The Sacramento Kings, increasingly concerned about their floundering play under George Karl, entered the weekend hoping to delay any decision about the coach's future until the All-Star break, according to the league sources.

But sources told ESPN that the nature of the team's 128-119 loss Friday night to Brooklyn -- Sacramento's sixth loss in seven games -- and the fallout it generated have the Kings contemplating an immediate coaching change.

The Kings (21-29) have three road games remaining before the break: Sunday in Boston, Monday in Cleveland and Wednesday in Philadelphia.

It was not immediately clear if Karl would survive to coach all three of them or whom the Kings would choose as interim coach if they do make a change, but NBA coaching sources said early Saturday that it is unlikely Kings assistant coach Nancy Lieberman would take over. One possibility, sources said, is elevating assistant coach and former Kings forward Corliss Williamson to interim coach.

Derek Fisher will prove to be a much better NBA head coach than Steve Kerr.

Phil Jackson on why he fired Derek Fisher now: "I think it's nine losses out of the last 10 games. I think it's the business of winning. Obviously there are games in which we didn't get off to very good starts recently. But I think Derek was prepared. I think he took this business seriously. I think he was a dedicated worker. Some of that onus is on the players and I let them know that today."
"So unlike last year where the team was complete garbage..."

Quote
Phil Jackson says that the decision to fire Fisher was his and that he'll look for a coach with a philosophy similar to his, which we can assume means a coach who runs the triangle.
Perfect! It can't fail!

The Sacramento Kings are going ahead with a coaching change and plan to fire George Karl in the coming days, league sources told ESPN.

NBA coaching sources told ESPN that the Kings have decided internally that a change on the bench is needed and is likely to happen after Sacramento plays its final game before the All-Star break Wednesday in Philadelphia.

The Sacramento Kings, in a dramatic about-face, have decided against firing coach George Karl after a Tuesday morning meeting between Karl and Kings general manager Vlade Divac, according to league sources.

Sources told ESPN that, after Karl pledged to make some changes to address longstanding concerns about his defensive schemes and practice policies, Divac has decided to back the embattled coach.

Quote from: Zach Lowe
All the overblown hubbub over Whiteside's alleged defensive limitations has masked one of the real and irritating weaknesses in his game: The dude never passes. He has 21 career assists, and just 15 this season. Do you know how hard it is to record so few dimes? Friendly hometown scorers dole out that many fake assists to some guys over a normal month or two.

Whiteside could be just the seventh player ever to log at least 2,000 minutes and dish fewer than 0.5 assists per 36 minutes. His role doesn't require elite passing; he's a post scorer with an underrated soft touch, and a dunk machine picking-and-rolling with shooters around him. But on a few possessions every night, the opposing defense will smother those shots, and leave capable shooters open all over the floor. Whiteside ignores those players.

The Houston Rockets, who enter the All-Star break one of the NBA's most disappointing teams at 27-28 overall, have begun contacting teams about a potential trade of veteran big man Dwight Howard, a league source told ESPN's Chris Broussard in confirming a report by Yahoo! Sports.

The source told ESPN that the Rockets are doing their "due diligence," as Howard's long-term future in Houston is uncertain. He is expected to bypass the $23.3 million he is scheduled to earn in 2016-17 to become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

The trade deadline is Feb. 18.

League executives told Yahoo! Sports that Howard's agent, Dan Fegan, and the Rockets are working together on potential destinations for Howard, an eight-time All-Star who turned 30 in December.

However, Fegan, in a statement to ESPN on Thursday, said that wasn't the case: "I'm not privy to what the Rockets are doing or not doing with respect to Dwight Howard. What I can say, with 100 percent certainty, is that Dwight has not and has never asked the Rockets for a trade. And neither have I." ‎

Howard, reached Thursday by ESPN's Marc Stein, said in reference to Fegan's statement: "Dan's statement is true. I have not asked the Rockets to trade me, nor have I talked about right trades. I want to win. I want this situation to work. I chose this team. And I'm not running because we have been faced with some adversity."

Quote from: Kevin Pelton
Any moves the Rockets make at the deadline -- involving Howard or any of his teammates -- are likely to be futile if Harden is the real underlying issue.

Question: do dudes like Zach Lavine, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson etc have n-word privileges?

Imagine you had a guy who looked exactly like Klay or Lavine, but instead of big and ripped was like 5'8" and scrawny. Could that person get away with using the n-word in a group of black people?

trades starting

Quote
The Detroit Pistons acquired Tobias Harris from the Orlando Magic in exchange for Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova, it was announced Tuesday.

Quote
The Charlotte Hornets acquired guard Courtney Lee from the Memphis Grizzlies in a three-team trade Tuesday that included three other players and four future draft picks.

P.J. Hairston was traded from Charlotte to Memphis, which also acquired forward Chris Andersen from the Miami Heat. The Hornets also parted with point guard Brian Roberts, who was traded to Miami.

Rumors about Rockets dealing Lawson for Utah's Trey Burke... Cavs talking about dealing Varejao to Orlando for Channing Frye

Kings fired another assistant coach.

Apparently Dwight Howard wants a new deal starting at $30 million a year. :doge

Cavs crushed the Thunder today.

A lot of people were starting to jump on the Thunder bandwagon even versus giants like the Spurs/Warriors and I never really saw it. They have the same issue as the Cavs when they play those teams.

Kevin Love also played one of his best games as a Cav.

Except for that whole part at the end with somebody's mom...

That said, looking at West, Royce White, Larry Sanders, etc. the NBA could probably beef up their mental health stuff. It's one things if guys burn out after their career and into their 40s like Rodman.

David Lee is signing with Dallas, Varejao with the Warriors.

Anthony Davis used some kind of lag hacks and dropped 59 and 20 on the Pistons. Pelicans still only won by five.

Shaq the only other player to do it, in 2000, 61pts 23rebs. I think that was the birthday game where the Clippers didn't give him extra tickets.
