Well, it's a new era of advertising money. People shouldn't be disappointed because players are getting their cut.

I don't think any rational person caress about how much these people make. The owners wouldn't be putting out the money if they weren't making shitloads themselves. I just think people don't quite know the current value of players relative to the salary cap.

Spurs got David West for the vet minimum. He wasn't joking about taking less to join a contender. I'm honestly expecting them to go to the finals again.

The one downside is they had to gut a bit of their bench. But Pop will handle it.

Pelton was projecting them at 65 wins even before they got West.

Seems kinda hard to accurately project Spurs wins, given how Pop rests players.

Will Manu come back?

Cavs sign Mo Williams.  :lol

It's a cheap contract (2 years 4.3 mil) so its nothing to get mad about but its still kind of funny because of the history.

The Los Angeles Clippers are trying to persuade DeAndre Jordan to reconsider his decision to sign with the Mavericks after Jordan verbally committed to join Dallas last week, according to league sources.

Free agents are traditionally considered off limits once they strike a verbal agreement with a team during the NBA's annual moratorium period, but sources said the Clippers have pushed to secure a meeting Wednesday in Houston for coach and team president Doc Rivers and possibly owner Steve Ballmer to make one last face-to-face pitch to Jordan in an attempt to persuade him to walk away from the four-year, $80-plus million max deal he committed to with the Mavericks and instead stay with L.A.

Sources say that in recent days some Clippers players also have been in contact with Jordan, who informed both teams of his decision on Friday before flying to his offseason home in Houston.

Thursday is the first day teams and players can formally sign contracts once the moratorium is lifted. Sources say the Clippers, since Jordan's return to Houston, have been bypassing his representatives from Relativity Sports and have been urging him to take the Clippers' offer instead while there's still time.

The desperation is strong. :heh

Would be amazing if he did it.

If I was DAJ, I'd probably be more offended than happy about this eleventh hour pitch. It's like "Oh, now you suddenly care about me enough to make an actual effort?"

But I don't know what's in his heart or what's on his mind, of course.

Honestly from Jordan's perspective its a better situation. That team is better than the Mavs if he had gone there. I always thought he should have stayed. Maybe he shouldn't have needed to be all coddled but in the long run, its the right move.

The real thing is let's see if all that talk about improving his free throws actually turns into something. If he could just hit 60% of them, it would help his game immensely.

But he took the coward's way out, refusing to accept phone calls from the Mavs' front office or his good buddy Chandler Parsons. Nor did he return text messages or tell owner Mark Cuban face-to-face why he changed his mind -- a decision that will take the Mavs years to overcome.

Quote
Jordan left nothing but a wrecked franchise. How wild is that? A few days ago, the Mavs felt good about their two-year plan to build a legitimate contender.

Now, the entire franchise is in disarray because a 26-year-old free agent changed his mind.

Obviously if the Mavs were my team, I'd be feeling a bit salty at the moment too.

Remember when the big thing was Dwight Coward?

Jordan's handled it better than that affair over two and a half years.

He's not the first to back out after the moratorium. Hedo Turkoglu did it with the Blazers for Toronto a few years back.

The most famous example for a while was probably Carlos Boozer backing out of a technically "illegal" "wink-wink" deal with Cleveland to continue his minimum salary contract for a larger payday to take Utah's max offer.

Jason Kidd did it to the Mavericks a few years ago, but he was already old as hell by then, so it wasn't a big deal.

The McDyess story is still the best.

He was leaning towards resigning with Denver, but then he got a bit of cold feet and Kidd and the other Suns all called him saying how much they wanted him back and that they were coming up to Denver to see him.

Dan Issel ordered Pepsi Center security to not allow them into the building under any circumstances, and McDyess thought he got stood up. So he resigned with Denver.

Dan Issel was such a bastard.

The more I think about it, the more I'm coming around to the idea that this was Jordan's plan from the start and he never was serious about signing with the Mavs. What he wanted was to keep playing in LA, but felt like the Clippers, and especially CP3, didn't appreciate what he brought to the team. So, he shopped around until he found out just how desperate the Mavs were, promised to sign with them, and then let Cuban and Parsons crow about what an amazing deal they made by getting this top-tier player. With the clock winding down, he picked up the phone and told Doc Rivers that he was having second thought about his decision. Then the whole Clippers organization rushes down to Houston to tell Jordan what an amazing player he is and how sorry they are that they didn't appreciate him. Now, he goes back to LA a hero and the man who put one over on old Mark Cuban.

But maybe that's giving him too much credit and really he's just a flaky guy who can't decide what he wants.

Portland is making OKC pay the max for Kanter. Which means they will have to salary dump a few players.

Quote
Zach Lowe @ZachLowe_NBA
OKC is just about $2.5M under the tax, so a max deal for Kanter would cost them nearly $40M.

Quote
Zach Lowe @ZachLowe_NBA
OKC will likely match, + then look to deal Novak/Augustin/PJII for $0. But POR is forcing their hand. Lots of teams were rooting for this.
