masters of sex s2 chat: the pacing of this season is awful; they finally realized the study was interesting again and jumped the plot forward a ton after mostly sitting in the doldrums of whatever the hell Libby's plotline is

I realized that I found the dynamic between Masters, Masters Wife and Virginia interesting. Then once the show proceeded on to the sexual history between Masters and Virginia, this entire dynamic was ruined. Virginia became less interesting and Masters Wife couldn't be involved in the same way. History demanded it proceed this way, but it was bad for the show. I just have no interest in it anymore.

It's hitting the Showtime Season 2 Problem, which is what plagued Homeland. The Borgias didn't have this issue; it only improved with its second season. I'm beginning to think it might be the only Showtime show to not fall apart in its second season.

Maybe Weeds was ok in S2? But the show itself wasn't anything great to begin with.

But real-talk, the absolute time *saga* this ep of Masters of Sex had was just such a pacing whiplash. I could barely keep up with the time skips. It's like the show was trying to be Boyhood in 50 minutes instead of 160.

Someone give me a cliff notes on Rectify and why I should watch it. The trailer wasn't particularly descriptive.

A guy allegedly raped and murdered his girlfriend when he was a teenager.

He confessed, was tried and sentenced to death.

After 20 something years of appeals, a DNA test was finally done on the crime scene evidence. It falsified the prosecution's case and he was let free.

Now a breh who spent 20 years on the row has to come back to small town Southern America and try and try to start his life again (he was just a teenager when he was sent up the river) while the specter of another indictment looms over him.

Think Shawshank but bleaker.

Meh I'll give it a shot one day.

I still haven't finished Louie, despite the recent season being awesome thus far. I watch shows online but can't seem to find time to do so. And now football season is starting lol. Oh well, Homeland starts soonish I think, then Downton Abbey.

:snoop

I'm a sucker. Despite the decrease in quality I can't help but love Downton Abbey due to the characters and atmosphere; once the music starts I'm hooked. Also there's a communist character you would love, Kara.

After the first three seasons went by, I realized I was just watching that show for the T&A.  I think the producers of the show didn't realize that's all it was being made for until at least the fourth season.

Sadly I live in a house with a fanatic of True Blood. I had to scour the local Bevmo shops for True Blood sodas at one point.  :-\

Even after the show had consistently jumped the shark she continued to watch, thus I was forced to watch it.

Now we're onto watching Outlander...

I watched the first few seasons of True Blood. It was interesting the first season but you quickly saw the limitations after that and how this wasn't a concept that really worked for season after season.

Real Talk: Tabitha's Salon Takeover was probably the best in the genre.

Best episode was when some dude was running like 20 "businesses" (including travel booking) out of the back office of his wife's salon.

My mom sometimes watches Storage Wars or one of the knock-offs, you can tell how fake it is just because of stuff like that.

"I found an old bed frame, this is probably victorian era, definitely going to fetch $3000 giving me a profit of $2800!"

I like on the pawn shows when a celebrity just happens to stop by. It's Steve Carrell! And he wants to look at bicycles! Oh, and he's got a new movie?

Lena Headey gets better, when she's more comfortable in the role. There's a scene later on that shows that she's fit in the role. I think it's episode 6 or 7.

I think Lena Headey's meh performance is moreso due to the way the show has decided to portray the character. All she does is scowl, it's a very one dimensional performance overall until S3 or S4. I'm not some purist complaining about changes, I just feel like from an acting perspective it would make far more sense to portray her as duplicitous as she in in the books - sweet, kind, flirting, all while also being ridiculously jealous, violent, selfish, etc.

Watched a lot of the Simpsons today on the FXX marathon as they are still on the very early years.

Already the dip in quality is now noticeable. I'm not one of those people who thinks there were no good episodes after season 7 or something but the average episode is so much worse by comparison. I'm almost tempted to watch more of the later seasons to see how low it bottoms out.

Funny enough my brother still likes the show. Whenever we talk about it, I have to limit my discussion to the early seasons but he talks about things that were funny to him in recent seasons. To each his own.

I want to add that I've been occasionally checking in and yeah, I agree.  some of it is just a different type of humor that I'm not into it.  but you can see the change from characters to caricatures.  it's been entertaining to watch the older episodes.  makes me want an old fogey collection.
