So these are the video settings at max. I have a 7970 AMD and an i5 cpu.

Ignore the choppiness of the video. For some reason my normal video record program was having issue with 2k15 so I had to use a different one that I don't think is very good and it made the video quality very choppy. The game isn't choppy like the video.

Just keep your eye on the frame rate counter in the upper left. The only difference in the videos is that one is with v-sync on and the other with it off.

With V-sync off I get anywhere from 60 to 80 frames pretty much always during gameplay. The framerate drops into the 30 and 40's during cutscenes and during the opening tip-off but is always in the range mentioned above during actual gameplay.

Vsync-on seems to be a frame limiter that just locks it at 60. During gameplay it stays pegged at 60 with the same dip in frame with cutscenes and the opening tip.

I will say the game plays better, and feels smoother with v-sync on. It feels choppy and inconsistent with it off even though its always in the 60 to 80 range.

V-sync on

V-sync off.

I can't remember exactly because this is from years ago, but VC's "vsync" isn't actual vsync, so if you want it, force through the drivers.

Either the special effects or shader quality controls that "haze" in the cutscenes and arena shots, getting rid of that like triples the cutscene framerate.

I'm okay with bumping a couple things down to medium since it still looks better than 2K14 and runs smoother anyway. Still seeing that it's going to be time soon to move onto an i7 or something.

Yeah it feels like a 60 fps frame limiter rather than actual v-sync. Which is fine either way. It plays better with it on though. Which wasn't the case in 2k14 but then I could easily run that game at 120 frames constantly and never take a dip so.

The thing that will make or break this PC version is if the modders can update their tools to work. So much has changed in the code since this version is based on the current gen rather than last gen that its basically broken all the tools that people used on the PC version over the last few years. That means it will be a long while if ever to see the Ultimate Base Roster ported over which is why I'm going to keep 2k14 installed in addition.

Still will wait for my brother to play this weekend to post real gameplay impressions. In the little bit that I've dabbled in single player though, I like some of the changes. I like the shot meter always being on screen. And some of the cheese has been removed. We'll see if I can discover new cheese when I play another personally locally.

It probably would have worked out better if they had them ad-lib around it instead of blatantly reading it and probably only doing a few takes.

Steve Kerr said they let them do that with the commentary and it's some of the better bits. (Compared to the repeating scripted stories about last season/new signing/rookie/coach/etc.)

Finally got around to playing against somebody in a local couch co-op situation in 2k15.

I was impressed. My impressions are based off of superstar difficulty with default settings and playing against another person but a lot of the cheese has been removed from the game. There was a ton of tricks and tools that basically bad been in there for many years that simply were too high percentage and too exploitable. And its definitely harder to do a lot of that stuff now.

I think superstars have received a slight nerf. Which is a good thing. I mean they are still great. But in prior years, they were pretty much unstoppable which meant the only way to compete was to cheese the game with your superstar to match the other superstar.

I like that you need some room and clearance to do your dribble moves. You can't just be on top of a defender and wiggle the stick to worm your way to the basket or you will lose the ball.

I thing the defense does a much better job of staying home instead of constantly doubling and leaving shooters wide open beyond the arc.

I like that there isn't a forcefield around the defender anymore on drive moves. It is possible to simply outmaneuver them to the basket. But its still not a cakewalk in that aspect because there are a lot of contact animation shots that will lower your percentage.

I like that there is finally a lob pass option.

Basically when it comes to playing the game, I think its a huge improvement from NBA 2k14 PC last year which was based on the last gen engine.

Maybe a lot of these improvement were already in the PS4/XB1 version but for me they are new and appreciated.

The game feels slightly slower. Slightly more sim based. And slightly more defensive oriented. At least until I play more and build up a new set of exploits.

PC version of 2K15 got a small patch yesterday to add more video options and make a couple PC specific tweaks, it's just in the .cfg file for now but there are explanations for them so you can toggle more things than were allowed in the menu.

Normal patch with gameplay and bug fixes and stuff that consoles get will come when that does. They're all on the same patching "system" now so "console" patches should be out same day as consoles.

But they've said that before...but it looks like it might hold up this year.

The cover players are Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, and James Harden. Physical copies of the game will ship with inserts of all three covers, so you can choose whichever one you like best, and swap them in and out.

Spike Lee has been brought in to help produce MyCAREER in NBA 2K16. This year’s story will feature a player called “Frequency Vibrations”, though that is a placeholder name/nickname and you can still substitute your own. The mode will continue to be heavily storyline driven, and focus on both the on-court career and off-court life of the player.

It does look a lot better than Live has in a long while at least. Like maybe since Live 2005.

By the time it comes to PC next year it might be worth picking up along with 2K17.

My favorite part of the EA conference were the passive-aggressive shots fired at 2K's shitty online.  :lol

That reminds me, if you've pre-ordered 2K16 on PC keys are being sent out the 24th or 25th (conflicting dates due to one source, GMG, being based in the UK I suspect) for preloading.

You can get it for $34 off FunStock Digital with code: SEP-COUPMAIL-PRE25

That wouldn't bother me if the story was actually interesting or dramatic or good but its boring. The high school and college stuff is just lame. I don't think Spike had anything to do with it. I think 2k just got him attached for marketing purposes ala the Jay Z thing a few years back.

The tech also isn't good enough to work imo. It's like watching flapping puppet heads talk. I mean many videogames have this problem but when something is trying to be especially loose and hammy, its really distracting. The gameplay in general though is pretty on point so far.

My brother came over yesterday and we played three games which is how I always sort of evaluate the game. 2k seems to bounce between the game being very defensive one year and offensive the next in reaction. This seems to be one of the defensive years which tends to be the bias I like. Defensive stoppers in the lane seem to be very powerful. They get a lot of blocks and are able to strip the ball a decent amount.

Rebounding feels very good this year. Probably the best its ever been.
