We have to understand what it takes to win," James said. "It's going to be a long process, man. There's been a lot of losing basketball around here for a few years. So a lot of guys that are going to help us win ultimately haven't played a lot of meaningful basketball games in our league.

"When we get to that point when every possession matters , no possessions off -- we got to share the ball, we got to move the ball, we got to be a team and be unselfish -- we'll be a better team."

After starting the game 10-for-10 as a team against the Blazers, Cleveland went 21 for its next 75, finishing with a dismal 36.5 percent clip from the field. James was bad (4-for-12), but the Cavs' starting backcourt of Kyrie Irving (3-for-17) and Dion Waiters (3-for-11) was even worse.

Irving and Waiters were on the team the last two seasons, of course, as the Cavs racked up a combined record of 57-107.

James did not call out any teammate by name, but seemed to be referencing Irving's and Waiters' play when reflecting on what needs to change in order for Cleveland to start playing the right way.

"There's a lot of bad habits; a lot of bad habits have been built up over the last couple of years and when you play that style of basketball it takes a lot to get it up out of you," James said. "But I'm here to help and that's what it's about."

We'll see how they look around game 20 as a progress check.

Agreed. Even in the game where he scored a lot of points, it took a ton of shot attempts to get there. It wasn't the typical Lebron big game stat sheet from the Miami years.

On the other side, the Rockets have started off the season very hot. Chandler who?

Kobe took 37 shots last night to get 39 points. He's shooting 40% for the year so far. (To be fair, Lebron is shooting the exact same fg% at the moment)

There is this idea out there about poor Kobe and how he isn't playing on a decent team. I don't think he feels that way. I mean sure he would rather be winning but in the absence of that, I think he is secretly happy he gets to essentially pad his scoring totals for the year and climb up the scoring list.

Two players are averaging more than 19 shots per game: Blake Griffin (20.5) and Kobe Bryant (24.4). Kobe is averaging as many shots as Duncan and Nowitzki combined (and they are shooting 52 and 58%, respectively).

The thing is this is the perfect situation for him. Nobody is gonna complain about Kobe shooting too much on an awful team like this.

LeBron doesn't know how to lead, that's clear now. Probably because he grew up fatherless.

Morey lookin so good letting him go for a cheaper more effective Ariza.

End of 2nd quarter, Hayward blocks LeBron and dunks in transition :rejoice

Cleveland playing whipping boy to the Jazz most of this game, offense looking so much better under Snyder.... Cleveland will come back if their offense stops being so cac though (picking up in the 3rd).

I get what Lebron is doing. He is trying to show Kyrie and Dion how to win.

If they don't stop playing as they are now (Irving 0 assists vs Jazz), and don't integrate in the offense I expect one (probably Waiters) to be traded by the all star break.

Tough love.

I doubt anyone will be traded after what happened in the offseason.  The team just needs to shake its bad habits and start playing better team basketball.

Looking at the box score, the Cavs as a team had 6 assists last night. There is no way on earth a team with that many good passers should end up with 6 assists in a game. By accident they should end up with more than that.

What that tells me is they aren't really running a system yet. Which is a problem. It's still insanely early obviously so it should come but still, after the drubbing, the spurs gave in the finals, I thought that lesson would have rubbed off on everybody in the league.

I really am circling Irving and Waiters as the issue. They seem to stop the offensive flow at least 2 out of every 5 trips. This offense is predicated on ball movement, not hero ball.

Edit;

Yup

Irving at waiters:

13-27 from the field
1 assist combined
1 rebound combined
-4 combined on floor

They are killing us. Time to consider starting miller I think.

The writing was on the wall from the last time. Bill already has a thin ego and you could tell he was already pissed at ESPN before the suspension. He's clearly leaving when the contract is up and either wants them to fire him early or he just doesn't give a fuck anymore and will take the consequences until his contract is up.
