Like most I have a mixed impression on the Stern Era. There was a lot he did right and there was a lot he did wrong especially in the later years when he sort of became a vince mcmahon type character. On the balance overall he was a positive force I would say but there is certainly a lot to carp at him about.

It's gonna be weird watching the Mavericks opening game. Dirk is the only one of the Mavericks old guard left, and he's out for a few weeks. On top of that, Delonte West has been kicked off the team and Kaman is questionable. It's just gonna be a grab-bag of players out there.

WTF

That is kind of crazy. The Thunder got worse for right now. The draft picks may help in the long run, but I don't see them making a run this year now.

Also, Martin on the FThunder is lol

Serves OKC right for overpaying Ibaka and trading for Perk.

Also Houston is going to still suck.

Yeah.

This is what you get with the more punitive luxury tax.  With all OKC's main guys coming up for extensions, they were going to have to let one go, eat a huge penalty, or fill the rest of the roster with minimum contract guys.  They paid for Ibaka and Perkins and I guess this answers how much of a tax hit they'd be willing to take.

And for either money or basketball reasons, they didn't amnesty Perkins.  Sucks.

Well, they can still amnesty or trade Perkins. And they'll have a few decent chips to trade (picks mostly) and be under the luxury cap as well. Presti can do a lot with that.

It's just hard to imagine him doing something better than drafting one of the most efficient scorers in league history :(  They should have guaranteed Harden that he'd start and get all the touches he needed - backing up Thabo fucking Sefolosha must be hard to take.

It's just AARGH why does every fucking move made in the League have to play into the fucking Lakers' hands

If Perry Jones and Lamb end up as quality players, add in 2 more first rounders this year and they'll be a very deep team.

Still think they could have really made a splash 12 months ago by trading Westbrook for Paul. Can you imagine Durant with a point guard who can get him the ball?

Would have been sweet.

The Wojnarowski piece is kind of amazing. He has some crazy sources, 'cause no-one else even got a whiff of this story before he broke it. And he seemingly knew EVERYTHING.

Paranoid subplot: Harden's agent was pushing hard for a max deal even after being told that the alternative was an immediate trade to Houston (which of course helps the Lakers immediately, as everyone noted). His agent is....Rob Pelinka. His biggest client by far? Kobe Bean fucking Bryant

Probably didn't affect things at all, given that Harden himself surely wanted the max too, but still. I'm sure the agent could have spun it in the direction of waiting-and-seeing 'til trade deadline or next offseason....

I just don't understand the value they place on Perkins. I though he was awful during the finals last year and he isn't much of a regular season player either. That's the position I would just throw cheap bodies at instead.

There's a similar story from Brian Windhorst at ESPN, so I think this may be less a case of Woj having great sources and more a case of the Thunder trying to use the sports media to get out their side of the story.

I think it is wrongly applying the blackouts for US broadcasts. It has a graphic saying the Celts game is on TNT, while for the Wizards game it says 'NBA League Pass'.

So hopefully that's just some regioning glitch that will get sorted out. I have other options to watch of course. Awesome game so far. KG is sooooo salty about Ray Allen

Nah seriously. The offense is actually running plays beyond iso wade and lebron. Lebron and Wade were on the bench for awhile and the offense kept on clicking. That never happened in the past. They simply have more offensive minded players who know how to score now with them. Whatever I think about a player like Rashard Lewis, he knows how to score especially if the defense is loose with all that focus on the big two. And less Haslem and Joel Anthony.

Dallas actually looked pretty good tonight, which totally blows my mind when you consider that virtually none of these players have played together before this season and they're missing two of their top players [Dirk and Chris Caveman]. Craziness.

The 360 app continues to frustrate. All but one game is blacked out for me (normally I can see every game with League Pass) and when I try to watch the replay of that, it just sits at the 'Game has ended' screen. Can't rewind or start over. So as of yet I have yet to watch a second on it.

Even though the Lakers will coast to an easy 55 win season, I am sort of rooting for them to self-immolate at some point. The fanbase is just itching to get rid of Mike Brown and it will be funny to see it all go down.

Also ... Cavs best record in the league.  ;)

I'm basically convinced that there is something about all the attention that comes with being THE LAKERS that means that there will always be too fucking drama in that locker room for them to live up to their regular season potential. In the playoffs, people usually get over themselves a bit and become team players (other than Kobe of course)
