I want him to go to the Spurs just for how insanely good they will be. Can you imagine a series between them and the warriors.

Final post of the crazy day

Quote
The Warriors have agreed to terms on a five-year, $85 million deal with free agent forward Draymond Green.

Quote
The Sacramento Kings have entered the race for Portland Trail Blazers free-agent swingman Wesley Matthews, according to league sources, and have agreed to a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers in an effort to clear salary-cap space.

The Kings, sources say, are now pursuing at least three top free agents: Monta Ellis, Rajon Rondo and Matthews, the latter of whom they have secured a face-to-face sitdown with on Thursday.

While Sacramento probably doesn't have enough cap space to sign two of them, it is getting closer after striking a deal with Philadelphia that calls for the 76ers to absorb the contracts of Carl Landry and Jason Thompson -- along with Sacramento's 2014 first-round pick Nik Stauskas -- to help the Kings take their cap space this summer past the $15 million threshold.

Grantland‎.com's Zach Lowe reported Wednesday night that, to complete the trade, Philadelphia will also receive a protected future first-round pick from the Kings while agreeing to swap picks with Sacramento in the first round of two other future drafts. It's believed that Philadelphia will also send the rights to at least one player it has already drafted ‎to Sacramento as part of the transaction.

Monroe signed with Bucks so it looks like Knicks will go after Lopez. The problem for the knicks is that just failing and tanking next year isn't a good option for them because they don't have their first round pick. Gave it up for Bargnani.

For what its worth, the Lakers and knicks only truly have a few big name targets left.

LeBron James — Staying Cleveland

Marc Gasol —  Staying in Memphis

LaMarcus Aldridge —  Looks like Spurs or Suns

DeAndre Jordan —  Looks like back to the Clippers or Mavs.

Dwyane Wade — I have no idea what is happening here. I assume he stays with Heat.

Robin Lopez —  Knicks maybe

Wesley Matthews — Conflicting reports.

Tobias Harris — Restriced Free-Agent so the magic can match. And is Tobias Harris a sexy player to get a fanbase jazzed about?

Lou Williams: Haven't heard anything. Good player but same situation as harris. He is like a sixth man.

edit: Forgot Rondo: Who knows where he is going.

They traded away a draft pick, the guy they got in the last draft (Stauskas) and possibly a couple pick-swaps to the 76ers...  just to salary dump.  They're using the cap space to try to sign Rajon Rondo (who's not good) and Wesley Matthews (who tore his Achilles).

Also Woj ran an item saying Vlade Divac doesn't really understand the salary cap or other NBA transaction rules*.  Also the relationship between their star player and coach has broken down so badly they might have a 4th coach in 7 months.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
*Since this is a Woj piece and he mostly uses "reporting" as a way of ghostwriting his source's version of a story, this might not be strictly true.  At the very least it shows there's enough dysfunction in the organization that someone would plant a story about their team president being massively unqualified for the job.

If he was willing to settle for a one year deal, as another team, I might have thrown max dollars at him. But then this is probably part of some extended negotiation with the heat that plays into the next deal.

Kevin Arnovitz writes of the Clippers' attempts to re-sign DeAndre Jordan: "[Chris] Paul never called, never texted, never made any attempt to reach out to Jordan at any time during the process. At a certain point, the balance of affection tipped, and there weren’t enough dinners at Katsu-Ya or testimonials to Jordan about how much he’d flourished under Rivers’ development to keep Jordan in Los Angeles."

A big man who sucks on offense AND thinks he's deserving of being an All-Star and the focus of a team.

His high FG% is a mirage created by playing with two excellent passers in CP3 and Blake, his only points next year will come on offensive boards, playing with all these chuckers.

Jordan's a good offensive player.  Rolling to the rim, catching/finishing, and getting putbacks might seem like relying on athleticism or on teammates, but they're skills.  Not all bigs can do those things and very few can do them even close to his level.  I know he had CP3 on his team, but you could've said that about Tyson Chandler in New Orleans, and he's maintained a high FG% ever since.  Dallas was able to set up him and Brandan Wright for shots at the rim, so why couldn't they do it with DJ?

If he expects to be the focal point of the offense, especially if it's through the post, that could be a problem, and yeah he's been a bit overrated on defense, even before Doc's DPOY lobbying.  But he's a 26 year old player who does really important things on both ends of the floor, the Clippers did way better with him on the court than off (even when you factor in CP3 and Blake), and he hasn't missed a game in four years.  This is a good signing.

During Chandlers run of 2011-15 where he's had comparable FG% (but better TS% because of FT%) he was at 73-80% assisted and 34-43% dunks. His usage was 13% and 15% turnovers. He shot 71% within 3 feet.

Jordan over the same span has discounting one wildly outlier season each been at 66-69% assisted, 51-54% dunks. With 13% usage and 15% turnovers. He's shot 72% within 3 feet.

They've both pulled down the same amount of boards unless DeAndre's 2013-15 rate continues forward which would be huge, while Jordan has swatted more shots. They both have gotten to the line at a rate of .66 to 1 FGA. Though Chandler is dropping from the .8 range towards .45 and Jordan is doing the opposite.

Considering they're getting Jordan at age 26 at less than the coming max (two years sooner than they got Chandler) with less of an injury history and missing three years of his prime playing so well for the Knicks, and it's not like the Mavs are a significantly less pass happy and good spacing team, he should help make a good core to lure some more guys in the next year or two to play with Dirk's last couple years.

(And Brandan Wright has the same kinda numbers all over his offense. So it wasn't just Chandler. And earlier the Mavs used Dampier and Diop of all people in similar lesser versions of the same role.)

The only major concern is if Doc Rivers actually has some kind of big man voodoo and it's why Perkins imploded instantly after leaving the Celtics or if that had some other reasons like his prior injury.
