I've posted on and off on GAF for years, usually under this name or Hollywood or something like that. Haven't posted for years now, but lurked to keep up with the videogame news.
Really its a long time coming. I don't see how so many people can live their life just constantly trashing others mistakes. I'm not talking actual criminals and things like that, but just everything said on social media or in a post that might not be the brightest. It's not even I disagree with how people should treat others with respect, I disagree with how the board for years handled it.
Its like a flood of just constant trash about who said what, be it a celebrity or inside the industry, isn't it draining to constantly try to keep up with who to judge and how to judge them? Not only that, but it's hypocritical a lot of times, because if it's some indie guy acting like an idiot - it's nothing - because no one cares much. If it's a product someone cares about, like poor working conditions, people will ignore the same issues because it's something they want.
Even posting on GAF in of itself is hypocritical, not just because of this stuff coming out, but because the guy running it makes six figures a year from ad revenue (he's said so himself), he does nothing, gives nothing to no one on his moderation staff or community, and bans anyone who blocks ads preventing him from making that money.
The irony is, I don't know the guy, and maybe he made a mistake or two with a girl long in his past and learned from it. But running his site for year with zero actual empathy for others, it now backfires on himself.
