Not quite. The farmers from the start wrote policies that would only affect their areas. In fact, our town isn't even mentioned in their program.
That's when our local parties decided they needed to hold together too but unlike the farmers we aren't a close-knit community and do not all vote for the same party.
We still have some folks who support the national parties (because they directly work or benefit from those parties).
Our Prime minister and two secretaries even came to visit for two campaign stops and they didn't for the other 37 local elections being held today.
This is a popular spot, a NATO summit was held here in 2007 and among other things the ESA(European Space Agency) HQ is located here.
Corporations often organize their congresses and conferences here as well.
In 2017 we were the "Official European City of Sport" in 2018 the "Official European City of Space".
National Geographic ranked us among the top 10 beach communities in the world.
The farmers just want to hold on to their free parking and will rob the treasury to fill the gaps in their own budget to renew all their roads.
They have no ambition whatsoever. Hopefully the national parties will keep them in check. After all, it was their dumb idea to merge our towns.
