Apple Music editors notes on the albums as I listen during the workday are an excellent example as to why it's my preferred service.
I've listened to Master of Reality a few times but this time the Ed. notes really helped me understand within the context of history and its influence.
Meanwhile, Spotify offers no such context. Apple Music helps contextualize music within the confines of its period, what it influences, its influences, all tied to a neat paragraph blurb. Apple Music is the service for those who like finding music. It unfortunately doesn't do this for every album, though.
Before, I listened to Sabbath's Master of Reality, I thought it was good. But after listening to them grow sequentially you can hear them get heavier and heavier as the genre just continues to evolve. It's fascinating. By Master of Reality almost all of the blues influences of rock has been washed away. Like, before it felt like just a much heavier rock. But then in Master of Reality they pull out all the stops especially in Embryo. It's just full on heavy metal.
Love it.
What genre is Black Sabbath considered? Traditional metal?
- Black Sabbath down
- Judas Priest next and I'll start Iron Maiden (who I know nothing about) after that
