Expect a few more minutes for Collison tonight, as Brooks inches towards the inevitable benching of Perkins. Probably won't do that 'til they lose the lead though.

Otherwise I have no idea what to expect and I'm pumped!

27, 8 and 9 so far in the Finals and Westbrook is getting shit for a few bad shots :lol

Brooks talked again about the poor starts for OKC, but it looks like he's still starting Perkins. That one game where Perkins and Ibaka shot lights out against the Spurs is killing them now, 'cause it induced false confidence. I can see how it would be tough to try to bench a player like Perkins but come on, the plus-minus is startling. They can't keep ice skating uphill like this and hope to win.

I see your PT but it's usually bad for team morale to mess around with the rotation this late in the game.

what is the point of going big if they can't keep the Heat out of the paint? Now they have Fisher in with Perkins for worst of both worlds.

Personally I think the westbrook isn't a pg criticism is overrated. He is what he is. A shooting guard playing ostensibly the point for that team. It's odd to criticize a player for not being something we know he isn't.

Been thinking about that a bit lately. People talk about the dearth of shooting guards these days, and I think a lot of it is just how the positions have been redefined a bit. Saying there are only 5 types of basketball player is a patently absurd assertion, given all the different possible combinations of body type and skills. If the Thunder had a PG like Parker or Rondo, we'd be thinking of Westbrook as a Jordan-type player, not comparing him to the great PGs. But they don't, so he and Harden have to play that role.

He's still really f'in good at it, though. Bottom line is that he can break down any defense, and good things almost always come from that.

There is definitely a problem when the game is analyzed solely through the prism of 5 textbook basketball
positions.

Not that this is solely the answer. But the idea is correct. There are more than 5 positions.

I did see that, and it's been on my mind. But it made more sense to me in theory than the actual chart did. I don't know how it is supposed to help you build a winning team.

Yeah that part didn't really interest me as it seems more like a money making gimmick. I just like the idea of discussing players without necessarily always comparing them to the alpha prototype at their position.

Dearth of shooting guardings have to do with guys who should be playing SG being pushed into PG role due to size, ball handling or speed. Some of them are PGs like Tebow is a QB. I'd include Westbrook in that circle, along with Tyreke Evans. I do feel that at times Westbrook holds the Thunder back.

SG was never really that important a position until Jordan came along.  The lack of pass first PGs is more glaring, imo.  It's really odd to see so many starting PGs who don't even keep their heads up when they dribble.

Well, there is no point comparing the current situation to your platonic ideal of what the game should or needs to be....PGs these days are required to penetrate and score more than they are required to dish. The removal of the hand-check rule means PG now is just a different position than it was then.
