So given that we’ve had our evidence gathering, we’ve had our trial, nothing substantive was proven, yeah, good trial guys.

The Democrats should've offered Republicans an off ramp after 2016 for those members of the GOP that hated his guts (and still do).
Siphoning off members and letting them 'off the hook' would've angered some of their woke base but in the long run would've given them the votes needed against Trump.

But instead they went all in on Russia and only brought the GOP closer together. Right after 2016, when McCain was still breathing they could've probably convinced him and Lindsey to work with them.
Trump said you're either with me, or with them. And they shut the door to any Republican that could be persuaded to defect, including all the '#nevertrumpers'.
