rike 3 Holdings has been hailed as the "Steven Spielberg of porn." It has also been called a copyright troll. Whether or not these titles are warranted, it is clear that Strike 3 is aggressive in policing unauthorized use of its pornography on the internet -- filing nearly 2,000 copyright infringement lawsuits in just over a year.

Yea this forum is active, all the time, day and night. Sure it doesn't have the millions of eyes scanning subreddits like Reddit, but I challenge you to find a subreddit where people actually invest in long comments as frequently as they do here.

Some apparent gamer slang I've heard from my nephew (a big Fortnite and R6 Siege fan) and an old colleague who was a huge WoW and Destiny player.

"Sweaty", "try-hard", "tilt", "blueberries" (MMO term apparently), "mats".

It's mostly the derogatory stuff I dislike. Sweaty and Try-hard just seem to contribute to a pretty toxic and unwelcoming culture. Salty is the only one I can abide, because it's silly and I use it judiciously.

lol blueberry is destiny specific and meaning that usually when you're in an open world or pvp game the players who you're not in the queue with are usually shit.

as for the sweaty and try hard, also in FPS games, ususaly means the player is trying so hard it's like an MLG finals on mainstage when they're playing a casual playlist.

mats, is literally materials shortened so WTF?

Tilt is just when something pisses you off...

Basically it ends up in this poster looking too soft for any games that are online based.

 :goty

They were meant to be living mushrooms, but whoever was in charge of naming them didn't get the memo and named them kuribos (chestnut people).

Then in SMW they made them look more like chestnuts and later called this version of them kuribons (galoombas).

And then with NSMBWii and NSMBU they introduced goombas that hide in chestnut shells called prickly goombas.  The shells burn up when hit by fire, ie chestnuts roasting on an open fire.  You encounter them in ice levels.

NSMBU introduced goombrats.  In Japanese they are called kakibo which means persimmon people.

And then SMM2 introduced a variant of goombrats for SMW style called goombuds (kakibon):

So maybe they're plants?

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I was surprised googling "chestnuts and persimmons" yielded a perfect image
[close]

Edit:

There are also pumpkin variants in NSMB DS and Galaxy 2.

Splunkin (Kabochan)

Pumpkinhead Goomba (Kabokuribo)

Kabocha is a pumpkin

So I guess they all have a fall produce theme.

It can look like a fungus/a fruit/a plant all it wants. If it's sentient then it's not gonna fly for vegetarians or vegans.

Goombas are clearly creatures. It's a little creature that looks like a bit like a mushroom. It's not actually a mushroom. This type of gecko looks just like a leaf. It doesn't mean it's a leaf. It's a gecko. Vegetarians don't eat lizards.

I think it's a problem because it is a racist term and it makes racism more acceptable.

I can't believe a horrifying bigot like this will be back on the streets in 2020.

buying a crunched game isn't an endorsement of crunch

ideally if you contribute to it being a huge success they will have the money to hire more people next time and will be able to crunch less

instead of all those poor devs crunching and then still watching all their work turn out to be a failure

I don't think that's what that user was banned for?  Click their post history and they edited out a huge chunk of their own posts to be "." in other threads like they were trying to clean up some argument they had.
Sorry, I meant to add another link to the exact post, further up that same page.

That thread and the 'ok boomer' thread are cracking me up. Why can't reset posters just sit down and listen? It's no small wonder that gammonboomers are just. so. tired.

Boycotting a game because of crunch seems counterproductive. Aren't the devs likely to get bonuses if it sells well?

There's also some debate that Polish law limits and ensures compensation for overtime. Potential for abuse still exists and I can't comment on Polish labor regulation but it's a magnitude lower on the exploitative scale if so.

Considering CDPR is making public statements about it, I'd imagine they at least in appearance or superficially adheres to local labor laws.

I'm all pro-union but there's really a lot of eye-wided idealism whenever ERA get on that topic. It's not a magic, sudden fix for the vagaries of any particular industry or workplace. Barely anyone seem to ever bring up that such an effort would happen on a country to country / company to company basis with whatever unions already exist there. In fact in most EU countries I would imagine game industry workers can and could unionize though I believe the work culture in those industries, along with the type of contracts and employee status, means poor footing for unions if left in neutral.

I must say I can't help but agree with some in the thread saying that a lot of people sound really out of touch with the reality of deadline windows.

The whole crunch thing is so fucking stupid in general;  even dumber are the people who cry for contract workers who come in for crunch time collect a bunch of OT and then are let go.  That's literally what contract developers do, and they often make way more money than salaried workers, they just have to manage finding their own work.  The crunch is desirable, it means OT, often time and a half or other bonuses.

I'm sure there are companies that treat workers better/worse at these things, those companies get bad reps in industries.. it's pretty damn competitive for workers so people can move around and companies are forced to change those cultures.

At this point it kind of sucks because OT is so frowned upon it's just lengthened projects and lowered pay lol

I don't have an issue with overtime provided there's a solid framing for compensation and limits on it, but I think it's naive that "bad reputation" impacting attractiveness on the work market is enough to act as a moderating force or a check & balance of an equal weight. As with many things, beyond a certain point there needs to be a clear, hard ceiling. The willingness of the workers is a pretty poor gauge of acceptable, healthy practices. Labor history is just a long illustration of it.

While I think ERA applied it's usual veneer of hyperbole to that discussion, there's been enough horror stories from enough videogames companies that it's not unreasonable to suspect it's a systemic issue in the industry.

I'm more explaining what I've experienced / how it is actually perceived by workers in the software industries in general more than proposing any regulation or lack there of.

This is not hard physical labor;  it can be draining and of course cut into your personal life time, and there can be some gross cultures.. but for the most part everyone is continuously looking for more and more labor in software.. job security is incredibly high, pay is incredibly high, people can get high pay at a very young age, etc.

My point about reputation is that for the most part it actually HAS worked;  I'm not saying it's what should be relied upon.. but because it's an industry constantly in need of new labor reputation actually effects your hiring ability.   There's a reason #Learn2Code is a meme.

It's my general experience too though my job has a really shallow pool of employers and I / we did get mildly fucked because of it. Videogame industry seems to be in the middle of that scale and depending on location you might not have the luxury to shop around for other employers because there aren't any.

but how does a title going to PC suddenly nullify the PS(X)s ability to put in a disc and play games? which the user says is the reason he plays on PS(X) hardware.... nothing changes that!!!

I mean... Sony fucking changed that, thats all on them.
Buy PS4 game
Put game in drive
Wait 10 mins for fucker to install to HDD
Boot up
multi gig day one patch to download before you play

The "just put game in machine and it fucking works, and dont have to worry about having to upgrade hardware every few years" argument frequently used against PC gaming straight up died this gen.
Xboxoxoxoxox and PS4pointwhatever are just PCs that you don't have admin rights to and a software whitelist you don't have access to nowadays

The vast majority of REEEE is either unemployed, on welfare/disability, or in entry level retail/IT/call center jobs.  Of course they don't know how adult jobs work.

Hello friend, have you heard about the glory of our gaming saviour Nintendo, whose console sales died for our sins, and whose handhelds have less than 32Gb of storage space?

Yes, the rationale for this was definitely because good guy Disney don't want to be tarnished by the name of bad guy Fox News
