another unsatisfying game today. Memphis scrapes out a comeback win against a team whose only two good players are at about half their normal effectiveness. Del Negro bungled the endgame in shameful fashion too. It was really hard to watch. So after all, we get 2 game 7s but i'm only moderately excited for either of 'em.

The West 2nd round is our best hope for some actual good series' I think.

hey, they gave up on the Mavs last year. The Mavs are better than these Nuggets but it wouldn't be the weirdest thing ever for the Lakers to roll over. Bynum is clearly moody as fuck.

beat-up Celtics making the Sixers look like the Suns :fbm

With the bum ankle, Ray Allen is a liability I'm afraid. Pierce and Bradley are also very limited. Which leaves Rondo and KG to carry the whole offense.

Hollinger MVP talk - Kobe named on 106 ballots, Wade on 4. Sorry, but that's kind of a joke.

Someone else mentioned that LeBron received one FIFTH PLACE vote :lol

Let's try and come up with a credible list of MVP candidates that ends with LeBron in 5th

Chris Paul
Durant
Wade
Kobe
LeBron?

Anyone who could make a list like that needs their credentials revoked immediately. Like Wade is more responsible for the Heat's success than LeBron?

I think Pau Gasol is saving his legs for the Olympics.

Or just game seven.

I wonder if he'd make that comment about an American Olympian (rhetorical question).

Anyone who could make a list like that needs their credentials revoked immediately.

Reminds me of the 1947 MVP vote when a voter left Ted Williams off his ballot. Hell, Williams only received three first place votes despite leading the league in OPS by 220 points over Joe DiMaggio. Three first place votes and Eddie Joost, who hit .206 and led the league in strikeouts, received two first place votes. Imagine a world in which LeBron gets three first place votes and Luol Deng gets two.

I was looking up some basketball stuff on wikipedia and came across this gem

Quote
Altercations with Earl Strom

According to Darryl Dawkins's autobiography, Bavetta was officiating an NBA game during the mid-1970s between the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Nets with Earl Strom as his partner for that game.[16] Bavetta overruled Strom on a crucial last-second personal foul call against the Nets, which would have been a victory for the 76ers.[16] When the game ended and players were walking to their respective locker rooms, the door to the referees' locker room flew open and Bavetta came staggering out.[16] His uniform was allegedly ripped and he was wearing a big welt over his eye, running to get away from Strom.[16] Strom stepped out into the hallway and hollered after Bavetta, "You'll take another one of my fucking calls again, right, you motherfucker?"[16] Strom was later fined for the incident.[17]
Bavetta had another altercation with Strom when Strom tried to choke Bavetta during halftime of an NBA game in 1989 for allegedly siding with the home crowd. Strom reportedly apologized two weeks later.

A lot of people are very up on the Celtics at the moment because they seem to be gelling and playing their best basketball and without Bosh against them Garnett would be huge potentially.

I am soooooo excited about that Bosh injury. It would really even the scales a lot over 7 games.

Still don't think the Cs could beat the Spurs of course, I'm not totally insane. But they can for sure beat the Sixers and they can maybe beat the Heat if Bosh is out for most of the series. That means more minutes for Joel Anthony and Turiaf! :drool

Also, KG appears to have sneaked in a trip to that mad doctor in Germany.

I think the Sixers drag this series out, though.  They seem to be keeping up with the C's on both ends.

The Heat will still beat the Pacers in 5 games.  Then they'll beat the Celtics in...6, I think.

But honestly, I don't see anyone fucking with the Spurs this year.  They look scary good.

Not sure why, other than star power. Thunder should win fairly handily, especially with the Lakers gassed and playing 4 games in 6 days (at least, including a back-to-back)

I think playoff basketball is different from regular season basketball. So yeah in that instance. The degree to which they beat the lakers over this series will say something about the squad. I'm just curious to see that process and gauge their evolution.

I just think 1) the Thunder've got plenty of playoff wins under their belt, 2) the Lakers aren't that good and have sucked in the playoffs so far this year and last year, 3) the Thunder are shit-hot

I mean, what more do you want. The Thunder have the #2 offense; the Lakers are at #13. The defenses are fairly even. Thunder will win in 5 or 6 at most.

I'm not really arguing that the Lakers are better. I don't even really think I'm arguing anything other than I want to be impressed by the Thunder, and if they handily beat the Lakers then I'm impressed. If its a struggle then I'm less impressed. They are killing the Lakers tonight so that's a good sign.

plus - The Thunder have chemistry, the Lakers have anti-chemistry, the Thunder are young and laugh at this schedule, and they have home court, while the Lakers are old and tired...Brooks has the edge over Mike Brown too, surely...it's really hard to see how the Lakers take this.
