Got the hammock Tasty :)

Thank you!

:D YW! I can't believe that they finally implemented friend-to-friend online mail in this game (after snubbing the idea in Wild World, City Folk and New Leaf.) It felt like a design decision they dug their heels in, I imagined something like "We want played to be online at the same time to get messages."

But now they implemented it here, AND you can send gifts over the internet! I mean it's 2 max per day (per person?) but it's awesome. I'm still smarting from the loss of Pelly and Pete but this is such wonderful functionality to finally have in the series. :)

Did you pick them or dig them up?

I picked them.

Seems in this one you need to get the stems. In the past you could just pick and replant.

Being able to eat fruit and then pick up a tree is sooooo useful. Was micromanaging my tree placement and being able to just up and shovel the fucker up rather than chop the damn tree down and replant entirely is beyond helpful.

Yeah been doing more of this in the last two days, having nondestructive tree editing is a revelation. And it doesn't matter how many times you dig up and rebury a tree! In past games there was a limit and the tree started dying if you moved it before it was fully grown. So I had a bit of anxiety moving trees here (especially not fully grown ones!)

But yeah, it's all nondestructive.

Same with flowers! You can run through a flower to scatter its petals, but I believe the stems will be remain to regrow the petals. Lot of little things add up so that decisions such as "Do I want this tree here?" are much less stressful in this game. Same with moving buildings and whatnot. Being able to go back on a decision with no consequences (trees) or an appropriate penalty (buildings) is sooooo freeing.

:drudge Also some time-sensitive bamboo news:

The crafting item "young spring bamboo" will only be receivable until May 31st! But normal bamboo for crafting will be year-round.

Also growing bamboo seems to work differently in this game, a fully grown sprout will ONLY spawn a single bamboo shoot in the ground for its ENTIRE lifetime. (Bamboo in ACNL spawned 1-3 every couple days.)

I also ran into trouble trying to replant a grown bamboo in the same spot ("No where to plant this here!") So bamboo is trickier than other things it seems.

I've used the axe only once and have since learned my lesson. It's a pointless tool in this with the knowledge that you can just shovel a tree up.

This also gives fruit actual utility.

I noticed that on a bamboo island that you need to dig up holes and find single bamboo shoot. You can't just cut down bamboo and replant it would appear?

In the next game 7 years down the line, the stone and iron axes will probably be folded into the same item. I thought it was clever they went to the trouble of making a new type of axe, the only real "spinoff" tool, in order to facilitate the new crafting system while preserving legacy axe gameplay.

But yeah with the ability to eat fruit and dig up trees, its usefulness is almost nothing... Basically if you're out of fruit and Miles to try for more, and you really really need to clear some trees, the iron axe is all you got. But if you have even a handful of fruit, yeah, it's pointless. You even make money selling whole trees so there's even a bell incentive to dig up trees instead of chopping them down.

Sorry Nook Miles+, no I won't be chopping anything today OR ANY DAY :rage

I never even bothered chopping down a tree until a couple of days ago when I saw a bug on a stump on (I think) your island. Only moved and/or sold whole trees until then

I still have my original iron axe

The thing is, you can never be out of fruit as the shop sells your native fruit now.

So you have infinite supply to rearrange your town how you want it.

True freedom. It's great.

Oh yeah! They sell your fruit in the shop, and that ties in so cleanly with a lot of the gameplay systems, especially tree removal as you said.

If you had a lot of time you could probably make some bells on arbitrage: you can buy your own fruit for 400 bells and sell it on another island for 500, a 20% profit.

(Image removed from quote.)

I've been assuming it's getting a 4-star town rating, with water/cliff permits at 5-star. From a discussion featuring a bunch of reviewers: "It's one of, if not the, hardest things to get in the game."

How are ratings handled in this game? In past games it wasn't an actual rating. It was basically a written evaluation. Like,"I'm not sure if I'm allowed to write this but anything would be better than what we are doing now, which is nothing " which is charming little feedback on a review of your towns progress. If it's just "your town is rated 2 stars!" then that would be disappointing.

Gold shovel or axe is unlocked at 5 star from what I read so there's still an (overt) incentive there.
