Manilla Road - So far I've only covered their debut. Stellar stuff.
Death - Skeptical giving them another shot but I quite liked Leprosy. I've found that car speakers work really well for death metal. Although I'm not the biggest death metal fan this helped me appreciate it a lot more. I liked it! I was also really mad when I listened to it and ended up challenging my anger into the music. Very therapeutic. Although I liked it didn't rid of my overall complaints with the genre: that it's too repetitive, there's little song variety. Definitely pushes me to try more melodeath though!
SaxonWhile Saxon's debut LP, self titled Saxon, was a good hard rock album it wasn't heavy metal. Wheels of Steel / Denim and Leather more than make up for this. These albums are rock hard. Very, very heavy metal and two classics.
Girlschool - So far I like them.
Demon Bitch - Easily my favorite modern band so far. They're lo-fi trad metal and they kick ass. Listen to Hellfriends.
Uncle Acid - Good stoner metal. My introduction to doom metal outside of this thread. Like!
Venom - What an utterly surprising record in Black Metal. You can tell Slayer's influences here as well as where the Black Metal label came from. The cover is depicting Satan and yet the actual content is far from Satanic. Real surprise.
Loving the genre. Only complaint is that death metal is too popular in modern metal. Someone put on to the local metal radio bloc and it was mostly death metal. It just lacks variety. I have no idea why people just want death metal, it makes no sense. Like it all you want but why does it have to encapsulate so much of the genre? Fuck.
I also don't like death metal fans from what I've seen for the most part. Like this ridiculous article on Noisey. International Slayer Day but it's a bad day because...Slayer isn't really Satanist?
Given vocalist Tom Araya’s avowed Catholic faith, any reference to Satanism or apostasy inadvertently falls a bit flat, and one wonders whether we sort of… wasted… that day on a band who are thoroughly iconic and objectively sick, but don’t actually give much of a toss about the Dark Lord.
