Joe Shishido passed away too.
Captain Joe
First time for me hearing about this man. Curious about a movie he starred in though: Branded to Kill
Any of you seen it yourself? Seems like many film people have a huge fondness for it.
Branded to Kill is not my favourite out of the Seijun Suzuki / Shishido collab though it's undeniably a cult film with some clout (Ghost Dog from Jarmusch lifted a couple of sequences and ideas from it). Lots of great visual ideas but it devolves into typical 60es manic lack of focus and love of deconstruction for the sake of it. It's the less straightforward of the lot.
Detective Bureau 2-3: Go to Hell Bastards!, Youth of the Beast, Gate of Flesh (all directed by S.Suzuki),
A Colt is my Passport (T.Nomura) are all great. He did two
Battle without honor or humanity directed by K.Fukusaku that I'm unsure I've seen or not but they are probably worth their while considering the director.
It's all crime / hitman / yakuza films, if it needed to be said.
Edit : Actually Gate of Flesh is more of a drama in the streetwalking world.
