Wonder how they managed to write around Christopher Evan Welch's death. Apparently that last episode was the last he filmed before he died. No more Peter Gregory :'(.

That was the best ep of Silicon Valley yet. Sort of changed the whole dynamic of the show.

Last episode with Peter Greggory. :-\

Woops. Missed this. But, yeah.  :-\

Finally finished True Detective.  The first five or so episodes are the meat of the show.  It kind of loses steam when the interview part stops.  Also Woody Harrelson getting the baddest girls on the Bayou  :beli

The last two episodes were weak.  The payoff wasn't up to the task of the setup.

I liked 7 when it aired because I assumed it was a setup episode for the finale.  When the finale ended up being a glorified chase scene, it made me retroactively not like 7 so much.

In hindsight, I've come to like the finale more because Carcosa sure is an awesome looking location.  Where the fuck did the find that place?  I want to go there and take pictures.

The ending was pretty much what I expected.  I think the structure and the supernatural references gave a different impression of what the show was going to be for a lot of people (there were apparently a ton of weird theories going around about the Yellow King and stuff, rather than him just being a crazy dude who killed people).

It was very L.A. Confidential.  Or I guess LA Confidential.

I should've emphasized that I wasn't one of those people that was watching the show way too closely and expecting really weird things from it.  I just found the ending deeply unsatisfying--I can't really say what I expected, but I didn't really find it, I dunno, filling compared to what had come before.

I thought the finale was really good, but it simply impossible to top what happened in episode four imo.
spoiler (click to show/hide)
I like the fact that they didn't "win." They didn't bring down the Tuttles, and while they got some of them there is no happy ending. My problem is that I thought one or even both detectives should have died.

I seem to be the only one who wasn't that impressed with the shoot out in episode 4? I mean, from all the praise and hooplah, I was expecting something that on par with the unedited scene that's in Oldboy. I had to google what shoot out that got rave reviews when I finished the series because it wasn't that impressive to me when I first saw it.

I didn't expect the show to subvert this, either, which definitely soured a little of my impression of the show. It's a show that flirts with betraying its genre trappings and then firmly backpedals into them at the end.

As for where they found "Carcosa", there's tons of little subterranean forts all around the Louisianan coast from wars long ago.

I think in the end it works and this is a case of expectations. I'm thinking season 2 will be better because people will have tempered their expectations. Personally, the merging of supernatural and reality appeals to me and gave the finale a mysterious edge, even if the final revelation was cheesy.

Haven't watched Community since season 3. I loved the first two seasons. But it was quickly losing steam as it had no idea what to do with its characters. Still, it is a bit sad. It is like all the single camera comedy shows are getting pooped on and there's a multi camera resurgence which makes barf.

It definitely had trouble charting out directions for its characters. But its probably the only non-animated style show on TV that could get away with things like this. I'll miss that from Harmon.

Disagree. It won't be hard to nab a noteworthy actor, especially now that the show has proven itself. Brad Pitt has discussed joining the show, and while I'm not big on him as an actor this could be a role that shakes him from his recent mediocrity.

24: Live Another Day

Never seen 24 before and this premiere did a great job keeping newbies like me up to task and not confused.  I really enjoy the structure, and I'm going to be torrenting season 1 tonight. The structure and all the subplots going on all at once keeps it relatively involving and endlessly intriguing. I want more.

Fargo

Best show on tv right now next to Mad Men for me. Makes me want to read the book and re-watch the movie.

Mad Men

Catching up on this season because the premiere caught me off guard since I don't watch AMC anymore. So far, I think it's back on track after the slightly off second half of last season. Given this is the final season, I'm getting pretty anxious because for so long, Mad Men has been consistently the best show on tv for me, and I'm going to hate watching it go.

I would pretty much agree with this completely.

Something trashy can also be entertaining like you said. Although yeah its a little weird when I've read about people who use House of Cards as an analogy to real politics. I like British version more because it knows what it is more and leans into a bit a better imo.

It's the first real political show like that over here that I can think of. Similar for Veep. The West Wing was kinda a different beast. And nobody but me watched Boss.

I think Veep has distanced and differentiated itself well, but if you were ever hooked into the British shows like Yes, Prime/Minister, The Thick of It and original House of Cards it's not as earth shaking.

Similar to how some people treat British comedy styles coming over.

Mr. Robinson
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
These two might not be the end of the world:
Quote
Mr. Robinson is an upcoming American sitcom starring Craig Robinson as a music teacher at a middle school.[1] NBC placed a six-episode order for the series on on January 6, 2014.[2] Mark Cullen and Robb Cullen will be the showrunners.
Was in part created by Greg Daniels of The Office/Parks and Rec fame.
Quote
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, formerly known as Tooken, is an upcoming American comedy television series created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. A 13-episode first season has been ordered by NBC, which will premiere in fall 2014.[1]

Cast[edit]
Ellie Kemper as Kimmy Schmidt, who escapes from a doomsday cult and starts life over in New York[2]
Tituss Burgess as Titus, a gay, larger-than-life singer who works as a robot in Times Square[2]
Sara Chase as Cyndee, Kimmy's best friend from the cult[3]
Lauren Adams as Gretchen, a 10-year member of the cult, who believes everything she was told[3]
Ellie Kemper was Erin on The Office.

This one probably not:
Quote
Undateable is an upcoming American comedy television series. It is expected to air midseason on NBC as part of the 2013–14 American television season and is slated to premiere on May 29, 2014.[1][2] The multi-camera comedy was created by Adam Sztykiel and is based on the book Undateable: 311 Things Guys Do That Guarantee They Won't Be Dating Or Having Sex by Ellen Rakieten and Anne Coyle

When Danny agrees to let Justin move in with him, he doesn't realize that he will inherit Justin's friends in the deal. Danny nicknames the romantically challenged group "The Undateables" and, believing he is the ultimate player, sets out to teach them all he knows about "the game of love".

Meanwhile on Starz...

Quote
Power is an upcoming drama television series on Starz created by Courtney Kemp Agboh and produced by the rapper Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. It is expected to begin airing on television on June 7, 2014.

The series follows James St. Patrick, nicknamed "Ghost", owner of a popular New York City nightclub. In addition, he is a major player in one of the city's biggest illegal drug networks.
