Why have there been so many white players like Zeller who tested great at the NBA combine but aren't exceptionally athletic on the court?

Do black players just not take the combine seriously?

Zeller had a good season and played on one of the best teams, it's natural he's going to get lots of attention. But I don't understand how people can fall for the same "tall white guy who can't create his own shot, can't play in the paint" gimmick again and again. To be fair there are a lot of black guys like that too, but it seems like there's always some dude who is sooo intelligent, so clutch, sooo...intelligent  :dickiev

Some of the combine measures don't necessarily translate great to on-court athleticism.  Recording a great standing vertical where you have all the time to gather yourself and all the space you need doesn't mean you're going to be able to elevate well two or three times from a scrum under the basket as you fight for a rebound.

True

Maybe they should do athletic tests that correlate better to game situations, like 3-5 quick jumps in a row and get the average of those jumps, or test jumps with weight vests to stimulate physical contact.

It's definitely an area where I'm baffled that the NBA doesn't just copy what the NFL does with its combine and work outs. Just come up with bball equalivents of the position drills/competitions.

I'm happy for the Spurs. I thought there team was excellent last year but they just fell short. This is essentially the exact same team.

Heat Spurs would be really fun and I think a very potentially close series.

If Chris Hansen had been able to buy the Sacramento Kings and relocate the team to Seattle, then Phil Jackson was going to have a prominent role in the organization.

During an interview on the Dan Patrick Show on Tuesday morning, the NBA coaching legend with 11 championships said he had conversations with Hansen about returning basketball.

“I had an agreement with the guy that put the deal together for Seattle Chris Hansen,” Jackson said. “I thought he was dynamic. I thought he had great ideas. He went through the whole process of getting an arena. He did everything right except win the franchise.

“But his vision I could buy into. I thought he had the right vision for a team. And he made basically the offer of take what you want to take as a job. As a consultant? If you want to be an owner, be a part owner.  Be a consultant? Work in the basketball operations side if you want to or coach. It didn’t matter to him. We talked about a number of things.”

Yawn...griz versus spurs is nap inducing. It's like watching the post dominique hawks vs the late 90's pistons (but with a subdued attitude)...

Let's watch the Cav's pass on Mclemore for Noel and then watch me piss on the Q.

This just screams Bowie over Jordan part 2.

Hell of a game. Lots of ways to look at it. Despite the loss the Pacers have to be encouraged they played the Heat essentially to a tie on the road. It took a miracle three to get them into OT but then they kinda had the game won until Vogel got too cute for his own good.

So its clear they can play the Heat evenly and create a lot of problems on defense. And except for that turnover George played really well down the stretch. Gonna be a good series.

George was amazing in the 2nd half and OT

Kid has legit superstar potential.  When George's shot is on, his size and athleticism make him a much tougher opponent for Lebron than Melo ever was.

Dwight Howard Interested In Ruining Rockets

LOS ANGELES—Ahead of his impending free agency, Lakers center Dwight Howard told reporters Thursday that he is “very interested” in moving to Houston and completely ruining the Rockets. “They have a great young core of players with James Harden and Jeremy Lin, so I’d obviously love the chance to go shatter their chemistry and tear the entire locker room apart,” said Howard, adding that he would “relish the opportunity” to totally undermine Rockets head coach Kevin McHale. “There are a few teams on my radar right now. Dallas has a really solid roster too, and I’m definitely intrigued by the prospect of clashing with Dirk Nowitzki and running that whole franchise into the ground. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.” Howard did stress to reporters, however, that he has not yet ruled out remaining in Los Angeles to continue destroying the Lakers for the foreseeable future.

For players in the 15 mins/game range, he's the best player.  Not being adjusted for minutes played is one of PER's biggest weaknesses.  For example, win shares do a better job of showing how much a player has contributed to his team's record.

Btw, I'm not the biggest fans of PER.  It's not bad but it tends to reward players who take many shots.

Miami hasn't quite looked like how they were earlier this season for most of these playoffs. The ball hasn't moved as well as it did when I've seen them at their best. Obviously part of that is playing against higher caliber defenses but still its a problem.

Indy could easily be up 2-0 and has played Miami exactly even over two games. And its not like Lebron had a bad night or anything. They are matching them which is a little worrying. Next game is biggest NBA game of the season. If Indy wins. Uh oh.
