KJ and Hondo really gave it their all, but they just couldn't hold off Dwayne Johnson and the Miami Thunder.

Glad the Heat won despite all my constant bitching about them all season long. If you asked me at the beginning of the season who I wanted to see in the finals it would have been thunder versus the Heat. My basketball brain says Thunder in 6 but I think the Heat matchup up better against them than they did the Spurs so I legit think the Heat have a chance.

When you look at PER during the playoffs, the Thunder and Heat match-up closely.

Lebron and Durant have been great.

James 31.25
Durant 27.97

Westbrook and Wade have essentially played the exact same
Wade 22.59
Westbrook 22.49

And Bosh and Ibaka although not similar as players sort of balance each other out.
Ibaka 20.45
Bosh  21.39

The problem is the Thunder have Harden  (23.69) who has been the 5th best player per wise in the playoffs and the heat really have no answer here. The heat need a 4th guy to perform consistently in this series and they haven't shown they have that guy all year.

Looks like a lot of folks are changing their positions again now that Bosh is looking good and LeBron choke concerns have eased. There may also be a large element of 'team I saw last looks best' there I suspect... but let's face it, it isn't THAT hard to beat Boston in the shape they were in. The best team the Heat faced was probably Indiana, whereas the Thunder have gone through the Mavs, Lakers and Spurs. Plus they have home court I think. I'm sticking with them!

Actually, let OKC win. That way they can stop claiming Seattle's title in 1979 as their own.

I suppose I should add the proviso that if LeBron plays like in game 6 for 2 or 3 games, the Thunder has no chance. And I think he can guard Durant or Harden or even Westbrook a hell of a lot better than anyone on the Thunder can guard him. But how many times can he dominate offensively while also shutting down Durant etc? It seems more reasonable to just expect his normal playoff production, maybe a bit worse. Which is awesome but basically I think this one comes down to the Thunder's depth winning out.

They aren't supposed to claim that title.  The Sonic history supposedly stayed in Seattle so it pisses me off seeing ESPN credit them with the 1979 title.

OKC made copies of all the banners when they left Seattle. We got the originals and retain the rights to the name Seattle Supersonics, but apparently "share" the history. That was part of the settlement between Clay Bennet and the city of Seattle.

Heh, my favorite local sports show (Valenti and Foster) were having a debate over rigged sports, discussing the recent stories about some major Euro goalie throwing games and Pacquiao getting robbed in a blatant con job . One of the hosts kept claiming Boston was robbed in game 7 by the refs, and I thought of you Etiolet. There's no question Boston didn't get some calls they deserved, but I didn't get the impression the game was being tampered with by the refs.

The Celtics get away with a ton of stuff every game, from Rondo's reaching to KG's moving/bumping screens...I have no complaints. They got beat by a more talented team with fresher legs.

I'm still not seeing any consensus about either this game or the Finals in general. Usually by this point, some favorite has emerged. My feeling is that the Heat are not quite as good as they were at their peak in the regular season, but the Thunder have actually improved, so the backwards-looking stats (which paint them as being basically dead even) are not completely reliable. I'm still going with the Thunder, due to depth and HCA. But it feels as close as any Finals I can remember.

lol, Spoelstra going back to the well with Riley's 'play like it's your last breath' speech

Heat looking good but Mike Miller is the Walking Dead out there, sheesh. He got a steal, threw it to a teammate and then just stayed in the backcourt for the whole possession there :lol

Spoelstra apparently has played LeBron-Wade-Bosh-Haslem-Battier for only 9 mins of the post-season so far - 4Q Game 7 vs Boston. My god. Are we all agreed that that is his best line-up... (given that Chalmers is redundant with two ballhandlers on court)?

If Perkins wasn't so good at setting screens, I'd say he should get zero minutes in this series. He has no-one to guard. But those screens are the key to getting the ball moving for OKC.
