The first 6 episodes are a mixture of bad, cheesy television with some nice characters/environment. The last two eps, especially the finale, were less weird. Well outside of...

Arrow is really pretty great. I'm watching the sixteenth ep, and its hilarious teeterings on the brink of wtf'ness throughout the season. The fight choreography has either also improved, or it hasn't.

I don't know how to feel about the Justified finale. It was a lot mellower than I expected and the whole Ava thing was left as a loose end. It's not bad but different than past seasons where everything was very tight and exciting.

I enjoyed the idea of Crowder attempting to get out of the life and Raylan coming to terms that he's never going to get out of the life.

Purchased Defiance season pass from iTunes, after I realized it is cheaper than the US$30 I spent for 3 hours of movies in Daywatch and Nightwatch.

I hope it doesn't get canceled; I have no idea what happens if I've just paid for 5 episodes...

Excellent.

After it got the highest ratings of any show on SyFy since the Eureka premiere in 2006 it'll be sticking around at least through a second season. People are starved for scifi shows on that channel.

One of my friends was really impressed with the premiere. Mads Mikkelsen is apparently pretty great.

Supernatural s5 must be the pinnacle of the show. There is nowhere they can go from here but down. This is some seriously cool shit. I even like the "ill-advised American Gods homage."

Watched the Defiance pilot. Below is a list of things the show will directly reference, copy or find someway to make you think of the original source.

-Han Solo character
-Han Solo's plot in A New Hope
-Deadwood
-Deadwood's characters
-Romeo & Juliet
-Battlestar Galactica
-BSG's language
-Raving/Tron
-Firefly
-the backup choice when you can't get Nathan Fillion
-Starcraft battles
-Halo
-Buffy
-the Targaryens
-Chewbacca

Basically, it feels born of the Family Guy/Community's crowd of creation. Just reference everything you know people already like and then maybe they'll like you. Whether there is a show of its own within it, I don't know. We started laughing at all the references we saw at one point.

Watched it also. It's.... okay. I mean its nothing that will crossover to regular people. Etiolate is pretty much on the money about everything in his post. The special effects are mostly poor. The acting ranges from very subpar to slightly below average. To enjoy it you basically have to be a fan of sci-fi and alien stuff with all the baggage and limitations that inherits. I also don't think most of the cast is cast especially well but whatever. It's not the worse thing I've seen and its not the best. It's very solidly in the average category. I tend to have a soft spot in my heart for this sort of stuff and I'm a bit more tolerant of the weaknesses of the genre so take that as you will. Whether it improves or not is almost solely dependent on how well they have sketched out their overall plot arc.

You can watch the pilot episode here.

Just to be clear, I didn't think Defiance pilot was bad. It was just distracting to keep thinking "oh thats star wars, and oh this is deadwood".

With all the stuff going on, the show has potential. The father/adopted daughter angle could prove to be interesting.

It helps that I thought the daughter was seemingly the most well casted and acted part.

Other than my two notes, you're spot-on.

Just finished Season 5 of Supernatural.

Wikipedia confirms what I felt: the series was supposed to end with this season, and it was done-done-done, but then was picked  up for another, and another, and another.

Should I keep watching? I can't picture the show having a better end than s5 sported.

"Defiance" hit it big in the ratings for Syfy. The new series had 2.7 million viewers total and 1.3 million adults in the key 18-49 demographic.

"Defiance's" ratings in the 18-49 demo are the best a Syfy premiere has brought in since "Eureka" premiered in 2006. The "Defiance" premiere also had the highest total viewers of any Syfy premiere since "Warehouse 13" in 2009.

Depends.  There's good episodes in season's 6-7 but it's kind of a mess.  Season 8 gets back on track a bit.  If you really like the show as a collection of episodes, keep going.  If you really liked the overall story arc, quit now.

Yeah, it was pretty much the arc which had me. In fact, the s5 episodes where they're doing MOTW stuff while The Apocalypse is going down, I was pretty much "WTF?! What part of 'You guys are in the middle of The Apocalypse' did you fail to understand?! What is with this Mulder and Sculley crap?"

I will give the series a rest for now, see if I can live without it for a bit. I really enjoyed where it went, and the ending was faboo.

The entertainment news website Deadline reported on Wednesday that acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy, Pacific Rim) is developing Naoki Urasawa's suspense manga Monster into a possible television series for HBO. Del Toro and Steven Thompson (Dr. Who, Sherlock) will write the pilot that del Toro will direct.
