History doesn't work that way. No one takes away the Rockets titles because MJ was gone and no one takes away Buffalo's four straight SB appearances because the AFC was garbage.

As long as Kyrie is healthy, the Cavs have a shot to win.

If they do win, you would have to say those mid-season trades were some of the most impactful ever? Not a big NBA historian, but I can't recall any off hand that gave swung a teams fortunes do dramatically.

Pau Gasol trade was pretty big as I remember but yeah it was the trade and Lebron being able to play like Lebron that turned things around.

I'm really curious how all this impacts Love. He keeps saying he wants to be back but every single leak says he wants to leave. I can't really get a grasp on whether he wants to contribute to this situation or be the man somewhere else.

From what I understand, it makes more sense for Love to come back next season and then really cash in in 2016 as teams get more money to spend on FAs. So, that probably explains the "I want to be back" but not really stuff.

Yeah, unless he definitely wants out because fuck Cleveland, he should punt and not opt-out. Especially if the Cavaliers are a contender and he can be a key contributor on another Finals run. That erases all the lack of playoff experience magically. And if they win a title?

Then he can sign with Durant and Rondo in LA.

Makes sense. I just have a feeling that if he signs a contract with a 1 year option, it's so obvious that that's all anyone is going to talk about. Lebron can get away with it because he's Lebron. But maybe every one already realizes what's going on and would be fine with it.

But yeah just playing out his current contract is probably the smart short term move.

Shaq just threatened to punch Charles Barkley in his face.

 :mindblown

In his defense, I'm sure he would say he was joking but all you had to do was hear him and know it was his petulant childish side lashing out like always. Get him the fuck outta there.

Anyway Charles picked the Cavs over the Warriors just now. I don't agree. But at least if the Warriors win, I no longer have to hear this crap about a jump shooting team can't win a title. (Despite all the jump shots the Spurs hit last year)

Warriors in 6, but really really close games.

Love will be back for one more season.  Let Kobe retire, then explore the Lakers in FA.  Lakers trade a couple picks and Lin/Young for Westbrook in 2016, that means they'll have:

Westbrook
Clarkson
Love
Randle
Okafor

Ain't bad for rebuilding

Karma alone now guarantees Cavs in 6 because Walrus hasn't called anything right all playoffs long.

So looking ahead to 2016, finals win or not, the Cavs have some decisions to make.

Tristan: No brainer. Lebron's company is his agency. He'll get a large deal (Bet he gives a hometown discount though so probably a few mil below max) I'm thinking 4 years 52 million

Andy: He's gonna have to walk because he takes a very large hit salary and is damaged goods or not you just know Atlanta will give him 8+ million and extend him.

JR Smith: He'll opt in

Love: The tough one...I don't think he'll opt in and I'm not sure I'd max him if LMA is serious about coming to the Cavs

Shumpert: No brainer, find a way

Mozgov: See above

Delle: See above above

Man there are going to be a lot of moving parts this off season

Yes they are going to trade him for a backup PG or possibly a 3 to replace Miller/Marion . They can't keep two guys doing the same thing now that they have Mozgov who is clearly a much better defender than both.

Ah, I worded that wrong. Will correct.

It's just odd to present it as something gleaned from your connections, is all.  I know a guy who does some business with the Redskins, who keeps sharing "inside info" a day after it's on PTI.  When this gets pointed out to him, he says "Yeah, but I knew about it for weeks!"

Anyways, the new TV deal is going to jack up revenues by a ton, and the value of the Cavs franchise is probably three times what he paid for it a decade ago.  He might choose to avoid the luxury tax, especially with all the new provisions making it harder to acquire players, but I don't think he'd be forced into lower spending unless his other business prospects are really dire.

Not only that, but he's the only guy who knows the "Lebron effect" on his tertiary businesses related to Cavaliers basketball. He's owned the team with and without him. Those  financial benefits of keeping Lebron a Cav could outweigh whatever luxury tax he would have to endure in keeping Lebron happy.

Oh I'm not that guy. Hell when I was playing I was the last to know. My family use to ask me all the time about free agents and shit and my customary answer was "just let me know if it's a secondary dude." And that was in the mid 90's. With the media blurring more and more with the internet I guarantee you that there are guys who know more about what's happening with the Browns that never played a down of football than the players.

I just spend a lot of time with the Cavs/Quicken loans guys at a higher level and as per normal life, some of them love to talk.

As for the salary cap increase, I wonder how the owner will collaborate on how to minimize the impact. The players have spoken but their union is about as weak as ours was. We should all be taking lessons from the baseball guys.

Chicago Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said, “The Chicago Bulls have a history of achieving great success on and off the court. These accomplishments have been possible because of an organizational culture where input from all parts of the organization has been welcomed and valued, there has been a willingness to participate in a free flow of information, and there have been clear and consistent goals. While the head of each department of the organization must be free to make final decisions regarding his department, there must be free and open interdepartmental discussion and consideration of everyone's ideas and opinions. These internal discussions must not be considered an invasion of turf, and must remain private. Teams that consistently perform at the highest levels are able to come together and be unified across the organization-staff, players, coaches, management and ownership. When everyone is on the same page, trust develops and teams can grow and succeed together. Unfortunately, there has been a departure from this culture. To ensure that the Chicago Bulls can continue to grow and succeed, we have decided that a change in the head coaching position is required. Days like today are difficult, but necessary for us to achieve our goals and fulfill our commitments to our fans. I appreciate the contributions that Tom Thibodeau made to the Bulls organization. I have always respected his love of the game and wish him well in the future.”

MIAMI -- For the first time, the relationship between Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat seems murky at best.

And his future with the team is now in doubt.

Contract talks between Wade and the Heat are at an impasse and the three-time NBA champion is preparing himself for possibly leaving the team this summer, a source confirmed to ESPN.com.

Wade is under contract for the 2015-16 season, and would earn about $16.1 million. He also could opt out and become a free agent. Wade has said many times, including in an end-of-season interview with The Associated Press, that he wants to remain with the Heat for the remainder of his career.

But Wade has not decided anything, including whether he will opt out, the person said on Thursday.

"He's trying to figure out how things should transpire and if he can reach another agreement with the Heat," the person said.

Thibs is a very good defensive coach but he does burn those guys out.
There were stories put out this week that players (including long-termers, not just new guys like Gasol) were very negative about Thibs in exit interviews and that many of them had taken to practicing/working out away from the Bulls official facility because Thibs basically lived there and he would more or less nag the players even if they were just popping in to work on their jumper or whatever.

It was pretty clear the Warriors were hustling out Klay and Curry back onto the court so they wouldn't have to deal with the concussion protocol. It's pretty sketchy that team doctors are in control of that stuff when the winning imperative is that strong.

It fell apart when Klay started bleeding from the ear.

Seems to be a lack of black head coaches in the NBA at the moment for a league that has been generally good about that.

I ain't really made about it though. Outside of Gentry and Lue there doesn't seem to be an assload of talent out there.

Hoiberg is eerily reminiscent of the bulls chasing jackson out of town for Floyd though. It doesn't make any sense.
YMMV

Trying to figure out walrus' hate for Lebron is harder than trying to find a snickers bar a whole foods.

All Gentry did really was reverse Terry Porter's attempt to make the Suns play more like the Pat Riley Knicks. Nash mostly ran that show. And Amare was back.

Gentry seems to be a well respected assistant, but he hasn't exactly done anything of note as a head coach. The Pistons under performed under him and he seemed to not like Grant Hill as a point-forward. Then went nowhere with that Clippers team that had Brand, Odom, Q Rich, Andre Miller, Corey Maggette, etc. And never really seeming to develop guys. Especially Darius Miles.

I think you need somebody who will let that Pelicans team run while giving them an actual defense. And who isn't afraid to use Tyreke Evans as his "point guard" no matter where he "plays" something Monty Williams figured out when Jrue went down and the team sparked their run to the playoffs.

Maybe Scott Brooks. Or Mike Brown. Perhaps Larry Drew.

I have no idea if I'm kidding about those suggestions.
