I tried watching BTE yesterday and that’s so totally cringey that I’m not sure why anyone was excited for AEW in the first place.

I'm still not sure why people like AEW. I completely understand hating Vince's "vision" for "sports entertainment," but it's not like there aren't other viable alternatives going on right now that do a better job at everything people SAY they want in a WWE alternative. NXT gives you great OMG workrate matches with coherent storytelling with believable characters; NWA powerrrrrrrrr is an incredible throwback to late 70's/early-mid 80's southern wrasslin with weird yet somehow charming shit, an emphasis on old timey grapplin, and well booked angles and characters. Impact is even a thing still and mostly doesn't suck outside of the dumb RVD shit. And that's not even going into shit like New Japan, AAA, etc.

The only things AEW really excels at are people doing moves at each other in high speed succession with little to no psychology involved and shitting on the idea of suspending your disbelief. And giving Jericho a platform, I guess. I'd honestly rather watch RAW, and I haven't bothered watching RAW in like a month.

Plenty of people like Young Bucks/Elite style of goofy "all the movez" wrestling and BTE nonsense. Hell those dudes built their career on that and making t-shirts. It just seems that number of people is under 1 million weekly.

I think people are still just excited that there's a big money promotion that isn't Vince. What struck me about BTE was how tonally different it is. I’m surprised people that like that are happy with AEW. What I saw would have me expecting a kind of more straightforward, non-goofy promo (although I must admit this is the only time I’ve seen it).

I'm fairly new to wrestling. I got interested in pro wrestling in general via seeing NJPW when they came to australia, and started watching it because I was basically expecting something like NJPW. (bucks, kenny, cody etc.) I can't stand RAW/Smackdown bullshit. I'm thinking I might just pivot to watching NXT or NWA powerrrrr. I don't hate AEW but they're kinda losing me. First few weeks I was glued to it but now I kinda drift out. The stupid bullshit with the Nightmare Collective is really sinking the fucking show.

My fav is still just going to the local monthly indie show.

I wasn’t necessarily looking for anything specific from AEW. I just wanted something different than WWE. And AEW is definitely in the same vein as WWE. I’m kind of finding that NWA meets my criteria for “different” which is unexpected. A lot of it is due to vague memories of 80s wrestling TV production, but I’ll take what I can get.
