Am I tripping or can the Grizzles beat the Heat? I know they have to deal with the Spurs first which will be tough, but if they get to the finals it could be interesting. They seem like a good match up especially in the front court.

The conventional wisdom is that Miami matches up worse against the Grizz than other teams. Big Bodies which Miami doesn't have a lot of. A team that slows the game down. Good defenders in Tony Allen and Prince and the big bodies to clog the inside. From a Miami fan aspect I'm rooting for the Spurs to win the series even though as a basketball fan, I would prefer the Grizz to win.

Yeah Griz/Heat is what I'm hoping for.  Interesting contrast of styles.

However IIRC each time they've played each other the last few times the Heat have buried them.

edit: nope completely wrong :lol

That's my desired outcome.  Really, Pacers vs. either the Spurs/Griz would piss Stern off.

It's over. Good season and the Warriors can be proud of it.

Now on to the main course of Spurs versus Grizzlies.

New head honcho of the Kings.

Now to go fetch a bucket to collect all those Seattle tears on GAF.

Also, sad to see Warriors out of playoffs but they'll be back if Mark Jackson doesn't screw things up. Curious to see what happens with Jack. I know Warriors fans hate him, but he'll get a lot of offers.

I think out of the teams left, I root for the Grizz or Spurs. I like that the Grizz are a team of pieces that actually fit with a point guard that runs things and controls the flow. The Pacers are a team I'm kinda ambivalent about. The Heat bore me outside of fast breaks and fuck the Knicks.

she's gorgeous

Props to the Warriors.  They were probably the team I was rooting for the most outside of the Heat.  Fucking love Curry.  Wonder if he'll be as hot next year from the arc?

Regardless, they'll be back in the running again next year.  Same seed or similar seed no doubt, but with a vengeance.

Also fuck the knicks

Would like to see that Warriors team with a fully healthy Bogut all year, but what are the odds?

Congrats to the people of Sacramento for keeping their team, and congrats to the league on being rid of the Maloofs.  Also, I guess congrats to all current NBA owners, whose teams are apparently worth way more now than they were just a few years ago, thanks to the boom, the new CBA, and a continuing willingness of cities to foot most of the bill.

I'm still mildly gobsmacked at the bidding war for the Kings (which not only involved a record valuation, but basically bribes to the owners in the form of giving up shared revenue/promising a higher relocation fee).  The amount of money that the new owners took the city for is depressing, but not nearly as surprising.

What did the final deal look like?  I'm glad Sacramento got to keep the Kings.  It's a good fanbase and hopefully they can get shit going again.  Seattle will get their team one way or another.

The deal was to buy about 2/3rds of the team's stock, based on an overall valuation of $635, which is highest ever in league history.  The Grizzlies sold last fall for $377 million, and Prokhorov paid ~$420 million for 80% of the Nets and half of the Brooklyn arena, once you factored in debt he was covering, and the Hornets went for about $330 million.

Also, the Sacramento group promised not to take revenue-sharing money from the league, which is a pretty big deal.  The city is paying a quarter of a billion dollars towards construction of the new arena, along with giving them billboard and parking rights.  The city claims the money will be paid back with extra revenues from having the new stadium, but after looking at a watchdog report on it, ehhhhhhhhhhhh.  In any case, huge gobs of money being thrown around.

Just to highlight how much The Maloofs made off of their own mess, they gained ownership of the Kings at a valuation of 156 million dollars back in 1999. After running the franchise into the ground, they turn it at a valuation of 535 million. This is based on a valuation of 525 million inflated by the idea that the team was movable and by HBN's deep pockets. Then they got another 10 million out of Renadive just to speed up the process and get rid of the Maloofs. Reportedly, after paying back all their loans, they will have made 200 million.

Whether the garage bond is a quagmire or not depends on how much the associated investors and developers actually build around the arena. It's not just making money off the arena, but the 'promises' of development around the area. Getting the NCAA tournament back and having a place for big touring artists will help some as well, but I think this is just pork to get investors into the downtown area. Such a practice is not new for Sac government.

I think the promise of no revenue sharing is something that's going to be standard now for any new owner. Both Seattle and Sacramento pledged this so I expect the BOG will want to hear it before approving anyone from now on.

The Phil Jackson stuff is pretty funny.  I mean he didn't need to say it because nobody outside of LA thought otherwise, but it's definitely a big ol' fuck you to Kobe.  I wonder what Phil had to say about Shaq?  I mean if Shaq was a better free throw shooter he would be the best ever.

Kobe's response really shows that he just doesn't get it. Jackson wasn't talking about individual stats, which is what Kobe seemingly focuses on with his Shaq obsession. Yes Shaq was the best player in the league during those championship years, and was the team's leader...but that didn't excuse Kobe from being an arrogant child. Shaq is my favorite NBA player ever but I won't deny he was an arrogant child too, but at the end of the day he was the most dominant player in the league: Kobe should have recognized that, and done his job. I see no reason why the Lakers couldn't have won four or five championships if Kobe wasn't such a child.

On one hand you can't fault Kobe too much for failing with guys like Smush Parker in those early After Shaq years. But at the same time, his inability to trust his teammates - especially this season - helped ruin the team.

I feel a little sorry for Carmelo. He's going to waste the prime years of his career playing with Amare for the next two years.

Amare makes 21 million next year and 23 million the year after that.

There is talk out there that Dwight is interested in joining the Rockets. You know how I know that's a lie. Because it makes sense. And Dwight doesn't do anything that makes sense. So I know immediately he is resigning with the Lakers.

I'm back to kind of hoping the Spurs win the series. And its not just because I think the Heat matchup better with them. It's just the basketball poet in me.

I'd like the see the Spurs big three get one more chance. I'd like to see the evolution of Lebron in this series reflecting what happened when he played the Spurs in the finals before. I like the thing that happened earlier this year with Pop pulling his guys adding some fuel to the fire. I like seeing Pop in a finals period and seeing what he'll say. And I like that both the Spurs and Heat are both offensive teams but go about it in pretty different ways.

Also, Spurs vs Heat finals is lose-lose situation for Kobe fans.  There's already a bunch of people talking on LA sports radio about how they hate both teams.

A 5th ring for Duncan would probably do more damage to Kobe's legacy than Lebron winning a 2nd.  Duncan played in the same era,   has always been #1 for the Spurs and won more individual accolades.  There is already enough evidence that Duncan was the better player but a 5th championship would seal the deal.

I honestly never watched the Clippers enough to form a truly intelligent opinion on the job he was doing. The basketball media hates him and there was talk that Chris Paul wasn't a fan so unless he got pretty far in the playoffs he was going to be the sacrificial lamb.
