Yeah, new Spartacus is much much better this season. He doesn't just give lengthy angst filled speeches anymore.

started Twin Peaks last night (I watched the pilot). It's good but omg the cheese level is almost suffocating brehs. It feels almost like a dark parody of small town cop shows, especially with that grand piano theme during emotional scenes lol. The 90s *shudder*

But I really like the atmosphere, seems like a good cast, and the the music is good despite the cheese

Just gotta let the quirkiness settle in. The cheese is intentional, underneath it's a very well-written show and the series finale is completely what the fuck.

I would suggest watching the first half of the second season and then skipping right to the finale.  The show begins to lose focus but finishes strong.

I've been meaning to watch Twin Peaks but still haven't gotten around to it.

I know it's a landmark show but I still don't know how I'll enjoy it through the prism of late 80s/early 90s network tv cheese. Although Northern Exposure's probably the closest reference point for that (though obviously quite different) and that is one of my favorite shows ever.

So far Twin Peaks is half good show, half bad (stylized) soap opera. Really don't know what to make of it thus far. The characters are nice, I love how alive the town is, but the general plot kind of teeters to various levels of cheese and I can't tell whether it's parody or just...bad.

It's intentional.  Just roll with it.  At first it's kinda jarring, but after a while it helps with the atmosphere in the series.

I don't care if it's intentional, I just didn't enjoy it all that much. But I think Lynch is just too weird for me in general (although I have yet to see Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive).

I watched a few snippets and one full episode of that.  I gotta say it was kind of jarring, with the shipping and their parents showing up and the references to continuity.  Not that updated and fleshed-out kids stuff isn't a huge thing, but for Hanna-Barbara characters I'm only really used to seeing either the terrible, cheap originals or the freaked-out Adult Swim reboots, not a serious attempt to improve the basic idea.

Seconded on liking Adventure Time but just not feeling Regular Show.

word of warning though on children's it looks like the first season is the edited one. rather than the uncensored 5 minute episodes they cut out the naughtier humor and smushed them together into 10 minute blocks.  It's not as good as the original uncensored stuff.  I don't know how to find that other than it was on the DVDs.

i gotta say that i agree with you but i really enjoyed the show and i'll probably rewatch it from the beginning.  i shares DNA with my other recent favorite kids show Gravity Falls though it lacks the surreal humor of that little slice of amazing

EDIT: I still don't see why Children's Hospital gets so much love. I used to watch it all the time cause Adult Swim was my go to when I was doing homework late at night, I still don't see what makes it so special.

Aside from the fact that that the comedy fits my sensibilities, it definitely helps to have had to sit through episodes of Grey's Anatomy with a partner.

Scooby Doo incorporated is a good show. It's modern without being overly ironic but it still retains its sense of being a cartoon with cartoon sensibilities.

what in the hell is Bates Motel even about?

It doesn't seem to know what it wants to be.  fucked up family drama, conspiracy thriller about a town with a shadow economy, an investigation show, a noir.

it just veers wildly all over the place.

i'm going to give it a few more episodes but sheesh.  It just seems like the initial outlay for the Bates name was dumb if they weren't going to do anything worthwhile with it

Just wrapped Supernatural Season 4. Wow. Boys really screw the pooch. I like the beginning of the angel/demon parallels, and how they're each self-serving factions with no guaranteed knowledge of whether or not the being at the apex of their religion is really who they think it is, or even if that entity exists. Faith. Ruby's character arc was well-handled. Lots of good side characters, too.

Some dickhead rented the first half of Season 5 from the rental store, so I'm on unwilling reprieve for a few days.

Also I started Game of Thrones.  It's pretty awesome so far, and the most interesting thing about it is for a big sword and shit epic the best characters so far are a dwarf and a blonde girl.

Yeah, the 5 year long seasons are part of the world. How it works I think is supposed to be explained in the seventh and last book (the fifth book came out a couple years ago).

The dwarf Tyrion and Arya Stark are probably the most likable characters. Blond girl Daenerys and her hubby are pretty awesome too but she does get a bit annoying in the second season.

So far it hasn't fully been explained, but in general it relates to the series name: A Song Of Ice and Fire. The seasons are largely unstable due to a magical lack of balance between the two. That's about all I can go into without spoilers/lore.

BTW don't google anything bro, there are spoilers everywhere. Post your questions in the GoT thread and Triumph, Himu, and I will help

my nicca Crixus damn. Epic episode. I loved the Animaus homage/quote, and seeing Crixus depart from Spartacus was legit sad. Damn, these characters are awesome. Obviously we all know how the story ends, and I remember reading in like 8th grade about Crixus splitting from Spartacus. I don't remember how the Spartacus film handled it though.

I just watched the first three episodes of Plebs, and it's pretty funny! It's like Workaholics taking place in anachronistic ancient Rome.

Quote
"Plebs" is described as "a thoroughly modern comedy in an ancient setting." Rome is traditionally imagined as the home of emperors and senators, generals and gladiators, a dignified theatre of pomp and ceremony. But what about the little guys, the wasters - new to the big city, stuck in office jobs, unable to get the girls?

Plebs follows three desperate young men from the suburbs as they try to get laid, hold down jobs and climb the social ladder in the big city - a city that happens to be Ancient Rome.

The show focuses on Marcus, Stylax and their lazy slave with an attitude problem, Grumio. There's also the boys' ruthless boss, Flavia - an expert manipulator with a private life that's the stuff of legend. Unlikely to be immortalised in the annals or memorialised in a frieze, Marcus, Stylax and Grumio are essentially just a bunch of Plebs. And whether they're wearing togas, or skinny jeans, desperate young men in any period of history are essentially cut from the same cloth...

Here are the episode titles so far:

Quote
1x01 -- Mar 25, 2013 -- The Orgy
 1x02 -- Mar 25, 2013 -- The Gladiator
 1x03 -- Apr 01, 2013 -- The Erotic Vase
 1x04 -- Apr 08, 2013 -- The Herpes Cat
 1x05 -- Apr 15, 2013 -- Bananae
 1x06 -- Apr 22, 2013 -- Title_TBA

Episode 3 had cousin fucking as it's "B" story
