Is it a typical janky Monster Hunter mess or is it actually playable this time? Not being able to play monster hunter well is a "you" problem, not a monster hunter problem
Do we know if stuff carries over to the full game?If it's like the iceborne demo, they might give a reward (item pack) for beating all the demo quests, but you won't be collecting loot. Typically these demos are so you can check out the new game mechanics/moves/monsters for fun. I'm really keen to fuck around with the new hammer stuff after watching a gaijinhunter video about it :-[
Since MH is kind of a grind game don't want to put more than an hour into the demo otherwise.

I'd rather not fight the controls/rather play something competently designed. Same reason I hate Red Dead 2Is it a typical janky Monster Hunter mess or is it actually playable this time? Not being able to play monster hunter well is a "you" problem, not a monster hunter problem
exactly, get gud lmao
Monster Hunter is the only competently designed game in it's genre :smug

The glorious BBQ Spit music makes its return! MH World did the theme dirty with a shortened medley but the biggest crime was the lack of 'SO TASTY!'.
And now it is back! :D
Game looks really great but the controls seem to be so complex. I had like no orientation in the battle. Is there a lock on mechanism? Player is also slooow. But for sure had a fascinating vibe from the 10 minutes I played. Looking forward to taking a deeper dive into the demo.
Ok, turned on switch and it downloaded. I think whatever the glitch issue is with my hardware it's that it's not showing download progress so the icon doesn't appear until the download is 100% finished and I can't see the download progress anywhere. Sucks but if it works, it works.
lol, game runs 756p docked / 540p portable. I thought this looked a lot less sharp than XX/GU which was 1080p/30fps docked, 720p portable. Port of a 3DS game and all that, but it looked fine.
Why do the keep trying to push visuals past what the system can do at 1080p/30fps. I guess they really figure Switch 2 will be out sooner than later and BC with these games.
Thinking I'll just wait for the PC release of Rise.

The game definitely benefits from using the mClassic. Am playing the demo at 720P docked and it's upscaling to a crisp, sharp 1080P beautifully. Will try at 1440P next.
Never took you for a graphics whore, bebps.

nah, I like GU. Which is an upscaled 3ds game.
I just think Rise is kinda ugly. Played the demo a few more times and it's just not for me. The additions to the formula aren't what I'm looking for in MH.
I'll give it a chance when the pc version is out, but this definitely just makes me look forward to World 2 in a few years.
Coming in at number one is the Long Sword - which was used by 19.1% of players. In second place was the Great Sword - used by 9.7% of players, and in third was the Hunting Horn - 9.6% of players went with this one.
I'm surprised so many people play Hunting Horn.On paper, hunting horn seems to be a "support" weapon, where you would sit back and buff the party, but playing your buff songs does a pretty hefty attack that does great damage and stun, so you might as well get in and brawl with monsters, at which point it becomes a weird hammer with interesting situational attacks, like uncle said, it's a good weapon that also happens to make everyone else's life easier too. Especially since iceborne it dishes out pretty respectable damage on it's own.
From what I gather, it's basically the MMO white mage/support role as opposed to damage dealing. Good for MP, boring for SP. I'd assume in a game like this people just want to deal as much damage as possible.
a team of all hunting horn users with different horns and thus different buffs, so you all constantly have high attack, high defense, earplugs, stamina buff, resistances, antidotehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ira7DwOKp5c&feature=emb_title

What about normal-ass 1080p HDTVs?
one thing I'm not looking forward to with rise is I expect it will be the western market's first taste of the traditional MH double dip, i.e. monster hunter rise G in a year with more monsters added
it was nice only getting the later improved version of the games for so long, knowing you got the definitive game
of course if they can do it as dlc that would be acceptable! just don't want to buy a majority same game again and start from nothing
Nah, probably just because the crappy gear they give you.
I mean you die in like 2 hits or something when I tried it. I swear with good gear like nothing does that even endgame in most MH games. So felt pretty bullshit to me.

Should I even bother getting Generations Ultimate with this one launching so soon?
I haven't 'started' MH at all really. I played World for like an hour or two on Gamepass last year just to try it out.

Solo MH will make you dislike MH.
My problem with multi is I've never felt particularly great at the game and I know high rank MH players have certain expectations of teammates, of which I am mostly (and deliberately) ignorant.
I tend to avoid multi in general tho, for generally the same reason. Much more carefree to go at your own pace and not worry if your DPS tanking strategy isn't optimal or whatever.
If I cart twice in single it's no big deal.
If I cart twice in multi I might as well kill myself, lol.
idk, all my experience playing World and GU was that no one cares.
I did run into one guy using a parser (that I know of) on the pc version that shit talked my GF's hunting horn DPS :doge
The Sandy Plains is an area first introduced in Monster Hunter 3, but remade in Monster Hunter Rise.
Capcom will release Monster Hunter Rise for PC in early 2022, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto confirmed in a new round of press interviews with outlets such as Fanbyte and GAME Watch.
The PC version is “still very much in development,” according to Tsujimoto. Further details will be announced when they are available.
The Switch version of Monster Hunter Rise will launch on March 26 worldwide.
a whole year? fucking Capcom :stahp
a whole year? fucking Capcom :stahp
If it was coming out around the same time, I'd just wait, but I'll get this on Switch. Plus knowing Capcom, an expansion or new version of the game will come out right when the vanilla version is released for PC. :doge
So is the main story in this single-player only? While MP is for guild missions or whatever they’re called?

That's how things were in classic MH but World changed things I think, you can share cutscenes and story missions maybe?

While Capcom has yet to give any official times, that gives us a window in which we can expect the demo to release. It’s likely to be somewhere between 4 pm PT/7 pm ET and 9 pm PT/ Midnight ET. That way, it ticks the boxes of releasing in the US on March 11 and Europe on March 12.
This is reviewing pretty favorably.
Nintendo fans are some thirsty ass folks I guess. :doge
Tried the demo for a hot second after all the crazy high reviews... Just made me want to go back and play MHW if anything.
Hard to justify full price for this atm.

I'm glad to hear World will continue to see player support. :)
It took me trying the demo about 3-4 times and watching a video tutorial on the Wirebug before I really settled into the mechanics. Between that mechanic and Doggo it's really fun to get around the map. Until I did that I wasn't having much fun and was too used to Generations Ultimate. Now I have 20 hours logged in the demo. :P
The new Rise-exclusive monsters all look impeccable to me. Almudron and Goss Harag in particular are already favorites of mine. And not to dick measure with monster counts, but vanilla World launched with only 31 large monsters while Rise is launching with 58+. On that alone, the full price is "justified." World is obviously a great game of course, but it's clear why this is reviewing so well.
:thinking I had it as 50 at first which is what I thought the final tally was, then got some bad Reddit info. :trumpsI only justify this line because as I've already dumped more $$$ on the Switch in 2 weeks than I have with the months of having a PS5... And all I've played on the Switch is about an hour's worth of demos and 2 hours of Zelda: LTTP. :doge I just struggle hard to find time for this thing.... Plus, I haven't fully completed MHW either, which I really would like to do prior. :-[
I still find the line "hard to justify full price" to be ridiculous on its face.

Does this thing unlock at midnight or tomorrow?
If this on Switch Pro and had World or better graphics and destruction...I would be!
I mean it's my understanding that's why MH blew up in the west with World. Because it was finally a Monster Hunter game with impressive graphics. I don't know if that will translate to Rise in the west.
12:15am update: still not unlocked :(
Bork, I watched the digital foundry review of mclassic and read some other reviews and doesn't seem for me.
You know, in terms of graphics I actually like this as a portable game. As a portable this is the best MH has ever looked and runs smooth.
Living up to expectations so far. :)
An hour in there's just so many tutorials, do this do that, make sure you eat, make sure you collect birds, make sure you do all these things before you go out and do anything fun. This and my OG Xbone being a weak piece of shit is why I couldn't get into World for so long. I started up the latest Rise demo a few days ago, started reading all the text, then turned it off. ::)
I remember why I can't get into these games.
In that first field tour mission, there's a monster walking around- are you supposed to be strong enough at the start to take it out? I tried several attempts and it kept getting me.
They should put in a veteran mode that disables the tutorial crap. You can pick the tutorials on the new mechanics from the mission list anyways.

How's everyone's Rise playing going?
I wasted my free day doing other things like sleep, so just gonna turn it on now. If I see any of you playing I'll try to join.

Skip Gathering Hub Quests - Once your Village Quest level is four stars, you’ll start receiving Special License Tests. Upon completing these fairly difficult quests, you’ll increase your Gathering Hub Quest level by 1 rank. So if you’re looking to bypass some of the earlier star levels in the hub, try waiting for these Special License Tests.
Pro Controller nowhere to be found :shaq2
You guys all trying to finish the content before the update drops at the end of the month?
So rating the new monsters (or ones that are so old I forgot them and think they're new now):
Baggi/Izuchi/Wroggi - ZZZZZ, waste of space. World introduced Kula-Yaku & Pukei Pukei who are great and they are here as the entry level small guys, so why did we need 3 more of these entry monsters? Should've just kept 1 + Kula-Yaku/Pukei and ditched the other two. I think Kula & Pukei really show how the monster design shone in World since they took base entry monsters and made them really memorable with Kula's rock holding stuff and Pukei's tongue stuff.
Aknosom - Good first real original monster. Could be more aggressive. An issue I have with like 95% of the new monsters is even in HR they don't feel enough of a threat. Then you have stuff like Magnamalo who is the total opposite. Hopefully G-rank brings a scary aggressive Aknosom. It's moveset is good and design is good.
Tetradon - Ok. The fat thing just feels like a more mobile Zamtrios. Other than the fat thing (which I've never seen anyone actually hit by) he's just a boring big monster to beat on. Another monster that needs a more aggressive version to be interesting to fight. Fingers crossed for G-rank.
Bishaten - Really interesting moveset, but never seen it really matter with the mechanics because in LR/HR he's just too easy. Could be one of the best monsters if they make him tougher in G-rank. His fruit throw mixups and ways you can knock him down are really interesting. Honestly he's the kind of monster that I think would work better in World 2 given his moveset is closer to the World type monsters. Hopefully he makes the roster for the next one.
Somnacath / Almudron - Putting these together because they feel like the same boss to me. Snake thing, just one uses sleep one uses mud slowdown. Kinda redundant and I think they could've just used one of these. I like Somnacath better because if people aren't using sleep resistance can get caught off guard. Almudron...add it to another monster where I've never seen anyone get hit by most of its attacks so I don't even know what it does other than sit around and let you beat on it. Maybe in G-rank Almudron will be tougher.
Rakna Kadachi - Not sure about this one. Only fought it once and while it did good damage and could stun, it was really slow and stood in place a lot as a big easy to hit monster. For my slow build this was an easy fight since it stood still and let me wail on it. I need to fight it more to see if I like it.
Goss Harag - Pretty cool endgame badass monster. It's almost aggressive enough on HR and the fact it can stun you pretty easily and then walk up to you and basically one shot you makes it dangerous. The sword arms and color changes are cool. It's just a bit slow. If they make a variant of Goss Harag with faster movement/attack speed...fuck, will be Magnamalo tier. Kinda hope they do.
Magnamalo - Best new monster by far, definitely the reason it's the cover monster. Really aggressive, cool looking, very dangerous. The hellblight is interesting. Though I think Rise makes a lot of status effects trivial since you can just wirebug and they go away. In other games you actually need to spend time healing the status debuff which leaves you open. But yeah, great fight. Any variants or G-Rank is gonna be brutal.
Elder Dragons x 2 - Terrible. World's 4 Elders trounce these two. I'll take the worst elder in World Kushala Doara over these guys any day.
Overall I think if Rise didn't have a lot of World's best monsters and classic returning monsters like Tobi-Kadachi, Pukei, Kula, Rajang, Diablos, etc... that Rise's monster list would be a lot weaker than World's was. World had like 4 Rathian variants, but Rise has stuff like Ludroth and Jyura and all the entry ones. But I think overall counting all the monsters in the game they're about even. We just need some good endgame monsters added. I'd like Teostra back. Hell if they bring back Gore Magala I'll take back anything bad I say about this game. That's probably my favorite fight in GU.
U got mh stories 2 as well Tasty?
U got mh stories 2 as well Tasty?
Nah. MH has a cool world I guess but I'm here for the gameplay, specifically the core gameplay loop and Great Sword combos. A new JRPG would have to do something pretty different to catch my interest (NEO) or be called Pokemon because I'm a fucking whore.

If you're down for turned based combat, I'd highly recommend it. It has a surprising amount of traditional MonHun stuff baked in despite it being somewhat simplified (like the armor being just one piece). The post-launch support has been decent too. I'm close to 200 hours already which is over double what I put into World lol.

Maybe I'll check it out. Flying seems fun and I'm pleasantly surprised how many core game elements are front and center.
But yeah that "monstie" thing... there a JP voice option? Lol.
