It's more comic-like than is is soap-y.  One cool thing they did at the end of this last episode was introduce a pre-curser to the League of Doom.  You can tell that Tom Welling is really trying, but they really needed the original producers back to make the ending happen.

Something about    Aubrey Plaza staring at the screen Parks and Recreations freaks me out.  I feel like it's a gag I don't understand introduced in Season 1.  No one else seems to be so aware of the camera.

Nothing much to get, the "look at camera" move in these faux-doc shows is a staple to show the "viewer" that yes I'm aware this is absurd and lame and I'm just here, not a participant. Her character is emo/apathetic/whatever and so doing it over the top is just part of that.

Last night's South Park episode was hilarious. Basically anything that ridicules Canada is hilarious. I think it has the best ending of all the episodes. It's up on their site...

Finished up S1 of Boardwalk Empire. No episode ever matched the premiere, but there were pretty of amazing moments and scenes. The finale had a scene straight out of the Godfather.

I have to say, I'm starting to la la love Parks & Recreation :-[ can't believe I waited this long before watching it. The weirdest thing about the show is that while it sounds exactly like the Office on paper (mockumentary about a boring workplace in a small town) it is surprisingly vibrant and colorful.

I also like how Poehler's character stopped being Michael Scott's level of naive after the first season, and is achieving progress at her job. Good show, thanks for talking me into it <3

Parks and Rec is amazing.  I went back and watched the first season recently and it's not as much a clone of The Offices as I first thought.

I actually did stop in the middle of Season 2 to give Season 1 a second chance.  Didn't hate it as much as I remembered, but still a huge downgrade from S2 and 3.  Ron is completely neutered.  All the characters are pretty tame in Season 1, but really, Ron is absolutely hilarious in the later seasons and he is barely a presence in the first.  Andy and Mark just feel like different characters entirely.

Wasn't there an Xbox thing that let you get Hulu Plus for free? I want to watch the earlier episodes in Season 3.  Season 3 might be better than 2 because of Rob Lowe.

And Leslie's mom is totally Arnold's partner from Kindergarten Cop.

Glad you are enjoying it. And yeah the show is the anti-office imo despite having the same fake reality show gimmick. It's a lot more silly and clever and friendly than the office.

Parks and Rec is my favorite live sitcom going right now.  Really good stuff.

My problem with the first season wasn't so much its aping of The Office as how unlikeable the characters were.  That's not an issue with the zanier, more cartoonish comedies (AD, Community, Archer, etc), where you can play the selfishness and callousness for laughs, but the more realistic you make the setting, the more off-putting it gets.  Unless you get to the point of "so brutally awkward it's funny" but I don't think P&R was ever going to get close to that.

Anyway, even if it gets subsumed by relationship stuff and general sitcom aging disease in the future it's great now and everyone should check it out.

I only recently discovered this show, since Japan eventually seems to get EVERY American TV series eventually. The first four eps are all I've seen, but it seems really good. I want to know more about what the Mysterious Black Guy's background. And I want to see the mayor's nemesis get punched in the sac at least once.

The final season as a comic book could be crap or it could be great. I wish they'd done that with Firefly. Even paperback books would have been great. Steven Brust wrote a fabulous novel in that world.

Eh... I still like Jericho, but not as much anymore. I'm not sure if I'd recommend it to anyone. Things are too clean and calm for what's suppose to be "the end of the world" for them. I liked it much more when things are more hectic and serious problems had to be dealt with asap. And now relationship bullshit is being thrown in also.

I'm only 12 episodes in though. Hopefully it picks up again and this is all just me reacting to that lame ass flashback episode.

I remember a while back on GAF there was a "post your celebrity encounters" thread and deep into like page 5 or 6 people were posting about meeting obscurse MMA fighters and local weathermen and shit, then some guy posted something like "well it's not really a 'celebrity encounter' and not sure worth posting, but my father wrote the theme song for an old PBS show that I really liked - Reading Rainbow"

Want to watch The Borgias though it is seems like it might be a bit of a snoozefest, never really got through the first episode.

Only want to try Camelot because of Eva Green. Doesn't seem that great and at least from the trailers whoever they got for Arthur is LOLOLOL
