The Heat are a better, more athletic, and more talented team. Players like Peja, Terry, and JJ can't be counted on to do shit in the Finals.

Bottom line: The Heat have three of the four best players in the series--and they're all in their primes. How the fuck did anyone pick the Mavs (I'm a Mavs fan, and I sure didn't)?

Congrats to the Mavs. The better team won. It can be analyzed in many different ways but it really just comes down to the better all around team winning. They usually do. People (myself included) suddenly seemed to forgot what we saw all throughout the season because of the Boston and Chicago series but that is the Heat. Those are the warts. Those are the problems they never really solved all season. It also doesn't help that the coach is way out of his league.

You could see the Heat's body language deteriorate towards the end there.  Wade dribbling it off his foot and then that wide open finger roll by Barea.  That's when it seemed like there was no coming back.

The team full of players rapidly moving out of their prime, who geared up for one last run at the rings they spent more than a decade and half or more not getting. They finally did it.

The turning point was in the  4th quarter when the Heat were within 4 (with 10 minutes left) and Barea hits a 3, Eddie House chucks up a three and misses, then in consecutive Heat possessions it went: Wade turnover, Chalmers missed 3, Haslem misses the tip, Wade turnover, Lebron miss, Wade miss.

Boom. 8 minutes to go and the Heat are down by 12.

ch1nchilla and I are thinking the same thing. This season was the fucking shit, best one I've seen in over 10 years of dedicated watching. It had the added bonus for me of being the season that the International League Pass really became a top-notch product. I can always find other ways to fill my time, but the thought of a lock-out is killing me. At least we're not staring down the barrel of a 3-4 year Heat dynasty though.

The finals were very impressive, and kind of changed my opinion on NBA basketball. I'll be paying more attention next season, whenever that is. Obviously I'm more concerned about the NFL lockout. I'm not too familiar with the NBA situation: is it as bad as the NFL owners/players dispute?

Once again a disappointing end to a NBA season.   Unlike last year, I've been refraining from posting in this thread because things have been going so well for the Heat and the Lakers finally got vanquished.  There've been lots of things I wanted to say but I didn't want to jinx it.  Too bad the Heat seems to have used up their luck by the end of game 3.  Everything has gone downhill since that game 4 collapse.

As much as I have always admired Dirk and even Terry, I've been an even bigger fan of Lebron.   Even though Lebron is going to get his eventually, this one has got to hurt since it was right there for the taking.  I hope Lebron won't get so jaded by the criticisms that he decideds to just not give a crap anymore, like Vince Carter.  I don't think I can bear being a fan of a 2nd Vince Carter career.

Still, congrats to Dallas and all their fans.  I'm also proud that J Kidd, the best player in the history of our alma matar, finally got his well deserved ring.  Best of all, we don't have hear anymore of PD's bs about Dirk's softness.

J.A. Adande's piece was good. All you need to know is that Jason Terry was an utter non-factor and that LeBron still produced. That's plenty. Also: Wade was clearly having some alpha male issues in that game.

I was gonna say don't fall for Adande's faint defense of Bron.   Whitlock and even Reilly wrote with much more substance and genuiance in their true defenses of Lebron, unlike Adande who was just stirring up the flames and setting up further angles to tear down the chosen one.  LA sportswriters, like all Kobe jockers, are only interested in Lebron's career because of how it would affect Kobe's legacy.  I watched game 4 with a bunch of Lakers fans and wanted to adminster a beatdown on most of them.  For the next couple of months,  I'm not even going to bother listening to the LA sports shows.  I already know that they'll be celebrating disgustingly like the Lakers have three peated.

I think Adande's piece was actually a good take on how everything LeBron does (or fails to do) gets hyper-scrutinized, especially in the wake of the Heat actually winning game 3.  Didn't think it was any sort of triple-head fake designed to pump up Kobe several columns down the road.

Looking back on the series, I have to say that Carlisle never once made me second-guess him with his substitutions. He even got good things out of Brian Cardinal! It may be a first for a coach to so consistently do the smart thing. This isn't just hindsight speaking - most of the time, even the best coaches will make you pull out your hair with moves like sticking Eddie House on a flaming hot Jason Terry or continuing to start Bibby long after putrefaction is visible from the 16th row. I can't remember Carlisle pulling an obvious boneheaded move once in these playoffs. And he obviously made a lot of other subtler moves as well - the tricks on the defensive end, in particular. Showing the zone, taking it away.

Once again a disappointing end to a NBA season.

Gotta agree. The Mavs kicking the lifeless corpse of the Heat for the past three games wasn't quite as exciting as I'd hoped it would be.

Just kidding. It was glorious.

LeBron's attitude at the post game conference was pretty telling. Wade genuinely seemed upset and disappointed in himself/the team whereas LeBron looked like some antsy kid, smirking and joking at what you'd think would be quite a serious time.

There was a time when people said Jordan was a selfish joke who'd never win, so LeBron has plenty of time to get his act together; although to be fair if LeBron did some of the stuff pre-champion Jordan did, he'd be crucified. He talked about working hard this summer on his individual game, but I wonder what that even means. Why not work on some post moves - hell, it will only take a couple weeks then he could teach Dwight Howard. Work with Wade and figure out how to play off the ball better; LeBron basically camped on the three point line throughout the finals.

Knocking Dwight Howard for not scoring in the post is soooo 2009.

Hur hur *derisive jacking off motion*.  Howard got himself a post game, an improvement so obvious even sports reporters couldn't miss it (and subsequently gave Hakeem all the credit).  The fancy patented stats from Synergy et al apparently back it up too.

Complex post moves are overrated and unnecessary when going against a physically inferior defender, which is and will be the case for Lebron 99% of the time.  When you're stronger and quicker than a post defender, all you need to is feign force in one direction then go the other way or just pick a side and explode in that direction.  The rate of success is ridicuolously high.  That was 1/2 of Shaq's pts before zone D got legalized.  Of course, this is only for 1 on 1 situations but Bron rarely takes advantage of those opportunities even when he gets them.

I think Lebron needs as many ways to score as possible and an actual real legit post game could only help. No one is saying he needs to turn into the the dream all of a sudden but being able to score with his back to the basket in a variety of ways could only help. If one thing has been proven by this series, it's that Lebron is not going to be able to be just a slasher like Kobe or Wade is if he wants to score when it counts. He is simply too big and too easy of a target despite being a good ballhandler for his size. He needs diversity in his game to be really successful against a team playing him smart like the Mavs were and he didn't have it.
