I think nearly everybody thought the Thunder had an offense that was capable of playing at this level. But I don't think most people (Ibaka aside) thought they were capable of it from the defensive end. They really closed out on the shooters on San Antonio with a speed that no other team has really been able to show.

Like I said, for me that was the NBA finals probably. It's hard to see Miami or Boston beating either of those two teams in a series. Stranger things have happened though I guess.

Like a team that had won 20 straight losing 4 straight?

The Celtics absolutely have a shot against the Thunder.  If there's one thing the Celtics have shown, they play at the same level as their competition.

Doesn't mean I think they'll win though.  If its Celtics/Thunder, Thunder in 6.

So, if 94.2% of teams up 2-0 advance, it means cumulative probability of OKC-Bos Finals was 0.3% -- that's 3-in-1,000 -- on Thursday.

I don't hate any other sports, but I get far more out of the only one I do watch (basketball) because I put the time I do have into it. When I watch the World Cup or the Olympics or something, I feel like such a fucking tourist. I actually LISTEN to the commentators and learn things!

I used to love football but now I despise everything about it.  I guess it probably has something to do with the 5hr parking lot parties outside my dorm on every saturday.  The whole football culture is just so stupid.

nope. I mean, I messed about as a kid like everyone else but I went to a rugby school so never played seriously. And I wore glasses back then so I could never play rugby. Which is great, 'cause I still have all my teeth unlike most of my friends from back then.

As entertainment, I despised sports. I used to hate Saturdays in Britain 'cause the tv was nothing but soccer and horse racing. I was into books, mostly. This whole NBA thing is some kind of adult-onset disease, like diabetes  :lol

BTW, you're totally right about MLB champions, Smooth. If any American sport wanted to rationally crown its champions in the way European football leagues do, it's baseball with its 162-game season. Basketball and hockey have their best-of-7 series playoffs, too, along with 82 game seasons, but hockey playoff OT is uniquely amazing and basketball has so many possessions the best team wins almost all of the time anyway. The Phillies were undoubtedly the best team in baseball last year, despite losing in the first round of the playoffs. That stuff doesn't happen in other American sports.

Ah yeah I thought about that, but I figured I'd keep it to professional sports. That playoff format is just meant for maximum...madness. Sorry.

The only way it is not 'professional' is that they don't pay the players straight-up as far as I can see but yeah.

Jeff Van Gundy said haters need to get off Spoelstra's back because he's doing a great coaching job. And if there's anybody that knows about great coaching, it's Jeff Van Gundy; he's had a lot of it used against him over the years.

Van Gundy is always harping on about things like refs and player behavior in certain cases. It's bizarre he won't turn that critical eye towards his own peers.

Equally as bad as the coaching though has been the GM work.

Bibby, Battier, Miller, etc have all been blown calls.

Yea, Miami has dropped the ball as an organization, not just as a team. It's sometime hard to even call them a team when you see three guys doing nearly everything.

I don't see how flopping is any more egregious than flailing as if you were going to shoot 50 feet from the basket at the slightest contact, say.

JVG's complaining about flopping has a little whiff of insulted macho pride about it. I think sometimes it's a flop, sometimes it's a charge, very occasionally it's too close to call and you call a jump ball. It's not a sport that allows for perfect refereeing decisions every time.

The only thing that's worse than that is the idiot media who want charges eliminated. Can't believe Bob Ryan of all people was on PTI the other day saying charges should be eliminated.

SO FUCKING HYPE FOR THIS UGLY-ASS GAME

Who knows what will happen? The Celtics make no sense. Their offense is incompetent....but somehow they manage to put up 30-plus point quarters on the Heat before dropping back to 12. They are the worst rebounding team in the world, but outboarded the Heat by 10 in the last game. They are just somehow - BARELY - getting the job done, like John McClane.

When did basketball fans start chanting asshole and bullshit?  Sadly, it's not just limited to hicktowns.  Both Boston and New York have been guilty of this.  People shouldn't be allowed to be fuckwads just because they bought tickets.

Also, the MVP chants for non-MVPS are fucking annoying but Lakers fans are completely to blame for that trend.

Get the strong feeling that LeBron is gonna play all 48 and end up floating around the perimeter exhausted in the 4th again. Wade really needs to pick up the fucking baton at some point. What else can LeBron do without help?

He is the baddest man on the planet but no-one can reasonably expect him to carry them all the way. He is getting a bit of a breather due to Pierce being in foul trouble/playing like shit.

I think this is still totally winnable for the Celtics but KG is off despite Rondo being amazing. Likely will go down to the last 2 mins again.

technically you're not supposed to touch the ball after it goes through. KG caught it and threw it at Battier a bit too hard I think. Ridiculous. This shit actually fired the Celtics up though, seen it many times :)
