Some shots of this game could be easily injected into UE3 games and nobody would notice.

The Gametrailers footage on the site this morning is pretty insane.  It looks much better in motion than those above shots would suggest.

Also glad to hear that they're doing most of the cutscenes in realtime, unlike the other games in the series.

too bad this series will never have a great fighting engine to accompany the amazing locales.

such is the way it must be when catering to the casual action gaming crowd.

I wouldn't want to play GOWIII if it had the same gameplay mechanics as Bayonetta or DMC.

here's the footage btw:

http://www.gametrailers.com/episode/gametrailers-tv/85&ch=1&sd=0?ep=85&ch=1&sd=0

And...

Bayonetta le owned. :lol

The game is pour l'otaku. :rofl

At least this developer is consistent. They won't release a shitty rushed sequel. Other developers should learn.  :-\

I was gonna say, this is the first time I've actually wanted to play a God of War game

Game is great and really fun but it's exclusively for and bought by the Otaku market

Just went out this morning to run a few errands and stopped by the local store and put a preorder down for GOW3.

Bad Company 2, Just Cause 2, and GOW3....should be a good month.

Seriously, this game is going to own.
dat textures :drool
seriously? the game looks good but the textures look crappy in those shots.  it's probably because the camera is too close or the specular maps are overdone or something but they look too fuzzy or washed out.

Uh, and? If it actually runs at 720p, it's in the upper tier of console games by default.

The developers were hyping it to be native 1080p.

They even tried it:
"We evaluated 960*1080 and decided that we preferred the look of 1280*720 along with our AA. If you force your tv to 1080, the game will upscale and run just fine. But it will just be upscaling the 720 image.

As far as the back of the box is concerned we tried not to be deceptive. But I guess ended up just making it more confused! Sorry about that."

I never even knew it was hyped to be 1080p. I'm just happy the game isn't running sub-HD to be honest.

Sounds like when the 1080p thing was in full swing, till it got fucked in the ass.

Weirdly enough Sony's own games tend to be native 720p (aside from Ratchet's weird resolution or some of their PSN games) then upscale to 1080, its not any thing new anymore.

Its 3rd parties having the crazy sub-hd resultions

noted

i thought they already throttled back to 720p way earlier when the 1080p thing didn't work out.

interesting that they tried it with the made up resultion they added to their sdk

Its 60 with some weapons and in some areas, and 30 in some areas and weapons.

Motion blur makes it mighty smooth.

Second opinion in the review also gave this one a 10.  :o

And there aren't many native 1080p games out there. Just be glad they're at least displaying this in HD, unlike Halo 3 and FFXIII X360. Both games almost matching Wii resolution.

It's a GOW game, so it usually rests comfortably at around 30fps and occasionally lurches wildely from 25-60 fps

Seems like massive strides were made on the technology front with this (from the demo).

Smoother framerate, superior lighting, object motion blur, improved texture work, and more.

I think the game looks great and I know I'm going to play it but the God of War games were never ones that I felt satisfied with buying them at release. I'll probably get it around summertime or maybe I'll just rent it in few weeks.
I'm just renting this one. I bought both GoW 1, 2, and Chains of Olympus on release dates. With the GoW games, once you finish the single player there's not much else to do. The Gametrailers review said it clocks in at around 9 hours. Still the attention to detail on the gore is unbelievably impressive. Some of the best looking spilled entrails and eye gouging I've ever seen.

Some detail lost in the backgrounds, it seems.
Are you serious?  It seems pretty clear to me that, in that case, they've simply CHANGED the background.  I somehow doubt that it was changed for performance reasons.

The textures, anti-aliasing, and particles in that shot are all much better in the final game.

I'm certain that Bayonetta wipes the floor with God of War in terms of combat.

But Bayonetta was sorely, sorely lacking in presentation. Its story and voice acting were ludicrously bad. Also, the level design left a lot to be desired.

I would love a game that combined the strengths of both of these games into one orgasmic package.
