Step into the castle, if you dare! Double Fine's senior gameplay programmer Anna Kipnis is joined by legendary designer Koji Igarashi for a playthrough of the cult classic "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night". :oBefore I click, how awkward is this?

IGA decided to go with 2.5D for this project for both financial and artistic reasons. All decisions in game development involve trade-offs, and for Bloodstained a 2.5D world built on Unreal Engine 4 was the right choice to balance development time, graphical fidelity, budget, and scope.

Seriously, why should I if I'm not an IGAvania nut? Explain to me, oh borked one, why. I don't need to be part of the cool kid's club, I'm perfectly fine getting it 6-12 months later for dirt cheap. Thanks for subsidizing it for me you rubes, I guess.
Funded already. :american

Am I the only one surprised at the speed of this KS?
I honestly thought this would have problem meeting its goal. Those Castlevania games always seemed pretty damn niche to me. Pretty cool nevertheless.
Fucking video game kickstarter nerds, I swear ::)
What's a dead franchise with lapsed rights that we can buy for cheap and do a kickstarter for, guys?
Apparently Wii U is in the basement.
Apparently Wii U is in the basement. The amount of money this thing's raked in so far reaching the basement via pledges isn't unlikely. If you really want it to happen that badly you know what to do.
Like always. :gloomy
That shit was my most played 360 title by a lot. :hyper
I have no doubt in my mind that if Konami allowed him, Iga would've made Metroidvania's on the consoles (read: non-Nintendo handheld) beyond that multiplayer PSN/XBLA title.
Also, the PS3 version never got the final patch that actually fixed Maria, so its possible to buy a DLC character that's 100% useless. :lol
I kind of assumed the game already had online co-op, before that stretch goal got added. This was in the video itself after all.
This looks really bad, aren't there enough good metroidvania games already?
Alright, I'll kickstart this game, sure.
While I wait, what's the best Gameboy Advance / ds / 3ds Castlevania... looking for action rpg ala Symphony of the Night, mainly. Amazon has em all pretty cheap when I checked earlier.

Apparently Wii U is in the basement.this thing comes out in 2017, are we even sure the Wii U will be a thing by then? It could come to the whatever Ninty platform is out by then, but nobody is banking on a long Wii U lifespan.
Like always. :gloomy
But who won, sword or whip?
Its grind-city only if you have the masochistic compulsion to get every single thing in the game/try to clear Hard mode/do DLC stages. Otherwise, it's stll a fun romp, though very obviously designed to be played with multiple people at once. It's pretty neat seeing how they ripped all the different character's mechanics straight out of their respective games, like Soma having a different soul for every single enemy, Shanoa absorbing spells that enemies cast and using her floaty anti-gravity rings, etc.
There's only like six maps/chapters in the base game, with like one or two extra maps that used to be DLC in the 360 version, two difficulties to each.
Edit: Bloodstained broke another stretch goal and is on course for hitting local co-op. Ain't stopping this train.
as sure as I am that this will be mechanically sound, I never figured I'd miss A. Kojima's art for this kind of game as much as I do here.
I'm sure it'll be fine in the long run, but I'm really missing it so far.Apparently Wii U is in the basement.this thing comes out in 2017, are we even sure the Wii U will be a thing by then? It could come to the whatever Ninty platform is out by then, but nobody is banking on a long Wii U lifespan.

Harmony of Despair during its heyday was a blast. Broken Somas everywhere that could glitch through everything with his souls all while spamming Muramasa and Claimh Solais +1, Shanoas grinding spells for all eternity cause fuck spell levels but beastly once they actually got anywhere, Alucards acting like they were as good as Soma with Valmanway +1, all the Belmonts pretending they were any good. :rejoice

Basically turning the game into a six room pre-SotN Castlevania.
It's already lost $10K hitting the Nintendo goal. Wonder how the portable goal would lose.

“One day, even though I know it would not sell, I want to create a game that is made for myself, to myself. For that purpose, I hope to make Bloodstained a base and spread on from there.”
Players will have the option to mine cryptocurrency while playing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night!
At launch, supported currencies will include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Zcash, with additional currencies possibly being added at a later date. Players will also have the freedom of linking the currency wallet of their choice to the game’s mining function.
The team has been working on this feature for quite some time, and as you can imagine, the challenges have been numerous and daunting, but thanks to a lot of dedication and technical skill it’s become a reality.
At the moment, due to the resources required by modern GPUs for cyptocurrency mining, this feature will only be enabled for copies of Bloodstained on PC that meet certain system requirements, (system requirements TBD as we are still optimizing) but we are also working hard to make this feature a reality for our fans on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch* and Xbox One.

How does this compare to the B-tier Igavanias on gba/ds/3ds?
My main issue with the game is some of the level design but overall I think it's a solid classicvania.
Btw, how do you kill allies for a solo run?
EDIT: Nevermind, realized you can attack them instead of talking to them for that.
So Curse of the Moon downloads for consoles aren't ready yet? Don't really want to have to install Steam on this new computer :(
So wait. What's the 2.5D stuff? I was utterly uninterested in that. This, this I want. But is that 2.5D stuff the same game with different graphics and it's coming later or what?

If only there was a way to play older game systems on your PC or other devices. Like..."emulating" them, if you will. :thinkingBtw bought this, is veteran the way to play? Will i get lives back after a stage?
Veteran = Old-school Castlevania style. You get knocked back when hit, which can make jumps or platforming sections with enemies difficult. Limited number of lives.
Casual = You don't get knocked back when hit and have unlimited lives.
Other than that, the difficulty is the same AFAIK.

My girlfriend played Casual last nite and it seems like health drops from enemies more often and you take less damage (like 1 bar instead of 2).
Isn't an extended demo dropping this Thursday? :hyper
So is the demo simply called Bloodstained E3 Beta Backer Demo? I have a code for it, but I can't tell if it's the new one or the one from last year. LOL There's no date or anything. Haven't gotten an email yet or anything either.
E3 2018 demo keys are going out now. It's called "Beta Backer Demo" on Steam.(https://i.makeagif.com/media/12-19-2015/Tht66x.gif)
Yup, that should be it. I just redeemed mine. However, I also got an email update from Kickstarter and the Survey page had a "click to reveal" box for the code. It shouldn't already be revealed.
For this month's update, we have an incredible support who will be joining the Bloodstained team. Can you guess who? It's WayForward!:gladbron :obama :phil :hulk :ohyeah
That's right, WayForward, the makers of Shantae! As you may already know, they are top-tier when it comes to side-scrolling action games. There is even a staff member who previously worked on one of my projects, which is incredibly encouraging.
In consideration of their past achievements, WayForward will be helping the development team realize my vision for this game. Maybe I am even more excited than everyone else - with their help Bloodstained will become an even better game.
Wayforward helping is a good thing. Let 'em take their time with this so we can get a super-good 'vania.I sure hope so. I have full faith in WayForward. But yeah, let Iga take whatever time is necessary. This game is the glimmer of hope for ClassicVania goodness.
Shantae is pretty meh overall though
Wayforward hasn’t had an actual announced project since last year, so I wonder if they’ve been assisting in the background for a while now?

NOT EXPECTING IT
:stahp
I'm gonna play it on PCEven though I have a physical PS4 one locked in, I would much rather play a digital version. Not being too demanding of a game, I'm on the fence about whether getting the PS4 one or the PC version. the beta ran great on teh laptopz. Will the PC version have mods eventually? that could be the selling point.

The first batch went on sale earlier today and all limited "classic edition" copies (Vita/PS4/Switch) and the regular Vita version (of which they made 2,000) sold out in minutes. There's a second batch later today, at 6pm ET (~6 hours from now).
www.limitedrungames.com
Edit: I think this is going to become one of LRG's more valuable releases, people are paying twice the price or more on ebay already.
Yeah I just slept in instead of trying to order this. :-[ Vita edition has very few copies made cause Sony has very few blank cards left and are rationing them out. :doge
looks okay graphically now except for the biggest sin: making rooms for (non-stylized) kickstarter faces :nope :nopeThose are horrible. Not that it's not a great idea, but holy shit folks... hey everyone, we're aware of street date being broken
just FYI if you play before official launch date, you're going to be missing out on a LOT of stuff
ther's a very big day zero patch
that fixes a lot of stuff and implements a lot of other things that aren't in the build that's on disc with retailers
last I checked it was like 4-5 gb worth
considering the total game is somewhere around 20gb, I would recommend NOT playing the game if you get it from a place that broke street date
it's one store so far that we're aware of
day zero patch is day before launch
Getting packed up and shipped out right now! :hyper :hyper :hyper(https://media.tenor.com/images/59d07de52c96124ff9fecb2d190983e2/tenor.gif)

Backers get a fat holo foil slip case
(https://i.imgur.com/kaKjb97.jpg)
FAQ #13
Why is the disc $60?
The Kickstarter Edition of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night won't be sold at retail. It comes in an exclusive slipcase and it's preloaded with backer-exclusive content—the Swordwhip, the only weapon powerful enough to unite Teams Sword and Whip, and a super-secret boss who you'll have to foil to earn it.
Will there be a physical release of the game after it comes out?
There will indeed be a physical release of the game in the future. However, the Kickstarter-exclusive box set is a celebration for fans willing to support IGA in his time of need, so the retail version of the game will not contain any of the Kickstarter-exclusive bonus content.[which is true, and neither does the backer version, haha]
"The Slipcase in question is a four-sided hard stock paper, lined with
holographic designs that is placed on the outside of the physical game.
Thanks!"
So it's indeed a paper sleeve they are calling the "Slipcase" to get around the fact that it's not a slipcase.
Also the backer exclusive content is going to be available for everyone to purchase for $9.99. :doge There was a vote on it and most backers were cool with this, somebody on their team said it's a way of trying to dodge piracy since if it's not for sale at all people will just find ways to get it illicitly. Whatever, the game exists and I get to play it, hooray.
Also the huge lie of the survey "overwhelming majority approves" yes, 16.8% picked the path you took (making it available to anyone, just in the form of DLC), from a PUBLIC survey that was replied by under 27k persons (which is LESS than half of the total backers) where you have NO RELIABLE WAY to tell how many of them are backers, (but 78.9 told you on the survey they are, which brings the number of "possible" backers down to just 1/3 of the total backers). So you justify a decision you made and say it has "overwhelming support by the majority" when the most you could argue is that around 1 /3 of backers replied to that survey! So you are pretty darn good into telling yourself lies, but hey, don't expect everyone here to be apologists.
Looks like cardboard with a metallic sheen on it.
The past 4 years, I've heavily changed my lifestyle to the more minimalist way... A part of me is slightly regretting getting a physical copy now, because to be honest... I could give 2 shits for the physical stuff. I just want to play the game! I did the digital copy only backer of Shenmue 3, and you know what, I'm totally content with that. Life's funny.
kcikstarter really brings out the whiny toddlers, huh
Looks like cardboard with a metallic sheen on it.sell me that thing bro!

Sure, whenever I'm done with it. I only play on the weekends, so it may take some time for me to beat it first. :doge
Are you on PS4 Svejk? :)Yessiree
Apparently it comes with a tier higher than the $60 one. :yeshrug
I have no problem with others getting to play the content (it doesn't diminish my enjoyment), but that means it's not backer EXCLUSIVE. It's hilarious to claim this is to prevent piracy; it's about maximizing profits. And the special edition isn't special. They really cheaped out.We got Curse of the Moon for "free" and that is selling for $10, tada, $60! :doge Also as a PC backer I get to wait until after they've released all the DLC to get a physical version cause they want to put it all on the disc, they can't do this with the consoles due to certification stuffs. They're going to give us codes for now. Still less of a debacle than Shenmue III or say, Star Citizen. :lol
WTF. Retail price is $40. You can buy the backer non-exclusive content for $10.
So as a thank you for financing the game we paid $10 more ($60, plus shipping) and get a cardboard slipcase.
Nice how you can get a steelbook at Best Buy for $40, while $60 backers get a paper sleeve.Oh don't worry they're going to get a quantity of the steelbooks to SELL to the backers if they want them! :lol
kcikstarter really brings out the whiny toddlers, huh
Yeah like yourself obviously
IGA can just go ahead and take the Microsoft moneyhat for the sequel anyway.
At least he made a game you dolts.
Inafune fucked Capcom for a generation took everyone's money (including Microsoft's) and then fucked off into the sun. :lol
Any impressions out there yet?
Steady money until his next project is cancelled like Scalebound? Thanks but no thanks.
Reminder that Xbox is as dead as a door nail in the land of the rising sun. During an average week, LESS than 100 Xbones are sold there.
If anything he should make a deal with Sony, much better track record and a realistic chance to sell more than five copies in Japan.
kcikstarter really brings out the whiny toddlers, huh
Yeah like yourself obviously

Just because you don't agree with what one may find annoying, what is wrong with letting them complain if they feel like it? How is it impacting you at all?

On twitter, Fangamer told me that Steam keys will be provided on launch day through the backer management page at their site.:thinking
PC physical copies will ship after the free DLCs are launched later this year.
Throughout the day for codes.Codes are SUPPOSED to be all sent along today, people who are getting their physical PS4 and XBONE discs are finding they do NOT come with the slipcase because that is being sent via a separate mailer because doing that somehow enables them to get everything shipped internationally faster? A bit of a debacle here for launch time.

This feels like a mega beefy and incredibly well done SOTN sequel gameplay wise. In the first 20 minutes/4% map completion, I've gotten like six main weapons, ranged weapons with limited ammunition was introduced, spells, different armor/accessories immediately as well. Combat has a good omph to it. Soundtrack is catchy. Not too much time wasted for introducing gameplay mechanics.
Im very picky when it comes to this genre. SOTN being my favorite. I'd highly recommend this for any SOTN/Igavania fan.
Playing with the English dub, voice acting is great as well.
In the first 20 minutes/4% map completion, I've gotten like six main weapons, ranged weapons with limited ammunition was introduced, spells, different armor/accessories immediately as well.See, this is how it's done. Hollow Knight, although good in it's own way (?), You can play 5 hours, only to get 4% map completion, have the same 1 weapon and 1 look, and have like 2, maybe 3 abilities unlocked. :zzz
The reception to this after a well-documented rocky period early in development has been very uplifting.
Have fun, everybody!
My physical copy is still in "pre-shipment" according to USPS, and I also haven't received a download code (not listed on Fangamer's backer management website, either).
Looking at the comments section of the kickstarter, it sounds like tons of backers haven't received anything yet.
Fangamer sucks, there is no excuse for not at least having the codes available on or before launch day.

Not shitting on HK, it's just not an Igavania (and certainly not better)... then again, nothing is.
IGA/SOTN IS BACK!
Got a separate code the IGA's Backpack DLC, too.PS4 (US).Have fun, everybody!

What platform is your digital code?
Damn some shit like that would make you want to double dip.. but I can understand you are not made of money
I cant even afford this shit right now sadly :( will buy asap
Yes, it's been available for several hours.GoG and PS4 were the last sets of codes they were working on over the night. Oh hey backers will get the soundtrack, forgot about that. OST codes will be available after the Switch launch.
What do you mean "were working on"? They still haven't sent out the US PS4 codes.Wow that sucks.
Why would a modern sidescroller ever allow sub-60fps?
For that matter why isn't this 2D sprites
Really want this on switch for an upcoming trip, but sort of worried about a dog shit port. They’re saying 720P/30FPS which seems sort of bad.

It's good. It has branching paths, huge bosses and multiple characters to switch on the fly.

All the GBA Iga games are worth it but Aria's the best with Circle close behind it. The DS games are weird but I know they have fans.

What's the main differences between the DS and GBA games? Because at the time the impression I got was the DS games were the new hotness, especially Ecclesia.
How is Harmony of Despair? I see that is available for the 360 but I never played it, its bc too
Aria of Sorrow - finally a successor to SotN. Has the most interesting plot in a Castlevania game. Contender for favorite Metroidvania and overlooked because of its big brother Symphony.

It has its fans. It’s basically multiplayer Igavania. Sceneman is big on it. He’s the guy to go to about that.
I checked out on Igavania after of Order so I never bothered to play it beyond the demo.
Did they ever manage to get Kojima involved in Bloodstained?

I think Iga agrees with you (us) too. Didn't he say in an interview or something that if he could go back to castlevania and do 100% what he wanted he'd go back to this modern timeline and do another fight against dracula again properly or something like that. The main impression being he wanted to do another contemporary set CV.
I liked all the igavanias /shrug
Except the weird one with touch controls.

Circle of the Moon - the best and most well rounded Igavania not named Aria or Symphony
Harmony of Disspnance - poop
Aria of Sorrow - finally a successor to SotN. Has the most interesting plot in a Castlevania game. Contender for favorite Metroidvania and overlooked because of its big brother Symphony.
Dawn of Sorrow - I made a custom weapon in this and used it 3/4 the entire game. Horrible QA. Boring follow up to Aria besides Julius mode which rocks.
Portrait of Ruin - uses interesting JONATHON!!!! CHARLOTTE!!!!! gimmick, has more classic Castlevania-isms to it than previous games but is ultimately forgettable.
Order of Ecclesia - fun at first but gets boring quick. Never finished was done with Igavania and hoping he was kicked from Castlevania after it. He was.
Lament of Innocence was actually decently, tolerable. Arguably the best 3D CV. The controls were fast and responsive, music was beautiful, and I liked that it was the Belmont origin story. It certainly had its flaws transferring to 3d, but it could've turned out way worse... but wanted to give it a shout out.
Devil May Cry 1 still the best 3d Castlevania we've ever had. Bless up

You can parry right from the start with the Katana with F,F+X. I know this because I'm a weeb and any game that offers a Katana build I always go for that. It's doing good so far. The arc of the swing starts a little lower so you can hit grounded enemies like plants that you can't hit with a sword and otherwise it's just generally a sword with a parry and that.

Nice! The shield doesn't need any inputs though and feels a bit faster than the katana. I do miss that arc however. I started with the Gamesack sword, messed with the boots (rekkas!) and then switched to the katana before getting that shield. Lots of crazy weapons pop up for sale with an 8-bit coin.
Dawn of Sorrow is a pretty good follow-up to Aria that suffers from bad anime art and touch screen gimmicks.
We have been investigating a PS4/Xbox One issue that is blocking player progress in the game. We apologize for this bug and thank you for your patience while we investigate.
The issue occurs when a new game is started before downloading the 1.02 update. After the update, treasure chests will appear in the incorrect open/closed state.
Without the items from these chests, progress is blocked.
Players affected by this bug will be required to restart the game with a new save in order to properly progress.
We investigated a number of options to address this issue and each fix requires a new game to be started. Despite our efforts to provide a fix that preserves pre-1.02 progress, this is the best solution to avoid future issues.
Xbox One players will also be affected by this when the 1.02 patch is delivered next week. Switch players who have a physical copy should download the 1.02 patch before playing.

Once your patch gets past a certain point int he pipeline there's no going back :/ And you can't roll back.
Wait, progression is blocked behind RNG shard grinding and not mandatory boss power-ups? Why would you do that. That seems strangely bad design out of place.

Zangetsu was hard to defeat. Here's a way to win without 'git gud' if you happen to get stuck there.spoiler (click to show/hide)- Level a bit (easily done with some backtracking) until you are level 9 or 10 or so
- Backtrack a bit behind the safehouse. You'll find a farmer, hand him the Rice Seed
- Do the sidequests of the lady in the staircase near the Alchemist and the Shop. (She asks you to kill a certain demon type, after you've done it about 4 more of such quests show up. They are easy to find in the castle, for one of them return to the shit)
- One of these will net you 3 full healing items + Max HP boost and some other helpful items (hold on to these for now)
- After you get the healing item return to the farmer. He'll have your rice ready.
- Go to the Alchemist and craft the Rice Balls (2 of them)
- Eat one Rice Ball for an easy Max HP boost
- Take the other Riceball to the shop. At the end there's an old lady asking you for food
- Give her the Rice Ball, she'll give you the Thorned Whip
The Thorned Whip is the most effective weapon because it outranges Zangetsu's sword. Try to get behind him or stay in front of him.
If found that running from one edge to the other works best. Do note that Zangetsu has a dagger to throw as well but that only does minor damage.
Learn the jump attack cancel. This is pretty easy. Do an attack right before you land from a jump and once you land you can do another attack.
Do note that recovering from a Whip slash takes a bit long so only do one hit at a time if you fail the jump attack.
The fight has two stages. If you're low on Ether I would recommend to hold on to your magic until the second stage.
The second stage of the fight is the toughest, he'll have a flaming sword and more HP. Repeat the above steps in terms of fighting strategy but keep a bigger distance, especially from his jump attacks
which end with an explosion. Use your healing items wisely and Zangetsu is pacified. 8)
If you're more of an aggresive type you can also buy the 'Estee' in the shop, which is a stronger rapier. The rapier has the advantage of landing 3 hits before Zangetsu can do one hit.
However, this is only recommend if you've mastered the backstep.
As far as Shards go, I found the demon hound summon and shockwave very effective and the higher grade True Arrow. Mostly because the animations are quick.
Something like the Fire Canon takes too long to travel and the Tentacle thing is rather slow.[close]

Didn't realize that you can use the kung-fu shoes to essentially fly through the air and get to some hard-to-reach places!
Am at about 50% map completion now. Got the bad ending vs. Gebel- I love how the "true battle" is such a callback to SOTN's Dracula boss fight, lol.
Found the 8-Bit Nightmare level-- that's the only part of the game so far with actual hard-to-kill enemies, at least at my current levels.
I need this game :cry
Managed to make some more progress.spoiler (click to show/hide)It took me some time to figure out how to progress by getting on the train and the Speed Demon battle was pretty great.[close]
Having trouble with the vampire chick in the bloody bathtub. I whittle her down, she heals back all her health, and then by that time I die. I think I need to grind potions or food or something and just plow through. She just heals herself once, so consider her as having about twice her actual initial hp if you're using the item that lets you see that. I go into all the boss fights as loaded with potions as I can - it's $200 cheaper to make a Hi Potion than buy one since they're made of 4 regular which go for $200 each. I'd always just keep smashing the light right at the start of the alchemist's room in the village then exiting quickly to gather up the funds for that stuff if I'm lacking - there's other faster ways to get money but I never got around to setting them up.
My new favorite directional shard is the Heretical Grinder. Ranked it up to 7 and it is ruthless! Was doing about 7-8 hits per second doing 40 damage per hit. Thanks for the tip killed the boss I was stuck on with this very powerful weapon.
Played another 10% or so, got the upside down move, around 75% now, not sure where to go. The one place I thought I could now reach in like the entrance room of the castle is a passageway of spikes so I obviously need to fly to get past that. I went around cleaning up a bit and got the carpenters key though not sure which door uses it. Any tips of where to go next? Still never ran into Iga's 8-bit Nightmare area.
Still not really in love with this as a huge fan of Igavania.

And hey, it's not like I don't think the game is good. It's a good game that's worth the time and $$ and is way the fuck better than clock tower guy's Nightcry or from what I hear Inafune's Might No. 9. It's definitely up with the handful of kickstarters that actually delivered a solid good game in the style people wanted from it. If Iga makes another one I'll be there day 1 for the next as well.Having played Monster Boy this year too, I totally hear ya. MB was freakin' stellar, and tbh, would rank it even higher than BS. But both having actually come out and not fumble in their promise, I'm just so glad that these are still being developed with a lot of heart and effort. Damn it feels good to be a gamer. Lol
But 2019's been a great year for games already and this probably won't make my top 10. But that's fine, as long as games are good and I don't feel I wasted time playing them, then I'm glad I played them.
Yeah I still need to play Monster Boy.
So uh, I beat Zangetsu a billion forms and get the sword and I assumed since it's not a power up giving me access to new areas that I just needed to go fight Gebel now with this sword equipped and the true boss fight would happen after. But nope, just gave me bad ending. What do I do next?
Also I tried fighting the Master Carpenter and ughhhhh, I already am not a fan of the boss fighting combat in the game and in a tiny cramped room with his demon making fire pillars all over that is a pain in the ass. Guessing guys like that are just optional super bosses and since I don't like bosses here I'll just skip them.
Yeah I still need to play Monster Boy.

just looked it up. Oh, there aren't any other endings and the other playable characters aren't included and finished and will be dlc :| Didn't realize the game didn't ship complete. Guess I'm done until the DLCs all come out and there's some more stuff to do. Definitely interested in going through this with a Richter like character. There's three "endings" to be gotten in the current version of the game
Hello everyone! We're starting to plan some extra DLC content in addition to the 13 FREE DLCs that are currently on the way or in some cases already in game now.
Although the vast majority of the extra stuff we want to make is free, we also have to make some money to be able to do that lol. More moneyz = more tasty free DLC. :)
To that end, we're thinking of selling outfit / accessory packs, and we'd like to know what everyone would most like to see in the game!
That trailer is 2 months old, friend.Oh shit, it is. :lol Showed up on my YT page and I thought other wise. :doge

Has the Switch version been fixed? I never even unsealed my copy after reading what a mess it was. (Game breaking bugs, 30fps, 720p docked, while it runs at 60fps/4k on PS4 Pro, which is where I played it.)Still not yet, update end of the coming week so maybe they'll have an actual eta on it then.

Just got 100% map completion and I love this game. It's hard to explain why but it does feel closer to SotN than any other Castlevania. Maybe because castle exploration is the top priority again. You can spend a ton of time collecting, upgrading, and cooking, or you try to beat all the bosses without getting hit (I think when making the game they tested them all that way), but the real focus of the game is the exploring, and anything else you decide to do, or not to do, is your choice.

nah, this is one of a few weird Zelda 1-esque cryptic progression requirements.
Up to the boss of the Japanese garden area. Almost beat him (now that I got the Gauge Goggles I can finally judge how many HP they have remaining), will try again later.
My biggest complaint is the game's bosses are such HP sinks.
I agree the boss design is pretty spotty. The hit detection going both ways can feel jank AF (looking at you, Bloodless) - and it's likely all due to a bloated massive 3d engine managing stuff that was done better in the 90s with a fraction of the computational overhead. I get that assembling all the assets and stuff was probably easier using Unreal, but yeah. It's still a good game but the technical issues put such a dampener on it.
The Nintendo Switch Improvement update is live! We know it took a while to get this update to you and we are very appreciative of your patience.
There are four areas of improvement in version 1.03: Input Lag, Visual Quality, Crashes and Load Times.
First off, input lag has been eliminated throughout the game. You will find the controls more responsive, making the game easier to navigate and enemies easier to fight. There are still a few areas that need optimizing that will be included in update 1.04.
Visual quality has been improved so things look more clear and have more detail.
Overall stability has been improved throughout the game. We have addressed several specific situations that have been causing crashes, most notably when reading books from a bookcase.
Loading times have been reduced significantly, by up to 70% but there are still areas we'd like to improve. We will keep working to improve this on a room-by-room basis.
Even more improvements are coming in update 1.04, so keep an eye on the news for that announcement!
Is the switch still really that bad?Apparently it's way better but still has some problems. There's another patch for a few straggling issues that were a little more difficult to deal with incoming.
I have gamepass but wild rather play this one in bed.
Level 70, 99.8% map percentage, up to the save point before the final boss. Hopefully this is easy... ready to be done with it!

Also deadass how did you hit Level 70? I did everything in the game and only hit ~55 and everything was stupid easy to kill by that point lol
Can't use crafts, or items, do side quests, or anything... :-\
Yeah you get an RB power to zip straight up - similar to Soma's Hippogriff ability in his games. I'd wait until you get that before mopping up all the chests
Total sales for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has surpassed one million units, publisher 505 Games and developer ArtPlay announced.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlMe9PssWV4
A development roadmap highlighting the game’s lineup of free updates was also shared, which will start with the release of “Boss Revenge Mode” and “Chroma Wheel” for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions on June 23, and for the Switch version in July.
Here is the full roadmap:
June 23 (July for Switch)
Boss Revenge Mode – Players can thank the Kickstarter community for this new free gameplay mode in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night—a direct result of community support in helping the game surpass its final $5.5 million stretch funding goal. In this mode, accessible by entering the transition room in-game, players will face off against four in-game bosses fast and furiously to get the best clear time.
Chroma Wheel – The salon is back in business with more options than ever in color palette for character customization, including hair, clothing, and skin. Players can return to Todd the Barber, Bloodstained’s demonic scissor-wielding hair stylist, and switch up their look with a true color selector and eliminating pre-set options previously available.

I mean, that's cool and the gang but I wantSotNBloodstained 2. :doge
New characters in this, so they already planning for other "mainline" games too, surely. :nothotOh KS backers would literally nuke their offices in rage if they flat out bailed on doing everything, I think most of it is set to be done by the end of the year.
tbf, I wish they'd just drop DLC for RotN and get their all their resources straight to more new games. I don't need the main game whored out, I won't touch any of the extra stuff, probably even if I was planning a replay.
Aw co-op is local only, boo. I wanted to demon slay with bros again, haven't since the 360 days. CVHD is BC on X1 though...
how the f do you deal with the brown alchemist robots on characters other than Dominique???
game's great but frustrating, they really upped the platforming difficulty so far. I think I'm on stage 8 of chapter 1?
Getting to the end of the final episode turns the game intolmao wtf, I think I need this sooner rather than later.spoiler (click to show/hide)BLOODSTAINED....IN SPAAAAAACE!
First you play through a horizontal SHMUP level in your mecha/ship, then you get a new stage on the moon.[close]
Does only one player need to go through a door/opening to get to the next screen? If so, you could use being able to stand on top of each other to get into areas you normally wouldn't be able to access without certain character abilities.Yes. Can’t wait to see some 2P speedruns honestly.
:thinking
Inti Creates has released the version 1.3.0 update for Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2.
The version 1.3.0 update includes the following:
“Legend” style added – Enemies respawn from off-screen and one character dying counts as all characters dying in this extremely difficult style. Not recommended for first-time players.
Display bug fixed.
Various minor bugs fixed.
This motherfucker (https://bloodstainedritualofthenight.wiki.fextralife.com/Valefar). :beliHe was always easy though, just invert and slash away.
I thought the Blood Vampire was bad. Woof at this one. Apparently they patched him to be 9,999HP instead of whatever your amount was before he does the unavoidable attack. :lol :lol :lol :lol :doge

In any case, got 98% of the map completed so far. But these key rooms... Bosses in them in a tiny area. :doge The carptenter is giving me fits as they'll summon these huge monsters like 3 if you're not careful/fast while throwing projectiles at you.
I... might need to farm materials to boost all my shards. :doge
The Heretical Grinder shard will also take him out in seconds:

Pretty sure they nerfed some shards with the patches. Think that’s one of them.
Apparently the hidden items in walls doesn't account for the 100%. So I'm basically going around the map to reach 99.00%+ for nothing. :beli
At least I get HP/MP ups from this, but geez, this is really tedious. I forget if the eyeball that gives the hidden area shard is earlier than it was for me, but it was buried so deep into the underground that it is like "why bother?"
Bloodstained is leaving Game Pass, so I downloaded it and played it for a few hours yesterday. it's p. good

Fight through a series of randomized rooms to defeat demons and bosses.
Complete challenges before each boss to get powerful upgrades!
How long will you survive?
Versus Mode
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
“Versus Mode” is a special player-versus-player mode created just for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
At the beginning of the match, players will enter a room exclusive to the match battle. Wave after wave of demons will begin to attack both players. When you defeat the demons, you will gain souls. Souls can be spent at the central statue (shop) to upgrade your weapons, armor or items.
You will be able to purchase attacks that will negatively affect your opponent. Fill their room with fog, reverse their controls and more! The winner is the player that survives the longest.
“Versus Mode” supports local and online play with friends or matchmaking with other players on the same platform. Please note that Chaos and Versus Modes do not support cross-platform play.

■ Kickstarter Rewards
“Chaos Mode” and “Versus Mode” are the final stretch goals for the game. Once these two modes are completed we will begin to work on the final physical reward remaining to be delivered: the physical PC version of the game.
PC physical tier backers received a digital code to play the game when it was first released in June 2019, but they still need to receive their final physical reward.
If there are any backers whose addresses has changed since the original backing registration, you will have to update your address through Fangamer’s survey portal. Please check your current address. If no update is sent, the assumption will be the address has not changed and the item will be shipped to the address on file. We will make announcements on Kickstarter before that deadline occurs.
Except for the physical PC version of the game, all other rewards have been shipped. If you believe you are missing a reward, you can contact Fangamer via the reward survey linked above.
