Russia and a Turkey fighting each other is awesome and everyone should just let it slide and kick Turkey out of NATO.

Erdogan smiled as he announced 30k refugees would flood Greece.
Turks didn't like that he smiled and cracked jokes about his call with Trump.

Boris Johnson is asking the EU for a Canada-style trade deal but will consider whether to walk away from talks in June and prepare for an “orderly” exit from the transition period.

Setting out its negotiating mandate for EU talks, Downing Street said it wanted “regulatory freedom” from the EU and would not accept any role for the European court of justice (ECJ) in dispute resolution mechanisms.

To the surprise of no one (except for the timing, they slipped that in alongside a Corona virus emergency session), the French government is invoking article 49.3 for the controversial pensions reform. If you don't know already, article 49.3 basically forces a bill through as is and the only alternative is a vote of no confidence. 300 amendments have been included and supposedly some changes suggested in talks with unions (?) but basically it's fuck you with insufficient lube.

I guess that article about centrists being the ones most likely to dispense with democracy really was right.

It's been used 86 (well 87 now I guess) times since 1958, including 28 times by "Second Left" Socialist Rocard (in the span of 3 years) so it's not exactly new.

I guess the argument was that the opposition was flooding tens of thousands of amendments to obstruct, which is true, but it's doubly jarring since successive governments have decided to just ignore public demonstrations and protests.

It's basically an automatic, guaranteed whip to the majority and a cheat code against any gaming of the technicalities. It's hilarious overkill because the system is set up from the ground up to ensure solid, obedient majorities in the Assembly already. At the end of Hollande's term, when he was in the absolute pits popularity wise and with leftists in particular, a lot of Socialist MPs got loud and brazen but even then there was no chance of a vote of no confidence passing.

In today's random election news where benji discusses a country he barely knows the situation of but you might know less so trust him as if he's an expert.

Smer (the governing party most associated with Robert Fico) got beat in Slovakia. The "Ordinary People" (lol) who are sorta like christian democrats made a huge jump of 30+ seats (out of 150), the opposition in general seems to have won a majority. The "new parties" together gained like 25 points, although the new progressive/left party looks like it's short of getting any seats it was part of the "opposition" coalition in the campaign.

I did see a conservative American site tag it as a "Right defeats Socialists in Slovakia!" type election in a THIS MEANS TRUMP WINS OVER BERNIE sort of post. But it's more one of those Eastern European type situations where you have the "old" parties and the "new" parties, so there's a split more on "old corruption" and "new promises of anti-corruption" than ideological. I think the one coalition has the anti-Europe fascists, borderline libertarians and former communists now social democrats in it and the other has christian democrats, American-type progressives and pro-Europe neoneoliberals.

You're not wrong, but this one is probably true though.

someone shot him, that's not fake news
the Turks probably didn't shoot him leaving the country because why would they?
he was shot with rubber bullets, and this isn't the first recent accusation of Greeks using them (on their own citizens)
the Greek police are using teargas against the refugees, that's not fake news either.
teargas and rubber bullets does feel like quite an "iconic duo" when it comes to crowd control

Btw. that picture is 5 years old. :lol

I mean Turkey is now threatening with letting millions of refugees attempt crossing into EU, unless Europeans help them out in Syria. What are European countries supposed to do? The last bout of refugee crisis already fucked them up, a new one could doom them.

you could easily have gotten it from the swedish meps or msm because they all seem to think that this syrian dude was shot at the border today (of all days) instead of five years ago.

Erdogan send his Grey Wolves goons out to chase people from refugee areas towards the borders and released human traffickers from jail as he says he's going to flood Europe with millions of refugees.
Erdogan says he rejected a money offer from the EU. The EU says they didn't offer him anything and he just needs to uphold the deal.

The Pentagon has said they will not give air cover to Turkey in Idlib. Leaving them to fend from themselves with their drones, which even though they have some success against Assad's forces are shot down frequently with their own "rebels" mistaking them for Russian planes.

Greece and Turkey are moving closer to a shooting war with the Turkish coastguard trying to escort refugee boats past Greek patrols.
The Greeks are pissed and reinforcing both their naval and border forces.

It is only a matter of time before the next 'Syrian' plane hits one Erdo's convoys and the Russians offer help and safety for Turkish soldiers in the form of a covered retreat.

Seems like all Erdogan did is to make it harder for his smugglers and dealers to cross into Europe.  :lol

The Cassation Court, the highest judicial court in France, confirmed a ruling against Uber on behalf of one of its drivers (that they cut loose from the platform a few years ago) The court judges that working for Uber doesn't qualify as being an independant contractor and that the driver was in fact an employee with all the benefits and protections attached. The court judges that in almost every aspect the driver was a direct subordinate of Uber, "not constituting his own clients portfolio, not freely setting his prices, not choosing how to execute his assigned tasks". Apparently 150 drivers have a case going or threatened to do so in the past, according to Uber.

For the time being it means that any driver challenging Uber in courts to be requalified as an employee should win, which could collapse the whole Uber (& competitors & similar [food] deliveries platforms) business models.

Which is kind of the same, really. Uber prices are 80% of the appeal (there's something to be said for the plentiful availability against taxis).
Enough drivers doing it would also mean a not minor backlog of settlements (and maybe retroactive, overdue, social security-pension-assorted payroll contributions) and probably force stricter legislation on the issue.

Outcome:
Ceasefire
There will be a corridor for a safe retreat for the Turks
Turks and Russians will do joint patrols along the contested Syrian roads into Idlib
