Rondo-to-Mavs deal nearly finished

The Boston Celtics are in the process of finalizing a deal to send Rajon Rondo to the Dallas Mavericks, according to league sources.

Sources tell ESPN.com that the Celtics and the Mavericks have an agreement in principle to send the All-Star point guard to Dallas for Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, Jameer Nelson and a future first- and second-round draft pick.

The possibility exists that other players will be added to the final deal, but Rondo to the Mavericks is expected to be completed by the end of the night.

A source indicated that a "deal is on course to happen tonight."

Rondo would join Dirk Nowitzki, Monta Ellis, Tyson Chandler and Chandler Parsons in a high-octane starting five.

Rondo is in the final year of his contract. Rondo has left little doubt in recent months that he intends to test the market as a free agent in July. However, sources say Dallas, amid growing concern about its point guard play and sensing the opportunity to acquire a topflight player it has coveted for some time, is confident it could win over Rondo for the long term.

Boston has the necessary trade exceptions to absorb all the salaries from Dallas while potentially generating a valuable $12.9 million trade exception (Rondo's 2014-15 salary) to help with future roster construction.

The Celtics were at the roster maximum of 15 before the trade and will need to part with additional bodies to absorb three players from Dallas.

The Mavericks were one of several teams to express interest in Rondo. The Celtics also had talked to teams such as the Sacramento Kings, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets about a potential deal, according to sources.

Rondo is averaging 8.3 points and 10.8 assists this season, his ninth in the league.

Welp, now there are a ton of teams that scare me against the Cavs

1) Spurs
2) Thunder (Pending KD, poor guy)
3) Mavs
4) Grizzlies
5) GS
6) Chicago
7) Atlanta (don't sleep on them)
8) Portland
9) Fuuuuuucccccckkkkkkkkk'

I got a bad feeling about this season unless we pick up a decent C and Corey Brewer.

If only Kobe could say the same.

Every Lakers game, I find myself shocked that he just continues to shoot 30%. Every 6-22 night, I'm thinking "He's gonna pick it up soon and get back above 40% at least." But I'm coming around to the idea that this is just how things are going to play out. Dude's going to be a ball-hog who shoots under 40% for the next year and a half. At least when he was a ball-hog with a decent TS%, we could win games with his "heroics". In 2014, nope.

I got him as my utility on draftkings tonight. I hope he shoots it 45 goddamn times.

I like this trade for Dallas. They lose some depth, but they finally get a point guard. They were a good team without one, but the West is just so stacked, they were never going to be able to seriously compete. They still may not be able to, but I think it's worth taking a shot.

Rajon is a full on beast when he gives a fuck. Losing their backup C is going to hurt the mavs in the short term but I fear a fully motivated rondo.

Here's my draft kings squad for tonight, opinions welcome (50k salary cap)

Mike Conley-PG    Total beast this year  $8,100
Manu Ginobili-SG  Handling the ball while parker is out  $5,000
LeBron James-SF  Coming off a bad loss and he is PISSED 60+FP's on way $11,400
Nerlens Noel-PF  Starting and starting to produce  also needed a cheap option  $5,200
Kelly olynyk-C  Been beasting last 10 games. Probably will get more opportunities to shoot now  $4,900
Phil Pressey-G  Smart is hurting, Rondo gone, hoping for a cheap 20fp's   $3,000
Mike Miller-F    starting tonight, Lebron will hook his buddy up   $3,000
Kobe Bryant-Util  No negative points for shooting percentage $9,400

I think he's going to start for now. Marion will be in with waiters and thompson....and delly on the second unit. Hoping boston is gonna flip that C they got in the Rondo deal with Green for Waiters and Heywoods expiring deal.

I'm starting to lean towards keeping Waiters, honestly.  He's annoying and a chucker, but he's still in their top five in scoring, and I honestly don't know who would replace him...Miller, maybe?  I'm not sure.  The Cavs need deep scoring, they can't always have the big three score more than 20 each to win their games.

True but consider green is putting up almost 20 a game for Boston and Wright is a legit 5.

Hybrid lineup would be

Bron PG
Irving SG
Green SF
Love PF
Varefo C

and that bench could score and play defense enough to contend.

This is pure conjecture on my part tho.

tank the season.

With Heywoods expiring and rondo delt they can throw money at a big name free agent and have a shot at Okafor. Heywood gives then enough alone with their current cap to max a guy or sign two tier A free agents.

Kobe tonight. 25 points. 8 of 30 from the field. He is shooting 37% for the year.

This whole thing is just becoming deeply and truly embarrassing. He is end of career Allen Iverson at this point.

edit: I take that back. Looking at Iverson's career stats, even he didn't shoot this bad at the end.
