The NHL system seems to work fairly well, in terms of getting calls right and not taking forever.  Some refs might not be happy with ceding authority to someone hundreds of miles away, but I'd really like the NBA to at least look at it.

Yep. I think the NBA will also go to some command center style ref headquarter overview situation eventually. Or at least have people on site who's job it is to solely man a replay system.

The NBA doing these "we apologize we got the call wrong" mea culpa's a day later doesn't help anybody and only draws attention to the flawed replay system.

It's lose-lose for them in terms of how to handle it publicly after the fact, but I like that they release those statements.  It's better than pretending that there were no problems, and it's a good opportunity for clarifying refereeing rules and procedures, for the public and for the officials.

Should have been a foul on Barnes. Paul didn't foul Westbroke from what I saw.

LOL @ Paul's big mistakes at the end of the game doe

I don't quite get it either. I think he is a smart man but yeah without a track record, I don't understand the bidding war for him.

Miami defense is shit again tonight. And the offense is a lot of everybody standing around and watching Lebron or Wade with the ball.

Knows the triangle well, smart dude, good analysis, and knows how Phil operates.  It made sense.  Now you get Mike Brown.

Miami being Miami. Play average to slightly below average for most of the game. Play really well/exceptional the last 4 minutes.

That pretty much defines the big 3 era.

Well, actually:

Quote
Rule 8 Section II - c of the NBA rulebook states:

If a player has his hand in contact with the ball and an opponent hits the hand causing the ball to go out-of-bounds, the team whose player had his hand on the ball will retain possession.

So actually the right call, no foul and all.

GSW gave him 5 million a year. So you know the Knicks would've overpaid him by a lot more. No, that does not make sense for a first time coach.

Despite all the drama the Pacers are right where they want to be. 7 game series versus the Heat. They have the home court advantage. And they match up extremely well.

Will be really interesting. I give them a hell of a chance of making the finals.

No, Stoney.  Let's stop pretending the Pacers will be able to beat the Heat.  Heat just beat the best team record wise in the East since January in five games.  The Heat may be flawed but they step up.  The Pacers are shook and look legit awful. Heat in 5.  If it goes to seven games I will ice my dick for an entire day.

I'll be highly shocked if the Heat beat the Pacers in 5. The evidence doesn't suggest that is likely. I expect 6 or 7 whoever wins.

I think the Wiz need a better coach. I was legit impressed with them in this post-season. But their offense just goes stretches where they seem lost. And they seem to be too talented for that to be the case.

The conference finals expose the truth of the regular season grind it is.

We all knew the Thunder, the Heat, The Spurs, and the Pacers were the 4 best teams by a good distance at the beginning of the year. It just took us this long for it to mean anything.

Not sure about the Spurs versus the Thunder. On one hand the Spurs look so fucking good at the moment. But then Westbrook and Durant are just so good.

I think the Thunder will overcome the Spurs. I think the first game of the Heat/Pacers may tell the tale of that story. The Heat don't have to win it. But they better  play"right". Imo they did not play "right" versus the Nets no matter what the series count was. I don't think they will be able to win the series versus the Pacers by just playing the last 4 minutes of the game well.

It's very hard to not imagine some mix of Lebron James, and Durant heavily in the mix for the next 3 or 4 years at minimum. The Spurs seem to have a death grip on great play until maybe Duncan goes. Even the Pacers are setup pretty well for the next few year outside of David West.

I think essentially a few players have a Jordan type grip on the NBA until their past their prime.

I don't follow it closely, but aren't most people predicting Westbrook to jump ship soon? I would think that would upset the power structure in the West immediately.

Durant is great, but I don't think having him + 4 other guys is an automatic pass to the Finals.

edit: nm he's signed through 2017

Quote from: ESPN Insider
LeBron leads all playoff players in PER at better than 32. Of course he does. Among starters he also leads the postseason in true shooting percentage, a staggering 67.8 percent, especially impressive considering he's the top target for every defensive scheme.

Amazingly though, his leadership skills are equal to his incredible statistics. LeBron is the man who sets the tone for Miami each night, perhaps the biggest difference between him and Kevin Durant. It's LeBron who takes on the toughest defensive challenges when pressed to disrupt the opponent's rhythm.

He's the guy who is most honest with himself, even admitting he was getting "torched" by Joe Johnson in Game 5 before accepting the challenge to stifle Johnson down the stretch and end the series. His poise under pressure and his willingness to make the right basketball play, rather than just settle for his own best shot, has the Heat advancing despite having to play a team that beat them in all four regular-season meetings.

The last game he played was on 4/16. The reg season finale.

The last game before that was on 3/26.

I think he is probably as "healthy" as he is ever going to get. He's just not capable of playing basketball  for anything close to even bench player minutes anymore.
