I watched both seasons of BBC's Sherlock last week. Amazing fucking show. The first episode of the 2nd season is one of my favorite episodes of television ever. It felt like a standalone movie.

I'm loving those British accents right now, so I decided to watch Downton Abbey. 2 episodes in and loving every minute of it.

Team Mr. Bates all the way. I agree that the theme is one of the best.

I've never watched Doctor Who, Himu. Isn't it an extremely long show?

I've never watched Doctor Who, Himu. Isn't it an extremely long show?

It's been on for decades but essentially most young people have only seen the modern stuff which is perfectly alright.

The modern version begins in 2005 and runs for 4 seasons. (Not counting the special episodes)

A new doctor is introduced after that and its run for 2 more seasons with him (Not counting the special episodes)

So if you wanted to start watching you can either begin with the 2005 stuff or the two seasons of the most recent doctor. (I would recommend you start with the 2005 stuff)

Keep in mind though that Doctor Who is an acquired taste. Some people don't get it or its not to their tastes. A sort of sci-fi fantasy adventure time traveling kind of thing.

Netflix has Doctor Who starting from season 1 (2005) to season 5. It's a good way to catch up.

Peep Show
The original UK office is great and better than the American version by a long shot imo.
Extras
Agatha Christie's Poirot
Life On Mars
Black Books
The Prisoner
Rome (was on HBO)

are some of my favorites.

Yeah, if you haven't seen it already, watch The Office UK. It's a classic though I prefer US Office seasons 2 and 3, UK is a better overall package. Also, check out IT Crowd, and Spaced. Those are comedy.

Surprised Stoney left out Life on Mars, but it's not on netflix or anything.

tbqh if you REALLY wanna get into brit tv set your dvr to record Masterpiece Classic and Masterpiece Mystery on Sundays. Check your local PBS station.

Also, warning. If you are audio sensitive like me and watch marathon of Brit tv, also like me, you may have a slight british accent after your marathons.

GIRLS :bow2

(Image removed from quote.)

My initial interest in the show was a type of masochism, but I'm really digging it now.  Last two episodes were great.

Weakest link is Jessica (? the brit).  Her character, acting, storylines, and everything are just awful.  The other three main characters are good.  Gay ex-boyfriend is the best character.

I'd like to add-
'How Do You Want Me'
'Grass' (the Simon Day comedy, NOT the other one)
'The Thick Of It'
'Brass Eye' etc

But tbh, most recent UK tv stuff, apart from newsy things, is anodyne shit, catering to the lowest common denominator.

I started watching Jericho on netflix. I'm three episodes in and it's pretty interesting. It's got its quirks, but builds a nice mystery and I loved the opening shot of the pilot.

I've been watching a lot of Amazon Instant Video to fill in holes of TV I want to see that isn't on Netflix.

I watched all of Breaking Bad Season 4.  This season is on a plane far above the first three seasons, which were very good to begin with, but this one is simply on another level.  No real bad episodes, no cringingly bad characters (Skyler has redeemed herself as she adjusts to this new lifestyle), and everything flows together in spite of everything more or less falling apart.  I guess the only question I have is where to go from here and will be interesting to see how Season 5 rolls out.

I'm starting to work my way through Californication and I am halfway through the first season.  Real life sex addict David Duchovny plays a guy who bangs half a dozen hot girls per episode while feebly attempting to resurrect a writing career.  The show is merely ok, not like Breaking Bad or Justified where I just had to watch the next episode.  I hear it picks up quite a bit in future seasons and I hope that is the case.  A solid B show that would be C if it wasn't for all of the hot naked women.

Wasnt there only one season? It definitely got less interesting as you discovered what happened and more connections to the outside world was made. Lost a lot of what made it good for me. (mystery, isolation)

There was a very brief second season where they clearly crammed basically the plot development for several seasons into something like six episodes. I still enjoyed it, but yeah, things suddenly happened fast. I did enjoy the development as it went on more than you did though, I was intrigued by the overall mystery and more than that, what the new world was like and how it all fit together.

Anyway, I watched Stephen Fry in America (2008) over the past few days and really enjoyed it. I really liked the variety in items, with serious items like touring New Orleans with an Iraq veteran who grew up there to visiting a 'witch' in Salem. It was a nice mix, though at times I did feel like it was a little too focused on the lighter items and would have enjoyed a bit more substance. Stephen Fry's personality makes it all enjoyable to watch though, and the show was a nice and overall fairly positive look at the United States, which is a nice change of pace for European media these days. Some of the films really make me want to visit one day.

I've only seen the first three eps, but I really liked them. Very bleak, and the lack of information makes everything suitably terrifying. Also, the theme of "opportunists don't really have a filter for 'this isn't an appropriate time'" is well explored.

Oh yes, there's lots of jackhole opportunists. I guess I have a hard time understanding that behavior.

I'm 13 episodes in now and it's started to lose my interest. I don't know if it's due to more of the mystery eroding away or them focusing on love triangles that create redundancies.

One thing I wish they'd not have included is all the songs ripped from a teenage drama. It doesn't really fit the whole post-apocalyptic vibe. You have people doing cruel things and turning against each other, and then suddenly it's Party of Five going on.

Finished S2 of Mad Men. Very good finale, and overall a great season; I prefer S1 though.

One thing that's rather odd:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
why would a company knowingly prop up a liability like Duck Phillips as president of their US branch? I guess they had to in the sense that he brokered the deal and was loyal, but it still seemed odd. I was somewhat surprised at their "oh, he never could hold his liquor lol" response to his little freak out over Don playing him for a fool.

Started watching Workaholics.  It's basically Office Space without the existentialism or a straight man.  Pretty goddamn hilarious, though.  I had a conversation about it on the metro with a guy wearing a neon pink bro hat and he totally convinced me to check it out.  Turns out, he was right.  Thanks, bro!

I really disliked the 2nd half of last season, but I thought last night's premiere was pretty promising (much better than the last season's premiere).  It still looks to suffer from too many side character stories that the last two seasons had. At least the core storyline with Russell and The Authority should be more entertaining to watch than the witches. Hopefully since this is Ball's last season as showrunner he will try to go out on top.

Also, Burn Notice.  :gun

Love summer USA stuff. Even liking the newer lower-tier shows like Necessary Roughness and Common Law. It's all so unoffensive and knows exactly what it's supposed to be. (Except Fairly Legal.)

Unrelated, I thought Veep picked itself back up after a little mid-season lull. I'm glad it's getting a second season.

Yeah, Falling Skies could have been totally sweet, but it was turned into family drama-dynamics balls. If Spielberg did actually exist, I'd take him to task over his tedious obsession with family. We get it ethereal Spielberg, made of moyl and that disgusting kosher wine that tastes of sugary cordial. Also fuck schnitzels and Avigdor Lebensraum.
