doesn't like The Wire or Mad Men? leper this filth

I'll rewatch a few episodes of The Wire when I get home and see if it gets me going.  I can easily start watching Mad Men again, too.  In both cases, I just got to the end of a season and never returned for the next.  It's not that I really actively dislike them. I just don't get them.  And I hate Don Draper.

I should probably give GoT more than one episode before dropping it.

Or just read the books instead, but I dunno if you like fantasy stuff. They're great.

In terms of recent shows...honestly even the ones I like have disappointed me lately. I used to be a huge Homeland fan, but S2 really shat in my cereal. S3 was a strong rebound, but I dunno about the show's long term potential. Likewise Downton Abbey had a great first season but has fallen since then, although I still enjoy it for the characters.

do you like American Horror Story? It started so good, for a couple episodes...then turned to shit.

I liked the first two seasons of American Horror Story quite a bit and was massively disappointed by the third.  I didn't even like Jessica Lange in it all that much :(  I dropped Homeland after the second season.  Actually haven't watched Downton.  I should give that a shot sometime.

Season one was 2005, two was 2007, three was 2010.

Aaron McGruder wasn't even involved in this final season apparently. Wanted to do that movie instead I think.
He's quite overrated so I'm fine with him being gone. People tend to forget how much filler content the show has had, plus it's a collaborative effort so it's not like he was doing everything. I liked his writing more in the comic strip, whereas the show hovers between average and awesome, episode to episode.

There is no Boondocks without Aaron McGruder. He wrote all of season 3 himself and that's partially why they take so long between seasons. I'm highly skeptical of this new season.

How is Aaron McGruder overrated? He created the Boondocks comic and show.

IMO the show is very hit and miss, and I think McGruder is a bit of a snob. Dude takes himself way too seriously, and his political commentary tends to fall flat IMO..

I fux with the show overall though. But each season has bleh episodes. Also a variety of people write television shows and still release them yearly. He had help writing the last two seasons btw

What is this about filler in a non-serial show tho :what

I wouldn't say that the Boondocks tv series is full of political commentary. The comic post-911 (god I miss you :tocry)? Sure. But the tv series? It has the occasional ep like the MLK ep and the Obama ep, but those are the most widely regarded of their seasons.

True. I remember last season especially having episodes that either felt forced or were downright bad. The focus on spoofing current events often was very hit/miss to me.

btw was the kick ball ep last season? I hated that shit, but apparently most people liked it.

The cg art of the show is so ugly but otherwise its a fun show about the love between a man and the ship's artificial intelligence :heart Young Justice is fine but there is a tad too much teen drama for me

How could anyone buy that Chilton was the ripper when he was out of commission at the end of last season getting his guts sewn back in?  He couldn't have possibly killed Georgia or Abigail unless he was flying around and killing people while dragging around an IV drip.

Also, Hannibal needs to make some legit mistakes.  This was an episode too far when it comes down to being an untouchable perfect plotter.  It reminds me of House of Cards too much.  Also, they really didn't sufficiently explain why Miriam, of all the people he's abducted, is the only one he never killed immediately.

The show gets 2 more strikes before I declare it trash.

They'll probably address this next episode, I can't see them letting something that obvious slide. He was only in custody for a few hours before what happened with Miriam, which is plausible based on the scene in his home and him running.  They'd arrest anyone for that.

The show is pretty trash, at the base of it. Things happen every episode that would never happen in reality, like Hannibal's apparently supernatural ability to teleport across entire states with no one noticing his absence, etc.  It's just really well-done trash. Think of it as a vertigo comic about a literate demon who's escaped from hell and enjoys playing with his food.

Did you watch the same episode I did? Hannibal IS making mistakes now. He's getting too caught up in the theatricality of his murders. There's no way Jack keeps believing anyone else could be the killer.

Hannibal likely left Miriam alive so, through his psychological torture of her, she would snap and try to kill Chilton. He's likely still alive, though.

also, how the hell is Hannibal trash because it's not realistic? The imagery and atmosphere alone of the murders should make you realize that "realism" is not an aspect of the show -- it's purely an artistic, long-form nightmare.

You should probably be reading Bryan Fuller's postmortems on every episode on AVClub to understand things in each episode. http://www.avclub.com/article/hannibals-bryan-fuller-hannibal-lecters-grand-desi-203253

We'll have to agree to disagree.  I loved the show up until this point, but this one really didn't ring true to me.  Like I said, it's the first time I thought the show has truly outreached its grasp.

I didn't even consider that it was part of Hannibal's plan to have Chilton shot.  That makes the whole thing even more ridiculous.

Re the post-mortem: good god that whole bit about Hannibal using tunnels beneath the city is stupid.
