Probably not, because as said, the dragon fruit was an artificial fruit by vegapunk and vegapunk disagreed with unethical practices that caesar did. it's probably something else turned into a dragon. momonosuke can talk, the dragon they ate couldn't.

So, I found the Shonen Jump iOS app a few days back. It has all of One Piece, in both B&W and color (100 yen per vol. extra) so I've started reading it just to find out what the fuss is. It's nice to think of all the shelf space i'm saving, and manga are decent value for money for me in Japanese since I read that a lot slower than English.

I tried reading it a few years back but it was just too childish or something for my mood at the time. I'm finding it more enjoyable now, after spending 5 years watching kids' stuff with my daughter. On vol. 2 now.

it looks really nice, although this being Japan, the scans are totally ghetto and not Retina-res. They'd probably look good at iPad Mini size but some of the text is really blurry on iPad 3

Ya OP doesn't really shine until you get to Nami's home town.

When might that be

The anime at least goes

-Pick up zoro
-Pick up Nami, fight Buggy
-Pick up Ussop
-Pick up Sanji

Then Nami's home town.
All were roughly the same length.  Ussops might have been a bit longer (and the most boring part of the whole series)

ya that's not good.  Ussops stuff is the only thing I would consider bad.  Sanji's was fun, but it's Nami's arc where you realize OP is something special.   :uguu  It's well worth just powering though.

Do not skip. All pre-Arlong Park arcs have good bits, and One Piece is a story about the characters and their interactions. Skipping their background stories would be stupid.

zoro has haki but so far only has awareness. Plus, Zoro DID manage to parry her snow sword. So who knows? But all signs point to Zoro NOT having armament haki.

But haki isn't super saiyan mode. Just because someone has haki doesn't mean they can hit and beat any logia. They'll still have to deal with their powers, and Monet can teleport with her snow. She has a mobility factor that Zoro just can't keep up with.

good action ep. zoro can use haki, but he's chivalrous, so he isn't gonna hit her. that's why tashigi's shown up. also, this is kinda tashigi's chance to prove she doesn't suck to zoro.

Great chapter.  Loved seeing everyone be useful.  The Robin attack shattering Monet was great.  I really, really hope we see Tashigi kick some ass.  Strong woman character go!  Don't end up being a damsel in distress for Zoro to save!

"Oh, for a mentally challenged person that was quite articulate"

:rofl

I'll never tire of the Sanji/Zoro rivalry.

My only complaint is on a power balancing seeing all these upgraded crew members not being able to beat a single Logia user.  Those Logia users are pretty high level so maybe it's not so weird.  I like how at least it doesn't show them struggling much, they're pretty even with her.

I think all this endgame fight stuff in this arc will read really well when it's over and you read it straight through.  Lots of good action, cool characters, good team ups, good comedy and pretty solid pacing all around.  Art is excellent as well.

I think Zoro's lack of counter-attacking is something else.  Like I think he was trying to defend and let everyone escape first.  Note that once everyone escapes and she says that, more people run in.  I think Zoro going full offense would like destroy the room or something so he's holding back.  I think he can hit her.

Or maybe he can't and he'll learn it from Tashigi.  Dunno.

Every past Logia user besides Caribou has been defeated under special circumstances.  Also I remember in the beginning someone saying the logia doesn't matter much if you don't know how to fight and Caribou didn't.

Alabasta - he fought against a steel man. He couldn't cut steel, and had to learn how to in order to win.
CP9 - Usopp was handcuffed to him.
Fishmen - He fought Hodi Jones UNDERWATER. WHILE being surrounded by dozens of fishmen henchman of Hody.
Skypiea - I don't even fucking remember Zoro's fight in this arc?

True.  Himu stop giving me bad arguments for me to agree with.

edit:  Ok you are both right.  It went to show of how powerful Zoro had become, which isn't a handicap, but then Hodi did his steroids thing, which caused Zoro not to be able to defeat him, so it counted as a handicap in the end.

This is enough weeabooing for me today.

Alabasta fight is a total handicap. He couldn't even damage Daz. His handicap is the fact he couldn't cut steel.

I'm not even sure why this is an argument. Why do you think Zoro fights with one eye closed despite not being blind in that eye? To handicap himself, to become the best, and push his limits.

For One Piece fans, you guys are pretty bad One Piece fans.

I assumed the point you were trying to make was that zoro is always artificially underpowered.  In Alabasta he isn't.  That was litigate under-poweredness.

A handicap means a lot of things. Maybe he's injured (Arlong), maybe he doesn't have all three swords (Thriller Bark), maybe he can't even damage his opponent (Alabasta). The point is, just about every major Zoro fight against someone has the odds stacked against him in some absolutely ridiculous way.

Zoro handicaps via Arlong Park:

Zoro Vs. Cabaji
• Stab wound inflicted by Buggy

Zoro Vs. Sham / Buchi
• Usopp interference / One Sword

Zoro Vs. Hachi
• Slash inflicted by Mihawk

Zoro Vs. Tashigi
• Looks like Kuina

Zoro Vs. Kaku / Jayubura
• Usopp attached to wrist

Zoro Vs. Ryuma
• Only having two swords

Zoro Vs. Kuma
• Damage from Oars

Zoro Vs. Pascifista
• Damage from Kuma

Zoro's win makes a lot more sense now that haki was explained. It's not that he learned how to cut steel, he just used haki. Daz's last line sorta foreshadows a fight with Joz later too.

y'all are fulla crap. zoro will only strike a woman if she's on his level -- he's even said as much. monet's admitted she's not a great melee type. he told tashigi she wasn't yet worth his strike. in zoto's world, if you're femalr and not at kuina's levrl (with respect to zoto's current levrl), he's gonna play defense only. oda's been consistent on this.
