Tim and Eric's Bedtime Stories had an episode with Ray Wise, Rhea Perlman, and Jorge Garcia last night and it was the best thing ever.

I will watch anything with Ray Wise in it.

He gets like 100x the screentime that he got in new Twin Peaks.

Episode is here (titled "The Duke" if the wrong one starts playing). Looks to be freely viewable for the next few days.

That's not difficult. He's on screen for maybe 40 seconds total.

Neat! "LEXPIRES: SEPTEMBER 18TH 2017" - It's all kinds of choking on the stream for me, despite displaying that it's preloaded.  :-\ I'll try again later.

Not sure how I feel about The Orville yet, there were things I liked in there (mostly just the classic space adventure stuff), the 'comedy' however fell flat for me. I'll keep watching till I can form more solid feelings towards it.

Rewatching BSG out of boredom. Halfway through Season 2, which is still the good part. Bracing for the downgrade.
lol so true.

The first season and a half are probably my favorite TV sci-fi of all time.

There are still great episodes after that but it definitely becomes way more uneven after that initial stretch of being damn perfect.

It was neither as bad as I kind of expected nor as good as I would secretly want such a thing to be. I'll watch it more to see if it gets better (or cancelled) I suppose.

while i lay in the sweltering heat past few days i thought of this thread and the list your fave shows thing. One my favorites was TSCC.  Just really solid genre show a lot more clever and well written than I was expecting. Has aged pretty well too. I ended up liking a lot of the stuff the staff did after as well (12 Monkeys at Syfy, Nikita at CW, Person of Interest and Fringe too IIRC).

The insomnia ep in season 2 in particular is one i think about and go back to a lot.

Anybody catch Peaky Blinders on Netflix?

Quality of the show blew me away. Production values out the wazoo. Cillian Murphy killlss it.

Fucking great music too, anachronisms be damned. Tons of Nick Cave (does theme song) and PJ Harvey.

-> btw, it's a show about a Birmingham street gang just after WW1.

Caught the premiere of The Orville. I should probably put this in The Unpopular Opinions thread, because I liked it a whole bunch. It's off-brand Star Trek, as roleplayed by your college RPG group, including the toilet humor. It's not mocking like Galaxy Quest, and it's not as antiseptic as Star Trek, even though the show is put together the same way, even down to scene transitions, shot composition, and beats.

One of my favorite bits was the straight up comment to the robot/synthetic bridge member, "Aren't you guys like super racist or something?" and the robot responds, "We consider all other races inferior, yes." It was refreshing to see the old trope rolled out against a modern rubric. Spock would frequently talk about the inferiority of humans, how their passion overwhelmed their intellect. Bones dropped into racist terms EVERY time Spock's decisions bothered him. Klingons felt anyone without their combative philosophy were weak, and only worthy of destruction. Basically, most of the villains in Star Trek are racist, and so are many of the sympathetic characters. Seeing put out here center-stage frames it anew.

It's definitely not as bad as the reviews made it out to be and I've talked with a few people who seem to really like it and understand that its basically a light comedy take on star trek.

I still have some issues with MacFarlane's breed of comedy matched with Star Trek but I can certainly see why the show appeals to some people. Part of the show appeals to me.

For what its worth I liked the 2nd episode more than the first.

So I liked episode 2 of The Orville more than ep 1, lots more! I noticed the humor less (ha!) (or maybe it was less jarring since most of it was inoffensive) and the sci fi adventure part of the story was pretty great, I must say the resolution to the story had me laughing :lol

Bojack Horseman S4 was great. It touches on depression, aging or dementia in a just and tactful manner but not to the detriment of the comedic pace. I guess some could yawn at the obvious commentary on current politics but it's mostly a sideshow and I liked they didn't went full Trump with it, it would have dragged the whole thing down.

Cogman is basically the only person I trust with a GoT prequel. You can tell Martin has really liked him from all the back in the S1 days, when he was the "faithful book adaption" guy on the set. That being said, I still think prequels are meh ideas in general, and specifically in this case I don't think enough material exists to make a great one. GoT became a huge hit in large part due to the characters, set pieces, and shock moments/violence/sex. Sure there are great characters throughout the lore, but without Martin's dialogue and POV-driven characterization I don't believe any prequel idea can match GoT. There won't be a Tyrion or Dany or Arya.

Assuming they want dragons, violence, intrigue etc etc...the best prequel idea would be The Dance Of Dragons. Do I think Cogman or anyone can make those characters great without Martin doing the heavy lifting? Nope.

I watched 3 episodes of S1 the other night and found it dreadfully boring. This is not what AHS is trying to be at all. AHS is all about kitsch and being over the top, aside from Roanoke, which was dreadfully boring.

definitely get on watching season 2, season 1 was slow and the payoff may not be what everyone wanted, season 2 ep 1 was great though .

The Orville Ep 3 - Okay this show has won me now, little dumb comedy and a scenario deeply channeling TNG. If they keep this up I'll be happy.

So much gold. The psychic dude talking to the dead guy he replaced, the private detective's old career retrospective, the fucking Vancouver montage - just poetic. I love this show

One thing that occurred to me about American Vandal is that it's conclusion is actually considerably more enjoyable than either the two things it's primarily skewering. Serial and Making A Murderer were both so ambiguous that they wound up feeling more exhausting than satisfying.

Oh damn I forgot how fucking funny Lilyhammer is. The cultural parts probably aren't as relatable to non-Norwegians, but you don't need to know about Scandinavian culture to watch (plus you'll learn!), so if you're up for it give it a try, whoever needs something new to watch. Started watching this when it came out but didn't finish it for reasons. Glad I gave it another go because I'm enjoying it even more now than the first time. It should be on Netflix, if anyone is interested. And episode 1 definitely gives a good impression on the rest if you just wanna see what it's like.

Its funny. I mean its a lot to hang a premise on and it gets kinda thin but it still is indeed funny enough to watch. The lead idiot and his cohort idiots are the most enjoyable aspect of it.

I watched the entire thing and finished it on Sunday.  The documentary is probably one of his best, if not his best.  It tends to become more American centric in episodes 6-9, but it's still great because it talks about how it ties into social movements and greater US policy of the time.  It stays very even handed in their accounts of Vietnamese and US atrocities without getting mired in the rabbit holes of debate.  I really appreciated how much time it spent on how the various Vietnamese groups experienced the war.

Finished up the second season of Ash versus Evil Dead.

I'm starting to realize I've probably seen enough evil dead for my lifetime despite loving the movies so much.

The TV show just seems to have run out of ideas quickly and the universe doesn't feel expansive enough to bring new energy to the franchise.

The show is fine if you just want gore, and Bruce Campbell charm and that was enough of an appeal at first for the show itself to be appealing. But its kinda run out of steam now imo.
