I figured he just owns stock in Arkham, and letting villains escape/throwing them back in is like a superhero version of Medicare fraud.

He's got to keep rich somehow since Waynecorp never seems to make anything other than Batman gear. I would think that is the nichest of niche markets, but I haven't read any Batman Inc. stuff so maybe that's grown into a large consumer base recently?

Spartacus was absolutely masterful tonight. This is going to be a pinnacle-of-TV season if this and last episode are any indication.

Finished House of Cards, the American version. Decent enough show that grows on you a bit as it goes along. I'll definitely watch it when it comes back for the next season. Ultimately I still find the show a little annoying and disappointing in some areas but for current television standards its decent enough to good fare. I was curious so I watched the first couple of episodes of the British version and it sort of confirmed what I suspected. I don't like the tone of the American version by comparison. I don't like how self serious it feels. The British version is able to lighten itself slightly in that cheeky way the British have. The American version loses that unfortunately and feels too serious and like its trying for too much gravitas when the writing and material can't really support it. I found myself fast forwarding through some episodes just to skip scenes that went on too long.

I'm with you on the HoC, it's kindof okay, but unless Larry Sanders and Hank turn up in season 2, I think I've had my fill.

Banshee on the other hand, is the hand I'd use for having sex, fighting, driving dangerously, having flashbacks about fighting a gay albino prison rapist and the Amish (who make pretty good seedless blackberry jam).

Never heard of this show, what is it like?
It's a cerebral comedy/drama about a woman who has a public meltdown at the corporation she works for, checks herself into a holistic rehab clinic in Hawaii, and comes back "changed", and wants to "change" the world but often does so by being oblivious, narcissistic, and headstrong. It's a fascinating and heartbreaking story of the fractured psyche of a woman who just wants to do good, even when she often commits mistakes.

Here's a fantastic article that sums it up better than I can: http://www.avclub.com/articles/enlightened-is-tvs-best-show-right-nowand-it-needs%2C92934/

From another article, by TIME: "And in Enlightened, whether it planned things this way, HBO has the best thing TV is doing right now—a show no other network would probably make, telling a story that the movies couldn’t tell, not at such length and depth."

There is time. There is so much time.

Watch Blue Velvet; Isabella Rosselini gets naked in the same shot with Dern, and if you cross your eyes really hard, it looks like Dern is nude.

The Season 2 finale was an absolutely satisfying conclusion to the season.
Season 1 is the more cerebral, out-of-body, metaphysical set of episodes compared to the tightly-plotted Season 2. However, the episode that follows Amy's mother in Season 1 is my favorite of the series. It crushed me emotionally for like four days straight.

No idea, and definitely not recommended with Enlightened. However, both seasons have different arcs, so it's not as bad as some shows would be about it.

However, Season 1 is required viewing, for all of the foundation it sets.

Everyone guessed the reveal, but they were pointing at it pretty strongly in the past couple of episodes.

I am curious how it will resolve itself. Crowder is now under Tonin's thumb and will be looking for a way out, and now Ellen May is a pawn to be brokered with either the law or Boyd, and it feels like there's bound to be two or three more dead bodies by the season's end. Johnny's game doesn't make sense to me yet either.

It now feels like Johnny is working against Duffy. Not because he loves Boyd, but because he wants to break off and start his own illegal entrepreneurial enterprises. Hence, why he's trying to get money from Colt and why he wanted to show that prostitute that he's able to take care of business.

He's obviously aware that Boyd wants to get into a legitimate life and is probably going to use the respect/power he's been saving up as leverage to get Boyd to hand over all the keys he ain't using anymore. Boyd will probably agree, but then the last thing Boyd needs to do is maybe go after Wynn Duffy since Boyd is now on the Dixie Mafia shitlist for not delivering Drew. If they want to end the season with a tragedy, it would make sense for Johnny to get killed in all this.

As for Drew Johnson, he seems like he's become a good person now and is probably not going to use anybody as a pawn, and I'm betting he has a good amount of cash and fake ID papers stashed away. I wouldn't even be surprised if he stole the constable's "bug-out bag" while Raylan was still piecing it all together. I do wonder if he's going to make a visit to his ex-wife.

I was almost hoping he wasn't Drew Thompson with all the damn clues last episode.  :(

To repeat the clues I posted last week:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
-Shelby's the right age.
-Shelby is very interested in the Drew Thompson case.
-Shelby tells Ella May that she resembles his ex-wife. Ella May, coincidentally, resembles Drew Thompson's widow.
-Ella May fits into the clothes of Shelby's ex and seems like she could swap clothes with Drew Thompson's ex, too.
-Shelby's has a medallion from his ex of St. Christopher, the patron Saint of travelers. Is this to help him in his journey to becoming Shelby? A medallion of a patron saint is something someone who is superstitious might have--someone who might be a psychic. As a note, Christopher carried a child as heavy as lead across a dangerous river. After the crossing, the child revealed himself to be Christ and told Christopher that he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. Who else might have a heavy burden on his shoulders?
-Shelby, possibly from personal experience, tells Ella May that a person pretending to be someone long enough isn't pretending anymore.
-Shelby tells Ella May that during his first year as a police officer his uniform felt like a costume (this could have been a "plant" for the hitman, who used a uniform as a disguise). That police uniform might seem like a costume to a former criminal, like Drew Thompson.
-Frank Browning, who was on the psychic's list, resembles a fully bald Shelby Parlow.
-Shelby expresses interest in the widow, and rhetorically asks why "the pretty ones [like the widow] always go for the bad boys?" Is he asking why she was attracted to Drew Thompson but not Shelby Parlow?
-to really stretch it, in episode 6 Raylon Givens tells the blonde girl that "repeating a lie doesn't make it true." The next shot is of Shelby, looking somewhat unhappy.

And then we have Community. Why couldn't they go back to the first season premise instead of making the show even worse?

i am so ready for this. i should rewatch terriers actually. i need laughs.

i've been watching almost nothing but half heartedly keeping up with girls. the last episode was possibly the most horrible thing i have ever seen. i was exclaiming loudly often and frustratedly ripping off my head phones, generally feeling physically ill from what was going down on screen. i realise this is what they're trying to do so i guess it's successful but not necessarily fun to watch :s

the first half of this year should be great from here though. game of thrones, mad men, breaking bad!

Yep, FX continuing its reign as best channel of the decade. Ditto on Keri Russel. Been nursing a crush on her since I saw Honey I Blew Up the Kid in grade school :heartbeat

Giving up on The Walking Dead for a while, though. What a mess. Horrible pacing since the break, all kinds of opportunity squandered by how they've handled the prison vs Woodbury/Governor arc, and the usual crap writing and clumsy, contrived character "development."  Remember how back at the start of the season it felt like this might finally become a good show? Ha.

yeah i did not see that coming, uhh...
the whole ear thing was the worst for me i am very sensitive about ears and initially i was like "that is so irresponsible to tell people that that is a legitimate way to clean your ear". ultimately i think lena dunham may have taught people a valuable lesson but it's not one i needed or wanted.
i don't think adam scene was that rapey. it was pretty confusedly consented to. i figured he had grown tired of the facade he'd been putting on and decided to let his "true" self out as a way to get rid of the girl without having to be mean. this way he isn't seen to have intentionally hurt anyone, she just couldn't handle him. i guess we'll see in the finale but i'm done after that. i think..

i did nearly quit the show because of how heavily focused it was on Lena Dunham but at least it was well worth sitting through given her current state of mania. also, Adam and Ray makes the show exponentially better, especially when the two are sharing the same screen... even if it was only for one episode :(

though seriously, what's up with Charlie writing an app? talk about taking a writing short-cut...

in my mind Charlie being interesed in tech was analogous to the season 1 reveal that Adam was in AA; the girls have such a myopic view of their love interests that entire facets of their identity go unnoticed.  We see the male characters through the lens of the girls, and Marney could give a shit about Charlies hobbies until it actually translates in to status.
