjoyment out of it

i give this a month before the community is completely dead, maybe at least the co-op stuff will be fun if you can find anyone left  to play with you once it comes out

Well with a bandanna you can do bad deeds and take a small (50 points, nothing really) honor hit but take no fame hit. Honor is easy to get. I'm maxxed and only just got to Mexico. Fame is much harder to get, so the bandanna is useful.

I did an hour or two of free roam with one other guy and we were taking down hideouts with no problem. We did 3, and some hunting missions.

Why aren't there more missions though? It keeps saying we have unlocked more but no one in town talks, you can't collect pelts or sell anything, and it's just a ton of gang hideouts.

The poncho outfit is kinda weak.  At this point I don't think this duster outfit is ever coming off.  But I will say that the way cloth moves in this game is impressive, like Batman AA cape movement.

Today I started playing this game in the break room and after about 30 minutes there were probably thirty people watching and flipping out at every fucked up thing I did (shoot dog in front of owner, skin it, then shoot Johnny Law as he comes to take me out)

Sometimes it can be but yeah, there's a fast travel system via your campsite if you want to use it (which I haven't done yet), or you can take a stagecoach.  Lots and lots of horseback riding in this one though.

horse riding feels a bit like Shadow of the Colossus.  If it ever has been tedious for me, it's when you have to ride alongside someone else, and in that case you can just hold A to move at the their speed.  The reason that's boring is because you don't have all the side stuff to do in the world as you ride.  When I'm riding around freely, there are the random events that pop up, hunting, or just see something else cool you want to check out.  There are things to see and do in the world and it doesn't feel like endless travel to me.

But yeah, you can do quick travel to any location including the waypoint you set.  I don't understand the purpose of a stagecoach unless you love watching things happen the world but touching the controller.  Traveling from camp is free while the stagecoach can become relatively expensive.  To set up camp, all you need to do is ride out of town a bit until you find a stretch of land.

some horses are faster than others, but it really doesn't affect gameplay other than world travel, i've been doing just fine with the default horse

okay, i like multiplayer a little better now, had a cool gang hideout event with a couple of other dudes where we had each other's backs

only problem is other players can come in and kill you when you're trying to complete a free roam event like clearing a gang hideout, that's kind of bullshit

and you're pretty much resigned to getting stomped by everyone until you earn better weapons and level up, i wonder why developers insist on making people slog through that kind of grindy shit in mp to get to the fun

no one ever wants to play any matches, either, so i hope those co-op missions are good

if anyone's up for it, let's try to assemble a bore private game sometime this weekend, i believe we can squeeze some fun out of this bitch by playing together

Usually the horses you see hauling ass are the fast ones, plus it pays to just kill your horse when you find a new one for some horse meat/skin. Only problem is minus honor

I own both, and I'm going through the second episode of Alan Wake right now. It's a fun game, not for everyone. It tickles some of my fetishes, but I don't think it'll appeal to everyone or even most Xbox 360 owners.

Multiplayer blemishes and a few design flaws aside, I really love Red Dead Redemption. And this is coming from someone that pretty much despised GTA4.

i had my notices turned off so i did not see your message until it was too late

they need to add some more stuff to do in free roam, like random events from the sp (roadside people trying to rob you, etc)

there are ai people riding around and walking, but just shooting them to get a wanted level gets old pretty quickly

it  just doesn't ever feel "alive"

just ONCE i would like a side mission to have a happy or at least satisfying ending - they always end in tragedy or have a creepy twist, and you just feel like you wasted your time, gets really tiresome

im getting the same effect i had with gta4, the game gets old fast and i can only play it in short spurts, i blame the over bearing theme - the trademark r* delayed controls and sludgy sometimes tank like movement - tedious save system - and last but not least the long cutscenes/pre mission dialogue/unskippable skinning video
