Mid-season Supernatural season 5 episodes, for some reason they go through a whole mess of comedy-themed episodes, right as the world has theoretically turned toward the Apocalypse. It's oddly out of place.
From episode 5 onward, the tone is weirdly light. Fallen Idols has Paris Hilton as the episode's Big Bad. The next episode has several Trickster references, but end up being arc-related. Next we get a Grumpy Old Men send-up, then an actual Trickster episode which takes place in "TV Land," then a fan Convention...
Then one episode with some great, seriously all-arc, all the time, character progression, arc progression... and then back to the laughs.
It fails to really convey the sense of imminent danger, or even the Apocalypse onset which was the whole set-up from last season.
It's fun, and the show never really takes itself seriously to begin with, but I'm wanting more arc and less glibness.
