I did an in-store pickup on Resistance 3. I loved the first one, but thought the second one was total shit.

Gears of War 3 is $15 at Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/Gears-War-3-Xbox-360/dp/B002I0H79C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343145532&sr=8-1&keywords=gears+of+war+3

Tempting but I think I'm over this franchise and backlog collecting, so will pass.

Well yeah, but I don't believe in piracy.

And very little of that $1.50 made it's way to crazy Canadian dude.

This is just a heads-up, and YMMV. My local K-Mart has a clearance rack for video game accessories, and they were blowing out the "Ultimate Combo Pack" Dualshock/Games bundles for $36. Mine had the Uncharted/Uncharted 2 bundle (which I bought) and the Resistance/Resistance 2 bundle. Evidently the Uncharted bundle was supposed to be $45 but someone had just slapped the same $36 sticker on all the bundles. My PS3 controller barely holds a charge anymore, so I was kinda in the market for one anyway, and at $36 that's almost $20 cheaper than a Dualshock by itself.

Will it be cheaper in the Black Friday steam sale most likely?  I don't have time to play it until probably next year anyhow.  I have little time for gaming and am in the middle of a few games and then ACIII and ACIII Vita will last me for 2012.

Hahaha, yeah, they sort of talked me out of buying it anytime soon, particularly that bit about restarting the game 9 hours in because he knew he couldn't win. I know myself well enough that I'd have my sole Xbox PC controller broken all to pieces within days if that happened. Maybe if they patch in a casual mode. I just can't tolerate punishing games the way I could when I was younger.

It is fairly faithful to the original in that regard although that's not necessarily a positive at least in a tutorial sense. The game is very challenging and rightfully so. At a proper difficulty level its not supposed to be a cake walk. It's a throwback to an era I grew up in where failing and then learning from that process was the nature of game design. You could legit fail something back in the day. That is no longer the case.

It's a fantastic game. And if you are worried about playing it and not knowing what to do just asking a few questions around here about what should be your priorities will solve that. It's actually fairly simple in concept at least. The game has a decent and lengthy tutorial although it doesn't emphasize some of the essential points like you need to have satellites up and you need to expand your base to account for this and money will be tight so you have to get going on that process asap. The tutorial also gives you the impression that you should go ahead and progress the story stuff quickly which is not the case.

This is my first XCOM. I'm playing it on easy and taking my time. Also, with hearing some of the tips from the bombcast and online I'm not expecting to have to start over. It's really great. I have had to start missions over because I lost a man or two, but that was mostly bad strategy on my part.
