We caught up on Shield.

Like, I can see why the mid season finale is a big deal, but the character development has been so crap in this season, that I had no reason to care about any of it. It probably doesn't help I had no idea who Quake was without googling. Feels like the series is best for people who know Marvel lore than people who just want to watch a tv show. Watching it after Arrow made it feel even more weak. Apparently AVclub gave it an A-. An A-? Why do people think this is so good? Feel like I'm missing something. Oh well.

I'm not convinced any AVClub review score isn't trolling. They'll savage an episode and give it a C+, then write a love letter to the next one and give it a B-.

I have started watching a few Korean dramas on Hulu and they are fucking weird as shit

Pinocchio - This is an attempt to squeeze EVERY emotion out of you in every episode.  The first episode starts off as a nostalgic slice of life for 80s high school students, then it shifts to a tense Firefighter drama with high action and then when our protagonist's father dies, we get the HUGE overblown weepy shit we know from Korean dramas that quickly shifts to anger as we find ass covering bureaucrats lying about their role in the death of the firefighters.  Oh yeah, and it's a light romantic comedy about the news business about a woman who gets the hiccups when she lies and her attempts to climb social / corporate ladders

http://www.viki.com/tv/23066c-pinocchio

Modern Farmer - this shit is fucking amazing.  washed up rock star inherits his grandmother's cabbage farm.  having nowhere else to go, he decides to farm it himself.  absolutely hilarious and weird as shit.

I cat-assed some Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. today. Decided to skip a few and jump in later in season 1 where it picks up with the “Tahiti” stuff. I’m enjoying it a lot, but outside Coulson and Ward, the acting is pretty miserable. Ming-Na Wen I remember was some kind of important actress when she debuted, but the Agent May role is mostly just being stoic and pissed off, so it doesn’t allow for much range. Deathlok was a nice touch; I used to read those comics in their original run. The structure of the government bureaucracy and espionage is less realistically handled than in several RPGs I’ve been in, but it’s still exciting and enjoyable.

thanks for the heads up and giving me all the ammo I need to NOT see Winter Soldier.

You'd be missing out. It's the best MCU movie to date, IMO.
Doubt it's better than Spider-Man 2 (OG) or Avengers but I'll rent it

Sony’s Spider-Man movies can’t be part of MCU. Well, rather, they aren’t so far. Future ones might be.

I still haven't gotten into the Flash, really. I watched the one crossover episode. I like the actor they got to play the part, but I'm alternate universe Treesong on comic book stuff: I *don't* like the lighter stuff. Gimme the grimdark, plz.

i thought it was well done. like arrow, things are moving at a good pace. it only takes him 9 eps to tell Iris his feelings, and any other show would do the "fireman" story and drag it all season long as a "WHO IS THIS GUY?!?!" thing. Nope, handled in one episode. More than that, the way they handled it was nice. At first during the attack, it seemed like the two biggest guesses of who Reverse Flash is (Wells, Eddie) went out the window when they were in the same place as the guy. Not only that, but Well got his ass kicked. But then the ending happens...I thought that was some trickery.

Great episodes from both Arrow and Flash.

Not sure how they're ever gonna credibly sell Oliver being able to beat him after that fight. Guess maybe if they're not in a formal duel Oliver can pull some tricks?

I know ppl tend to hate mysticism and crap post LOST but I hope they treat Ra's as more of a god/entity. Where you don't really "beat" him, he just kinda goes away until the heat dies down. Popping back up a few years or decades later. Can't kill the Demon Head.

Arrow is very much Nolan inspired but they aren't afraid to go full comic book. I mean look at all the Slade shit last season. Part of why I think the show is still fun.

Much to the chagrin of ppl who just want serious dudes doing serious stuff with no love interests or family drama ever. The only conflict in Oliver's life should be the other dudes faces he's breaking.

Dunno about ruined but that's pretty bad, almost Star Wars Special Edition-levels of lazy bullshit in the name of "technological progress."

Once More With Feeling is the only 16:9 Buffy episode and it couldn't have worked out better :rejoice

It's a shame, since the DVD transfers for all of s1 and much of s2 are pretty garbagey and noisy. Would totes shell out for a series Blu-ray set with actual HD footage (4:3, Dragon Ball Kai-style), but alas, it's not to be.

Curb's first season starts a bit average, especially the pilot which I didn't really like much, but once it finds its stride it never stops.

Season 5 of Curb was kind of weak.  Even then, it's still great TV.

I watched The Borgias.  I've been watching a bunch of other stuff but I really liked this show and naturally, the last season was canned since it was too expensive.  The incest subplot of Season 3 was hot.

watching Agents of Shield S1 because of yall raving about it

It's alright.

I only managed to get to ep. 19 or 20, ran out of Netflix time here, but I can say the first three eps. were meh, and randomly choosing to start with ep. 9 was a good run up to the craziness caused by Captain America 2. I like it; it’s not as good as I want it to be, but it’s close.

Got caught up on Brooklyn nine nine.

I had watched maybe six episodes from the start of the show and then stopped but I went ahead and got caught up to everything that's aired.

It's a fun throwback sinmple comedy to stuff that existed in the 80's and 90's. It isn't doing anything spectacular or innovative but all the characters are likable and enjoyable and its fun watch to just kill time.

In this episode of Star Trek tng chief O'brien finds out that he doesn't know anything about the Japanese woman he marries. They don't know each others favorite food or what they ate as children or...anything about each other.  It even is hinted at they didn't stay together before marrying. For the future it sure sounds pretty backwards!

Asylum was the best.

Then Murder House.

Then Coven.

Haven't bothered with Freak Show but I've heard it continues the decline. (Coven wasn't so bad, until the end when it became clear they were making shit up as they went along and nothing mattered.)

I totally agree. Asylum gets kudos from me cause it actually wrapped almost all the shit up (minus the aliens), and then just flailed for an extra episode or two. But by then I didn't mind having an epilogue of sorts cause I really cared about the characters by that point.

Coven on the other hand completely falls apart 4-5 eps before the season is over.

Yeah, Asylum's weakest point (besides just being all kinds of ridiculous, but that's a positive as much as a negative) is that it really ends on ep11 and then has 2 eps of epilogue which are fine but the show doesn't really end on a bang and seems kind of weird when all the major plotlines are being taken care of several eps from the end.  Murder House started off interesting, but just never did anything really interesting.  It was ok.

Still think I'll skip Coven because I'm not really interested in seeing a good half of setting up a show that goes nowhere in the second half and doesn't pay off.

I'll never forget the "why that tracking shot in True Detective is overrated" articles that came out shortly after the episode aired, which didn't focus on the actual shot and instead white guilted over the audacity of showing *gasp* some black people selling drugs in a housing project. Nevermind that the show is full of quite a diverse group of people committing various crimes, many drug (or pedophile) related.
