gf had me watch two episodes of New Girl on the weekend. Despite it sounding like something I should be into and Zooey :heart I just cant muster any interest. It's all so predictable, sanitised and completely unrelateable. The only remotely interesting thing is Schmidt being a douche. I can understand why girls like it though.

And I did like that Cheswick showed up on in one episode and played a character somewhat like Cheswick

the thanksgiving episode was pretty good

Yeah but only because of Cheswick.

The forced storyline Jess and obvious love interest annoys me too.

How To Make It In America's season finale was incredible. I'm gonna miss not having anything worthwhile to watch on Sunday nights. :(
That was the season finale? ???

First season had 8 episodes; second season has 8 episodes. You're familiar with HBO seasons right? They're either eight or twelve episodes long, generally.

both seasons of how to make it in america needed one more episode because the endings feel so rushed.

at least for crisp.  the girlfriend and Luis Guzman's stories were earned.  Crisp is an entire season of stuff, then like one or two parts of that stuff coming back to save them.  the other clothing dude acted like a bitch for picking up Crisp after what happened early on.  if there was more development there, it would have been earned.  or at least introduce Enzo earlier.  they eschew development to have a "surprise" as a closer, like the T-shirt design or Ben's secret plan.

It's not as bad as entourage or anything.  I mean, the resolution isn't pulled out of an ass.

it's an HBO show, so yes

I remember reading something on Party Down about how Starz forced them to put nudity in the show because it was a premium network and people expected it or something.

You get to see Lake Bell (she's on Childrens Hospital) topless. She has the best titties of any girl on HBO right now.

I thought all shows on HBO had 12-13 episodes per season. Even Entourage did most of the time. Regardless, How to Make It felt rushed.

I disagree. It goes way too dark and then it just stops being funny. American version finds a delicate balance.

uhhh. Wasn't this episode the first they've ever done any gun practice? She basically just learned how to fire a gun and suddenly she's popping caps like it's goin outta style.

I guess it plays off the comics, but it also comes off cheesy.

I thought she had been shooting for awhile. Also she came pretty damn close to killing Daryl in the previous episode with a rifle.

During practice she did very well at sharpshooting, but couldn't hit a moving target...until her life was on the line. I can accept that. It's a zombie show based on a comic, after all.

Hm, that was the best episode of Walking Dead in some time.

Ya, was pretty good.

I watched Don Glover's standup act the other night, was pretty OK. Guy talks a bit too fast and his jokes are all over the place, but he had some good material. (Helps that I've sort of been a fan of his since his Derrick Comedy days.)

A friend posted on her facebook a quote along the lines of "I don't want to be reminded that ugly people exist when I watch TV." This works for that sort of 20 to 30s range of shows ranging from Friends to The New Girl. I imagine it works for HIMYM.

It's just a framing device and easy way to justify narration from Bob Saget.
All The League talk in this thread is making me interested in it
It's great, don't really need to know much of anything about fantasy football, any fantasy sports can apply to those jokes and they're maybe 5% at tops and often just the basic premise that sets up other stuff. (Like using trade demands to affect things in real life, etc.)

The first season starts a bit slow but it figures itself and the characters out in the second half of it, then after that it's gold. The same husband and wife team write and direct pretty much every episode so it's quite consistent.

It might actually be the raunchiest (couldn't think of a word that doesn't make me sound like my parents) sitcom on TV. (Not counting HBO/Showtime/etc.) Certainly more than anything else I can think of off the top of my head. Hell, probably even is more so than Curb.

It also allows for the creators to write off discontinuity in the plot because it's been proven time and time again that Bob Saget is an unreliable narrator in the show.

So I guess convenience is the best part about it. But really the idea is that all these years of random events and life-changing experiences are what made Ted Mosby into the man that would meet his children's mother, marry her, and have them. It's just taking a long time to get there.

To be honest, HIMYM is about as entertaining to me as Two and a Half Men.  I don't really find it any more clever.  But then again, I'm not one of those people that finds Two and a Half Men revolting.  Just utterly average and predictable.  Kinda like HIMYM!  Just for a different age group

part of it is because Neil Patrick Harris is just so damned charming.  I agree it's not really a very good show, but it has some heart to it that makes it more than completely derivative.

Jason Segal and Neil Patrick Harris make the show. Their depiction of Canada as Bizzaro America is also pretty good.

With that said, they really need to end it soon.

I like the main characters in HIMYM and they usually have some good ideas for episode plots. But the jokes are hit or miss, usually miss.

As much as I like NPH off-HIMYM though, his character on the show has started to annoy me for some reason. He's just way too in-your-face.

One of the things that makes HIMYM more than usual fare is the continuity between its jokes. It basically has its own lore at this point with how many in-jokes the show has across the seasons.

ehh, Weeds is still a good show compared to Breaking Bad, at least in its first three seasons. One thing it has over BB is that it never takes itself seriously. It's a show that's (mostly) about pot, and therefore being high and watching it tend to go hand-in-hand. It's, for the most part, a show you can mellow out to versus a show that constantly has you on edge.

I've been going through Downton Abbey at the moment. I'm usually not a huge costume drama fan but this show is excellent, the characters are fantastic (and Maggie Smith is wonderful). I haven't had much time to get through much of it (on episode 4 of season 1) but I plan to at least get through the rest of the first season today.

Okay, I've never watched American Horror Story, but I just saw a preview for it while I was watching football, and it's talking about the newly elected pope getting a key that unlocks the secrets of all evil. WTF, I thought this was like a small-town horror show like Picket Fences or something, and now it's about the Pope?
