Not sure if you have ever heard of the “paralysis of choice” but it’s a marketing related term. They did some marketing tests decades ago around having large selections of jam in grocery stores, and found that there is a point where the returns of more selection not only diminish but actually reverse!
In other words, if you have too much choice, it just becomes too complicated and people will choose nothing. I think there’s some form of this that happens with online dating for women, so they use arbitrary rules to. Narrow it down to something manageable, whether that’s height, pictures with a pet, income, age, race or dick size.
Theoretically, everyone knows this is not exactly a great way to figure out who’s compatible, but what else do you do?
As a guy I always just found it depressing, because you’d send out a million messages and get like 5 replies from the women you were least interested in. But at the same time I could go to the park and strike up a conversation with some single mom my kid was playing with and have even odds of setting up a date. And I didn’t have to sit on my couch obsessing over tinder like a taco.
