If I had to hazard a guess, drawing pictures of women having sex with horsemen was actually what he really wanted to do all along, but made awesome comics for a while because the bills needed to be paid. It's depressing, because the guy's clearly got a load of talent, not just artistic ability but also in creating great worlds and stories.

Johji Manabe, who made some of my favorite comics like Outlanders and Caravan Kidd, also started drawing porn like a decade ago. At least he's still making actual comics....Shirow doesn't even do that.

Even Johji Manabe's mainstream manga didn't shy away from regularly showcasing sex scenes, but everything he's done in the past 8 years has been straight up porn. He should just go ahead and make Boukun Tyrano-san a full-length series.
