Genius, Visionary, Modern Hero.
That is Kevin Flynn.
He came into our lives and showed us the limitless possibilities of the future. And then, all of a sudden, he "disappeared."
Some people believed he died. We don't. We know that Kevin Flynn Lives.
We're not crazy, we're not obssessed, we're not lunatics. We simply have followed the facts wherever they lead. And the facts tell us that Kevin Flynn Lives.
We are here for Kevin. Nobody can make us stop believing that he is out there, that he's waiting for us, and that he will return when the time is right.

I want to lick her forehead :drool
And this could be the coolest Sci-Fi movie, if they treat it right. The right soundtrack and the right imagery.
The best thing about Olivia Wilde is her real name: Olivia COCKBURN. I wonder why she changed it ???
EDIT3: OH MY GOD IT'S SO 80S AND PERFECT
Man, this movie is going to be so awesome just for the soundtrack alone. If it's a capable movie in it's own right I may break down and weep.
I can't for a second imagine that this movie will be anything less than my favorite movie of all time. The first is already my second all-time favorite film, so I'm really fucking stoked for this. Every single thing about this movie gently pets my rock-hard boner for science fiction films.

I love the first movie as well. I've always wondered how it's aged for someone who didn't see it when it came out. At times it's a little slow, especially by today's action standards.

And if you understand computers and any minor programming, especially early 80s computer jargen, then Tron is awesome on a whole new level.
CLU is a character in Legacy but these days few people will get the reference at first.
Avatar did 3D first and had blue stuff in it. :avatar
I kept wanting to pick up the game when it came out, but never did. I hope there's a fun videogame to go with this.

even back in the 90's, I hated the shit outta Hackers.
It was either that or The Net as my most reviled computer-thriller movie of the era.
Never seen Johnny Mnemonic?Yeah, its kinda shite, but its got Udo Kier, Ice T (bad acting award 1), Henry Rollins (BAA-2, he's really terrible in it), and Dolph Fugging Lundgren in it. Its a bad movie, but its not entirely unentertaining, and yes, seriously, Dolph Lundgren gives a good performance.
"Johnny Mnemonic" is a data trafficker who has undergone cybernetic surgery to have a data storage system implanted in his head. The system allows him to store digital data too sensitive to risk transmission on computer networks. To keep the cargo secure, the data is locked by a password known only to the intended recipient. Johnny enters a trance-like state while the data is being transferred or the passwords are being exchanged, making him unaware of the contents and unable to retrieve it. He makes a modest living in the Sprawl by physically transporting sensitive information for corporations, underworld crime rings or wealthy individuals.
As the story opens Johnny has arranged to meet with his most recent customer, Ralfi Face, at the Drome bar. Ralfi has stashed hundreds of megabytes of data in Johnny, and is overdue paying for the storage. To add to his troubles, Johnny has learned that Ralfi has placed a contract on him, although the reasons are unclear. Johnny finds Ralfi at his usual table, accompanied by a muscle man. Johnny threatens them with a sawed-off shotgun in his bag, but is incapacitated by a neural disruption device hidden under the table. Ralfi reveals that the data was, unknown to him at the time, stolen from the Yakuza, who are very interested in ensuring it is not revealed.
Johnny is rescued by Molly, a "Razorgirl" who has undergone extensive body modifications, most notably fingernail blades. She joins the action at the table, looking for a job. When attacked by the muscle man she cuts his wrist tendons and takes the incapacitating device control from him. Ralfi offers to pay her off, Johnny offers a higher bid to hire her as a bodyguard. Johnny and Molly take Ralfi as they exit the bar, but then Ralfi is killed by a Yakuza contract killer, who dismembers Ralfi with a monomolecular wire sharper than any knife. Johnny fires the shotgun ineffectually, while Molly is delighted to be up against a pro.
Johnny decides that the only way to save himself from the same fate is to get the data out of his head. When Johnny tells Molly the only way to retrieve the password is with a SQUID, she leads him to an amusement park to visit Jones, a retired "navy dolphin". Jones' previous job was to locate and then hack enemy mines using sensors implanted in his skull, including a SQUID. To keep them loyal, the Navy addicted all of their "war whales" to heroin, so Molly trades Jones some heroin in exchange for retrieving the password. Armed with the password, Johnny has Molly read it to him in order to enter the retrieval trance, recording everything that is returned. After downloading the data, Johnny uploads a snippet to a Yakuza communications satellite, with the implication that the rest will be released if he is not left alone.
This leaves the more immediate threat of the Yakuza killer, who is unaware of the threat to release the data. Molly takes Johnny to the "Lo Teks", anti-technology misfits who live in a suspended hideout high in the geodesic domes covering the Sprawl. Communicating via taut wires strung between the platforms, the Lo Teks are instructed to allow the killer to ascend the hideout to meet Molly on "The Killing Floor". Here, on a sprung floor that is wired to synthesizers and amplifiers, she dances around his killing wire until it cuts off his own hand and then falls from the platform.
At the end of the story Johnny and Molly intend to make a living for themselves by retrieving the faint traces of all the previously stored data in Johnny, and blackmail his former customers with it, while living with the anti-tech gang.
Differences from the source material
The story in the movie significantly deviates from the short story, most notably turning Johnny, not girlfriend Molly, into the primary action figure. In fact, the movie transforms this girlfriend from Molly into "Jane", as the film rights to Molly were owned by a company unaffiliated with the film's producers.[4]
Nerve Attenuation Syndrome (NAS) is a fictional disease in the film, which is not present in the short story. NAS, also called "the black shakes", is caused by an overexposure to electromagnetic radiation from omnipresent technological devices, and is presented as a raging epidemic affecting the world in the future. The plot of the film revolves around the one pharmaceutical corporation that has found a cure but chooses to withhold it from the public in favor of a more lucrative treatment program.
The character Chrome also makes an appearance as an AI who confers with the owner of a large zaibatsu, one of the story's antagonists. She/it is a conscience figure, unlike her original security challenge-response program nature in Gibson's short story.
Basically what happened was it was taken away and re-cut by the American distributor in the last month of its prerelease life, and it went from being a very funny, very alternative piece of work to being something that had been very unsuccessfully chopped and cut into something more mainstream.
—William Gibson, in interview with The Peak magazine, 19th October, 1998[5]
...apparently (Disney) the top brass is so psyched about Tron: Legacy that they'e planning a TV show for 2011 & 2012 (probably for Disney XD). No news on whether it will be animated or live action. They're also already planning another Tron film for 2013.
Of course, if Legacy bombs at the BO, this will all get cancelled ASAP. But, right now, they're really behind it.
Expect the new Tron Legacy trailer at the beginning of the ALICE movie (in both 3D and IMAX) on March 5th in theaters. It will run almost 2 1/2 mins

I don't understand this clock.
even back in the 90's, I hated the shit outta Hackers.
It was either that or The Net as my most reviled computer-thriller movie of the era.
Scratch that. No trailer, yet.Awesome. That's my new wallpaper.
But this:
http://www.pitcell.com/
Brief rundown of the trailer:
- A good deal of exposition from Bruce Boxleitner
- An introduction to the main character - Son of Flynn
- A lot of footage from the Tron-world.
- Remember the arcade from the original film? Remember the atmosphere in the arcade, with Flynn being king of his little place. That is what the Tron-world is now like.
- Son of Flynn is thrown into the world, and there is a very cool shot of the Encom laser rearing it's head behind him.
We all know it's revolving around Flynn's son. It starts with said son being told about his father being missing for 20 years. How Flynn was revolutionizing everything from computers to medicine. The son enters Flynn's arcade. He then goes behind the secret door behind the old Tron arcade game. Fires up a computer. A familiar laser rises behind him. Fires up.
Then we get the computer world!
It was very frantic from this point out. First thing we see is a full on Recognizer. It was badass. Lots more moving parts. The cockpit seemed to rise up the legs like an elevator. Inside we see Flynn Jr. We see a shot of Young Flynn (presumably Clu). We see a badass old Flynn with a posse of other programs behind him. It looks to me like Flynn totally owns the place. We see lots of frisbees being thrown. We see lots of light bikes smashing each other up. We see a light quad-bike getting in on the action. We see the gal from Bones laying on a pretty badass couch.
We also see some tap-dancing with a cane.
Trailer, which is in 3-D opens with shot of Encom building.
Then Alan is talking to Flynn's son and says, "I've told you that I'd let you know if I ever had information about your missing father." He then says something about a call he got from Flynn's arcade, only the line has been dead for twenty years. There's a shot of Flynn's arcade, old and boarded up, with his son breaking in. He approaches the TRON video game and puts in a quarter. It falls out. He then finds a secret door, much like the door that opened on the "lightcycle video" a year ago. In the back is a secret room with a computer. He sits at the desk and the same lazer that "zapped" Kevin Flynn into the "GAME" Zaps Flynn Junior into the game.
The computer world is very much like what we saw in the teaser. We first get a shot of a recognizer which takes Flynn Jr, somewhere. We also get a shot of Olivia Wilde's character lounging on a chair dressed in an all black body suit. As a contrast, we see an absolutely gorgeous blonde woman walking towards the camera in a white body suit. We then see a dude with white hair who I thought was David Bowie with a guitar. I assume he's with Daft Punk. We then see Clu, Jeff Bridges' computer doppelganger, dressed in all black with yellow stripes getting off an elevator with a posse behind him. I think he's a gangster or something that runs the computer world.
The final segment shows Flynn Jr. walking down a hallway towards a lighted room (pitcell picture) as we hear something like "It's been a long time." We then see Kevin Flynn's eyes (same shot from the teaser). The trailer ends with the date the film opens and then a shot of two combatants on the light cycles bumping into eachother.
The mood of the trailer is definetly DARK. Throughout there's an electronic baseline which I assume is Daft Punk.
Started off with Flynn's Son talking to some man about finding his father. They presume Flynn to be dead, so the Son inherits Flynn's Arcade. They show the Son racing through the streets on a motorcycle - cutting corners sharply and jumping over curbs. The Son pulls up to Flynn's Arcade which looks like it has been shut down for years. He enters the arcade and turns on the power which lights up all the old video game cabinets. The Son walks over to the Tron machine and puts a quarter into it. The quarter falls right through the coin slot and onto the ground. When the Son bends over to pick it up he notices grooves on the floor and realizes the Tron cabinet can be moved. It opens up like a door and there is a secret computer room on the other side. The room appears to have similar Master Control Program desk console that Ed Dillinger had in his office. The Son boots up the dust covered machine and behind him the Laser from the ENCOM labatory rises up and powers on. We do not get see the Son getting digitized, but in the very next shot we are in the digital world and they show an updated look Recognizer slowly landing. The CGI looked beautiful. There were more shots of various digital world locations. I do not remember exactly what was said but we hear the Son and Flynn talking about how it was good to see each other again. During this they showed what looked like a DISC battle arena. Various characters throwing Discs at each other and one character who was wielding dual discs. They also showed a bit of Light Cycles racing around. There is a shot of (I'm assuming) Olivia Wilde's digital character lounging on a couch. Another shot of a man in Yellow (I couldn't tell if it was Flynn) walking with a group of Red Characters behind him. They also showed one shot of Flynn's face - the same blurry video shot that was used in the already released trailer. Over all of this the Daft Punk score was playing - the same score that's been floating around the internet. At the very end of the trailer we see the Son in a blue light cycle cutting off a red light cycle and it disintegrates.
Why did they (Disney and the Directors) chose to wait so long to make a Tron movie and why now? - Technology caught up with the story they wanted to tell and make it feel more real and relevant to today. Also because Disney decided to move ahead with the project.
Is Tron 2.0 part of Tron's canon and will it be reference in Tron Legacy? No. Tron 2.0 is not part of the Tron "movie" canon.
Why did they decide to do it in 3D? - Mostly the success of Avatar and that the direction of movies are going the way of 3D especially with Disney. They shot in 3D because they wanted to immerse the audience into the world of Tron.
Would Bit show up in the movie? - No Bit doesn't appear persay but another character inspired from him with more dimensionality does make a debute.
Would the MPC be in the movie? - No, the original "old construct" was destroyed in the first Tron. There will be a new more relevant threat to address this time.
Would other characters from the first Tron make cameos? - Yes many, some glimpses of some of them are in the trailer if you look close enough.
How did Joseph work with Steven to make Tron Legacy faithful to the original movie? - Both Joseph and Steven said they wanted to make sure they were careful to include nods to the original movie while taking Tron into another more contemporary direction.
Will we see the return of the games from the first Tron? - Joseph stated we would see updated takes on the original gladitorial games as well as some new ones.
Is Daft Punk in the movie? - No, but their music is.
Is the track that was leaked on the internet the music Daft Punk did for the movie? No. There are many fake tracks out there online. No one has heard Daft Punk's score except for now which was used in the trailer you just saw.
Were they concerned that today's audiences would even remember the original Tron? - The answer from Steven is that they would remember too much about the first Tron. Joseph when on to explain that people would see Tron Legacy just like the original Tron was supposed to be viewed but more in line with the level of effects they intended with the first movie - Tron Legacy will feel more realistic.
Why did they use a minimalistic approach to the new suit designs? - Joseph stated that they didn't want to rely on the traditional cel/rotoscoping techniques and that it took too long to hand draw and process that style. They went with real illuminated suits instead that could be further enhanced with CG without relying on inverting the negatives and overlaying facial details. It was easier to do this effect with today's technology over CG bodies.
Did Jeff Bridges have any involvement with the script? - Joseph and Steven both answered that Jeff was very much involved with the script writing process and was hands on in making sure the movie was in line with his character. Jeff found the idea of an older Flynn vs. a younger Flynn very appealing to explore and develop.
Is Disney planning on making any new Tron Legacy based attractions at either Disney World or Disneyland Park? - Joseph answered, many things are in development for both Disney parks but he could not disclose details.
Apparently the Motion Picture design team out in California have created a vinyl wrap that will encompass one of the Monorails that circle above the park. From what he's seen, it will make the Monorail look like a light-cycle from the upcoming TRON movie is riding the rails above you.
I guess the cab is the cycle and the rest of the cabins are the light trail

The animated series is going to be CG and bridge the time between Tron and Tron Legacy.

Bingo.
Tron, from just the trailer, looks like an intensive labor of love - and the set design absolutely smokes Avatar. The organic stuff is beautifully textured (Flynn's decrepit arcade is impressive) and so much of the film inside Tron looks like it was ripped from the '80s. I really love everything I see about this film - from the music, the atmosphere and the aesthetics.

They were trying to get this done for nearly thirty years. Throughout the entire Eisner era he wouldn't hear of it because he thought Tron was stupid.
on the other hand, I'm not sure how I feel about Tron Legacy: 1994 Edition

Yeah, there's always that but, on the other hand, what if Tron 3 was about to come out?
I really hope this is true and they don't mean "major" like the T-800 in Terminator Salvation was "major."
ManaByte, I hate to pile on, but please, please, please, pleae consider that not every person wants to know everything about every movie before it comes out. Let us just ooh and ahh at the official trailer images without having script leaks shoved down our throats. Please.
Our love of TRON should unite us, not divide us!
I remember when Tron 2.0 came out there were rumors that they were going to do a movie sequel based on it.
TBH, I'm glad they didn't. Aesthetically, Tron Legacy looks way more pleasing than Tron 2.0 did.

I'm sure who the baddie is, is not a major spoiler. The trailer that's out doesn't really confirm it one way or another but I assume the bad guy would be a major part of the marketing campaign. It's sort of like if Manabyte were spoiling that Megatron will be the bad guy in Transformers 3.
That's great, except none of us went to ComiCon and we don't read CHUD.

“Tron Legacy” isn’t due until December, but Disney already is putting a sequel on its monorail track.
Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, the “Lost” writers/executive producers who worked on “Legacy,” have begun writing a sequel to the studio’s sci-fi tentpole.
No details have been released because it is so early in the process. Notwithstanding the question of whether the movie will be a hit, other topics to ponder are whether the sequel will focus on spinoff characters or center on a new adventure set in the “Tron” world. Insiders have suggested that Kitsis and Horowitz are working on a way to round the story into a trilogy.
Edward Kitsis, left, and Adam Horowitz
No deals have been made with “Legacy” director Joseph Kosinski or cast members to return, though options were placed in the original deals, and Disney surely would hope to reunite all the elements if “Legacy” proves to be a hit. Also needing to be figured out is who would produce a sequel. Sean Bailey, a producer on “Legacy,” is now Disney’s president of production.
Still, with Bailey as production head and WME-repped Kitsis and Horowitz writing more “Tron,” Disney seems to be believe in what they have.
Tron was on HDNet a while back in HD. I DVRed and I'm watching it now. So far it looks alright, but I hope they touch it up for the blu-ray.
Wait, has Tron 2 still not come out? I remember it being in development/production, like, forever.
I got a postcard in the mail for Astro Gunner. It's got some kind of code on the back, but I have no idea what it's supposed to mean.

Asking another director for help? that sure is a good sign :lol
It is not unheard of for directors to show work prints to their peers for constructive criticism. Glad the guy is not an egomaniac.Part of the reason why early Star Wars movies worked (basically all of the 70's new hollywood guys had their fingers all over the original Star Wars from Brian De Palma to John Millius) and the later ones didn't. Same reason why post LOTR Peter Jackson movies have been overly bloated and boring.
Intro scene was super cheesy
Intro scene was probably the coolest part, CG Jeff Bridges looks awful. It's got that janky CG animation. Why even do that? I mean he created the whole Tron world, so it would take one line of dialogue to say he made the avatar thing look like he does now and get rid of these creepy nonsense.
FYI, Pixar is working with the reshoots.
Yeah, Pixar is doing the same thing on Disney's new Muppet movie as well.FYI, Pixar is working with the reshoots.
I don't think they're actually doing any of the CG work though, if that's what you're suggesting, it's just some of Pixar's main guys providing feedback and ideas.

When did the Disney imprint begin issuing PG-rated movies? I thought that was the whole reason behind the creation of Touchstone Pictures: allow Disney to release non-G-rated movies without tarnishing their perfect family image...?
In late 1979, Walt Disney Productions released The Black Hole, a science-fiction film that was the studio's first production to receive a PG rating (the company, however, had already distributed its first PG-rated film, Take Down—without the Disney name visible—almost a year before the release of The Black Hole.) Over the next few years, Disney experimented with more PG-rated fare, such as the 1981 film Condorman; 1982's Tron and Tex; and 1983's Never Cry Wolf and Trenchcoat. The latter film attracted major criticism for including adult themes that were considered inappropriate for a Disney film.[3] The controversy over Trenchcoat is generally considered the catalyst that later sparked the creation of the Touchstone Pictures brand.
Started by then-Disney CEO Ron W. Miller in 1984, Touchstone's first film was Splash, a huge hit for Walt Disney Productions, grossing $68 million at the domestic boxoffice.[4] Splash included brief rear nudity on the part of star Daryl Hannah and occasional inappropriate language, earning a PG-rating. Because of its success, yet another Disney film label was started in 1990, Hollywood Pictures, with the release of Arachnophobia.
Following the success of the Disney-branded PG-13 rated Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003, and other films that in the 1980s and '90s would have been assigned to the Touchstone (or Hollywood Pictures) label, Disney has decided to weigh distribution of films more toward Disney-branded films and away from Touchstone films, though not entirely disbanding them as it is still using the Touchstone label for R and most PG-13 rated fare.[5]

Earlier this year, Steven Lisberger, the Father of Tron, mentioned that a new high definition remaster of Tron was currently in the works to be released by the end of the year to coincide with Disney's theatrical release of Tron Legacy. Since then there has oddly been no official announcement and with just over 8 weeks to go no pre-release date in sight it's beginning to look like Tron will be MIA on blu-ray this year.
Word has it that earlier this summer the original Tron was screened at one of the theme parks and was laughed at by people who had not seen the original film and mocked it for its now-outdated effects and silly attire of leotards and hockey helmets parodied by the infamous "Tron Guy." Rumor has it that some Disney execs witnessed their reactions and it made them very, very nervous.
Understandable since they've spent millions marketing their "new and improved" Tron Legacy which they hope will be embraced by a new generation of fans. Since then plans to release the original Tron on blu-ray to generate interest in the sequel seem to have been scrapped out of fear that this product of a by-gone era would backfire and turn off their vital demographic from flocking to theaters to see Tron Legacy in December.
Word has it the original Tron will not be released now until sometime next year around the time Legacy is released on DVD and Blu-ray, long after all the box office grosses for Legacy are in. Normally, studios will strategically time the release of catalog DVD and Blu-ray sales to generate hype for a franchise installment and reciprocally to give home video sales a push but this seems to mark the beginning of what could become a counter-trend for studios looking to capture a new fanbase without any expectations or preconceptions.
Could the same fear and paranoia apply to Disney's marketing plans for their eminent remake of The Black Hole? As a fan of both of these classic Disney films I am disappointed that I will not be able to enjoy seeing Tron remastered in glorious high definition before going to see Legacy but I am deeply concerned by how this could impact reception of it my millions of people who have not even seen the original film and how they could potentially regard Legacy as the defacto Tron film and shrug off the original 28 year-old film as a relic of the Atari age.
Tron was cutting-edge for its day and decades ahead of its time but like all films in retrospect is a product of the period in which it was made and should be appreciated as such for what it is and its rightful place in cinematic history. Is Disney deliberately trying to sweep memories of it under the rug to be forgotten so that Legacy will be received as the definitive start of a new franchise? The very thought of it gives me pause and sends a shudder of discomfort up my spine. It almost seems like they are trying to re-write the program.
End of Line.

Just, for gods' sakes, don't watch the CG-enhanced Young Jeff Bridges' mouth move when he's talking. It's unsettling.

Guy with the cane at the start also can't act.
Really? That song's not THAT great, folks.
Don't have to do that.

This year's most overhyped EB movie.
Just saw the original Tron...it sucked, it was like an 8 years old computer nerd wet dream, I have no idea how a generation that grew up on the internet its gonna respond to this story, the only interesting thing about legacy are the visuals tbh.
Not excited at all for this movie.
Banning me wont suddenly make the movie good or anything.
Asking another director for help? that sure is a good sign
Yawn.
The chick looks hot, the movie still looks like crap.

20 years ago Tron has some pretty great effects, today that cgi face looks completely ridiculous, that's some Terminator salvation level of shit.
I'll just pirate the soundtrack and wait for the R5.
I have never tried to hide my hate for this movie so I don't really see the point of that post GR.

My point is to laugh about how you've kept coming back over the past 7 months to say the same thing over and over.

Yeah I actually make a point to enter this thread and say something negative about the movie every once in a while, gonna keep doing it until the movie comes out.
What is that pic suppose to be?
Tron 2.0 :heartbeatI kept hoping an Xbox 360 version would come out. :'(

First movie ever where I'm going to see it for the soundtrack alone.
Who did the cgi in this? It's awful. Like something out of the 90's.

Good. Gooooood.
This movie is shaping up to be FANTASTIC.
I don't really see.
it looks like a video game level cgi.probably because trying to shoehorn that into the dialogue somewhere would sound hokey. and yeah, most people will never even notice.
seriously why not just say he aged himself via the programing to fit current bridges?!? cut out the need for the cgi and it wouldnt look shitty. it'd take a single line!
I still like the CG in the original Tron, so I don't see this being an issue for me.

I can't imagine anything more obscure in Disney's archives.
I can't imagine anything more obscure in Disney's archives.
They're also doing a remake of The Black Hole, with the same director as Tron Legacy.
Black Hole is way more obscure than Tron. Tron had a lot more longevity and impact on popular culture.
Call me when this gets a sequel:

I disagree. Everyone I know who has no idea what Tron is still knows what The Black Hole is. Anecdotal evidence, sure, but in my experience I have a hard time finding anybody who has actually seen Tron.
Tron has been referenced constantly since it came out. I felt like I already saw it long before I actually did because of all the pop culture references. Tron guy, light cycle parodies etc.Black Hole is way more obscure than Tron. Tron had a lot more longevity and impact on popular culture.

I don't know, I've seen Tron referenced a lot, whereas I don't think I've ever seen The Black Hole referenced in anything.

Also, I like the fact that real-world Jeff Bridges and digital-world Jeff Bridges look so different. It's way more interesting that way.
solo step your trolling game up. plus I know some people may not know what tron is but a lot do from personal experience, i've never heard of the black hole btw
nerds!irony!
Okay as somebody who knows nothing about the original movie other than that bike-wall minigame, what is so good about this franchise? Besides Jeff Bridges of course.
It sounds like Mass Effect meets Inception to me, and I love it.

Confirms everyone suspicions about Rinzler.
What did you think of Human After All?
It's a film score, and one of the best this year by far. Granted I don't know much about the genre, but it sounds like it takes the best elements of film scoring, Justice's Cross, and past elements of Daft Punk and combines it into a very tight, succinct experience.
I refuse to read anything about this movie. This isn't a critic's film. Either you've seen Tron and you get it, or you haven't seen it/don't get it. Simple, really.Beast Raban, I hope you're right. I'm really looking forward to it. The theater 5 minutes' from my house just got a 3D Imax screen, to coincide with this movie.
I've got Interstella 5555: The 5tory of 5ecret 5tar 5ystem on DVD. :rockMe too! It's crazy stuff.

Divorcing a score from the movie and then picking it apart is a pretty dumb thing to do. It's a movie score, it's meant to be played in conjunction with certain images and sound effects. That's doesn't necessarily mean that some film scores aren't good for listening on their own, but it isn't the point. All that ultimately matters is whether it works in the movie or not.
I fucking pumped as shit for Tron Legacy. I really don't give a shit about the story. I just want to see some awesome visuals, hear a great score and believe once again that Tron-like stuff actually happens inside computers.
Here's the thing about the soundtrack. Some of it is generic crap, but some of it is actually really fucking good. I suspect the movie will be the exact same way.
Is that how it normally works? They're still credited as composing every track. And I thought I'd read something recently from the director alluding to their insistence to do it all themselves, but that may have just been a generality.

I heard this too. That they basically dedicated the past two years to this or something.

Last night I dreamed that I saw this film and I didn't like it very much. I decided Star Trek 2009 > this. WHAT DOES IT MEAN ???
It means you don't exist to me, anymore.
so apparently this movie is trash. nostalgia fegs annihilated.
something something inception, ha ha haYou'll have to go deeper before I laugh.
Overall I loved it and I think its one of my favorite movies of all time already.

by that measure, so are ninja turtle movies
MANCHILDREN.
it doesn't even have good eye candy (the cg jeff bridges is the new spawn) or music (daft punk as brought to you by harry gregson-william's quaalude-addled apprentices). it is a shit movie. it starts out with mountain dew, throws us a red herring with the encom staff, goes into space capoeira scenes that could only appeal to the sentai fancrowd, tosses in some pod racing, a couple utterly predictable reveals and plot twists, a pixie-haired hollywood moeblob, some hammy tard doing his most mediocre impersonation of a neon-lit malcolm mcdowell, and ends with a poster shot and the adorapixie sniffing tony hawk's hair.
Yeah this movie was pretty bad. Looked cool (3d I thought seemed really well done in the Grid), but terrible dialogue and writing.
Take Avatar, replace the Ferngully tree-hugging and furry-batting with Jeff Bridges Digi-Buddha Linux nonsense and Power Rangers battling, and then set the whole thing in the Blade Runner universe. Also make it really, really boring. Actually, make it nothing like Avatar, except for the sci-fi and the 3D gimmick and the shitty haircut of the protagonist.
Edit: I'd also put Tron Legacy is the same category as Speed Racer, in that it works better as an audio/visual experience than a movie.
To the saps who paid cash money to see this: rate these movies using >
Star Wars Attack of the Clones
Eragon
Avatar
Tron Legacy
Prince Of Persia
Million Dollar Baby
So why did they fill the movie with so much boring plot and talking heads? It certainly could have been a good audio/visual flick.
In my opinion it was. Even the talking head scenes looked pretty good, for what they were.
Best scene was by far the Zeus club scene.
it's boring to watch! it makes me feel exhausted! i'd rather be actually MAD at the movie than passing out from ennui and weariness at the pervasive cliches.
I told you guys this was gonna be complete shit, you should have listened to my troll instead of wasting money on this.

Tron fans quickly went from "OMG this movie is going to amazing." to "OMG if have some nostalgia for the first movie you may be able to tolerate the insults to your intelligence for 2 hours." Good jon guys!

Just watched the movie and I'm really confused because I'm really not sure what was so bad about it. The audio/visual side was obviously impressive but the story wasn't offensive or full of holes as far as I could see. It wasn't anything ambitious, but it wasn't full of filler and horrible exposition like Avatar for example. I went into this not knowing anything about the first movie other then that it involved going into a computer somehow but maybe it's a lot different than that and fails to live up to expectations somehow?
The only possible reason I can see for making a Tron sequel is to use it as a vehicle for making a bunch of surreptitious sly computer science and CG in-jokes and references. Like, slip in recreations of images from a bunch of classic 80s SIGGRAPH papers or something. Is there anything like that?

The funny thing about all the nerds saying "Let us just enjoy Tron for what it is!" are a lot of the same people who were in the pitchfork mob against Transformers when the defenders were saying the same thing.
Tron >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Transformers

Was I right or was I right?
EB, you're so predictable.
There were a lot of things that weren't really explained about the isomorphs though. Like why are they "perfect"? Why would they be able to change humanity? Is it just that they give humanity a chance to see some new being formed and understand it's creation and whatnot? I think the writers genuinely forgot about all that.i don't think anyone really cares. I certainly don't :lol
And I don't really get what would happen when Clu takes the army out of the program. Would they still have their armor or weapons or anything? I'd imagine they would have regular human bodies which makes feeding them and providing shelter and all that a bit of a challenge for an army of that size. Maybe they'd just cause a boom in hobo statistics? Another thing I think the writers probably forgot to handle.
Neither thing really hurts it though since the story is not really what you watch it for.

I was contacted by someone that worked on the shoot for this DVD Extra. That this person's experience on set gave him, it will be made up of at least 3 scenes.
One includes Bruce Boxleitner (as Alan) and Dan Shor (as Ram). Turns out that "Ram" was apparently running the FLYNN LIVES campaign and he's frantically destroying all of that data and files, as Alan confronts him. Dan apparently utters the line, "Why did Kevin give you the cool name" - which means to my way of thinking that after Flynn came out of the Grid, he sought out the human soul of Ram and befriended him and started calling him RAM - you know - some geek that wrote that Actuarial Program that helped people plan for the future. I sorta love that. And love that the kindness Flynn showed this lowly geek, apparently created a gung ho champion for the life and memory of Kevin Flynn.
Another has Quora showing up to ENCOM and getting acousted by the press because she's riding Sam's Ducati - and states that she just spoke with Kevin Flynn, yesterday!
The last scene that was shot in this mini-shoot involved text screens where you see the Father & Son... The Dillingers stating that everything is going as planned.
That particular bit has me giddy beyond fucking words.
Now how do I know this is true? I've got the call sheets, location maps... oh, and these
Bringing back RAM is fucking awesome. The Dillinger bit too.
It says the Dillinger scene is just text of him and his son talking.

Maybe I'll watch this in Japanese without English subtitles and it will /seem/ more challenging and complex.

Also, OK, hear me out: we got the "complete edition" of Daft Punk's score last month... Why not a special edition of the movie where the ONLY change is that it uses modern deepfake tech to fix CLU2?
I didn't have too much of a problem with how Clu looked because it kinda made sense with him in the virtual world. But the flashback scene with young Flynn was pretty bad when they showed his face.:EXACTAMUNDO.gif
