I'm rooting for the heat mainly to piss off all the haters even though they have issues as a squad.

I also kinda have a soft spot for the Mavs. I want them to do well this post-season.

These playoffs are turning out just how I wanted.

Man, that game had some of the best layups.  Both teams were finding cutters, and Westbrook especially had some doozies.

I literally lolled when Mike Breen said with Dirk at the line, 'Nowitzki has been to the line 58 times in this series...he has missed two'.

Blistering. I like this Mavs team a lot - I've enjoyed every series they've been in, and damn near every game. I think they still have an uphill struggle to win it, though they would match up pretty well against Miami in quite a few areas. Bench scoring, interior D. Kidd should be fine against Bibby (and Kidd still has an amazing eye for the ball, and great hands. He's aging amazingly well). Marion is a decent option on LeBron. Overall, they stretch the floor far better than anyone the Heat has faced bar the Celtics, and covering their shooters definitely wore them down a bit. That's going to have to be Dallas' gameplan: try to get back at the 3pt line what they give up in transition, and hope Dirk can still score against Miami's D.

(Not totally counting out the Bulls, but it's a real long shot that they will come back - i'd say about 10%)

Heat have lost this one. I guess they can take consolation in the fact that Wade and Lebron both decided to have their worst games of the year in the same game which seems unlikely to happen in the next. And its a home game.

Yeah that was stunning. I haven't seen a late game collapse like that since...

Well the funny answer is last night but this just seems so much worse. Maybe because I consider the Thunder really young and I didn't expect them to win the series as much as I thought the bulls had a chance.

Cormacaroni was right and I was wrong. Heat dust the Bulls in 5. It was a closer series than 4-1 indicates but the Bulls just looked a lot worse than I thought they would on offense.

Derrick Rose finishes that series at 35%.

Wade didn't have a great offensive series either shooting 39%.

Feeling vindicated right now

Oh really?

Spurs, Mavs, Lakers, and possibly the Thunder in the West. Celtics, Heat, Bulls, and maybe the Magic and Hawks in the East.

So, that's six with a real chance and three more with an outside shot.

You seriously think the Thunder and Heat have a chance to win?

Lakers Celtics. Maybe the Bulls. Spurs will be run out by a faster/younger team, Mavs will choke, Dwight Howard will disappear for the Magic, etc.

:teehee

Unfair on my part, and you got the Spurs bang on, but too good to pass up.

Really would like to see the Mavs win from here, but worried that they might go down in a deceptively close 5 game series.  On the other hand, Miami seems like the sort of team JJ Barea was born to exploit, right?

Whatever happens, I don't wanna hear anyone blather on about whoever loses this series being a bunch of chokers and all that, unless they do something epically embarrassing like Webber calling a timeout that didn't exist in the NCAA tourney.

Miami seem like the kind of team Derrick Rose was born to exploit...as has been pounded home to me this playoffs, individual match-ups really don't matter much when the team defense is this strong.

I am rooting for the Mavs as well (LeBron WANTS us to hate him now, I swear), but I don't see them lasting more than 6 games. They will get 6 days of rest though, I think...that has to help. Who has home court? The Heat?

The Heat by a game.

Miami might have shut down Rose, but they could afford to load up on a single player.  Dallas almost has to score better than Chicago did, but the question is how much (and how many more points they're gonna give up).

Dirk is shooting great generally, but he isn't going to be setting any records against Miami. No-one is.

Peedee's trollin, trollin, trollin.

I'll admit, I am feeling a little smug about Rose cause I let myself read about a billion badly-argued columns explaining why he was the MVP (while his twin Russell Westbrook gets talked about as trade bait(!!!)) and I'm always down for a bit of pundit comeuppance.  But he's a great player and I'm psyched that I'll get to watch his career as it happens.

Damn this is a good time to be watching professional basketball.

I was pulling for Rose to get past LeBron a few times in the 4th, I admit. But you have to be realistic about it in the same way that you process say, Iverson losing to Shaq and Kobe. Was he great? Yes. Did he get beat? Yes. Could ANY one player have beat a fairly deep team with those two on it at that point? Probably not.

The Westbrook hatin' is typical Only-show-up-for-the-playoffs sports radio troll bait as well. Anyone who has watched Westbrook the past couple of years knows that his decision making is RADICALLY better than it used to be. He really didn't have a fucking clue about the position, or much of a shot. He has come a long way and he is clearly pointed in the right direction. You don't trade someone like that unless they want out.

I'll say Heat in 6 for the Finals.

The Mavericks do present some problems. They have knockdown 3 shooters on their rosters and Miami is very vulnerable to that with the type of defense they play. Dirk has been crazy hot and statistically the best player of these playoffs. And Shawn Marion seems to have found his game and his confidence which has been MIA the last few years. I think Rick Carlisle is a very good coach and leagues beyond Spoelstra. But they are also relatively weak on defense outside of chandler compared to what the Heat have faced.  I can't imagine Kidd being as effective as he was against them as he was with the Thunder. And I think the layoff should help Haslem and maybe Miller get a little more in form to help out.

But honestly it really comes down to Lebron and Wade. These two are just so good they erase a lot of deficiencies. I thought the Heat Index grades on ESPN after game 5 with the bulls hit the nail on the head.

Quote
Star Power
GRADE
A
The Heat were outplayed in nearly every facet. But that can cease to matter when you have two players capable of pouring in 17 points in just more than three and a half minutes. To put things bluntly, this is why the hype existed -- two players came together who are capable of putting a more complete team away on a moment's notice when nothing appears to be going their way.

Also

Quote
With Deng, Rose, Brewer, Thomas and Taj Gibson on the court, the Bulls had their defensive unit in place, seemingly poised with the 12-point cushion, to hold off a potential rally. And when James missed another rare free throw following the Heat timeout and Brewer followed with one of two foul shots to restore the lead to 12 with 3:14 left, the Bulls' lead still appeared safe.

In fact, after 10,000 simulations, Accuscore.com calculated that at that point, the Heat had just a 1 percent chance of winning the game.

I think what the Mavs did was impressive. Very impressive against the Thunder. I guess for me what it boils down to is it shows how specifically good those two players can be which is why they are a handful. They were both mostly having sub-par games for their standards. And then just those two by themselves were able to completely turn around a game with so little time. It really was jordan/pippenesque and I've pretty much refrained from using that comparison all season for lots of reasons. It's odd to say but the Mavs one was less impressive simply because they already play a more team oriented version of basketball especially on offense. When the Heat can do it with just two players and you know its coming but still can't stop it, that's why its special.

Looks like Miami has home court too...by one lousy game (58 to the Mavs' 57). Ouch.

I like the quotes at the beginning of the video. The thing is the Heat Hate just turned people absolutely stupid. You could make a 20 minute youtube video of all the dumb things people have said since the beginning of the year and how its turned out completely wrong for them. And none of them will admit it.

"I'd take Derrick Rose over Lebron" is just a really stupid thing to say. Not because Derrick Rose isn't a really good player. But Real Talk here. What GM isn't going to take the 250 to 270 pound,  6 foot 8, can dribble and play world class defense specimen that is Lebron over Rose. C'mon Bucher. Pull your head out of your ass.

I don't mind irrational heat hate. It's sports. People are allowed to be irrational. I just don't like it when people say completely stupid things or get proven completely wrong and then pretend they never said those stupid things. Especially if they are paid to be rational. It's like the Daily Show when Jon Stewart shows Fox News clips.
