Xequire is still around kinda making a come back. He's kinda just gone super left feild though. I really like this song and video tho:

This one wasn't bad either:

He posted a ltitle while back footage of him working with ALC too tho but we'll see. I think he's still trying to refocus/build the right way from stratch rn.

Sounds like Houseshoes had the beat Dilla made for Nas delivered to him. We'll see where this goes.

That Madlib track is mad disappointing. I'd be cool with hearing DOOM or someone like that on the beat, but I really don't want to hear Nas rapping over videogame sounds.

Yea it's definitely a weird choice. I appreciate Jaydee's rapping for what it is but who wants his contribution to a song with nas to be a verse and not a beat? Guess they're running outta material

I see you Mr Nobody.

American Hunger should be praised as much as Madvillainy, The Unseen, The Cold Vein, and all those other weird indie rap classics of the aughts.

American Hunger should be praised as much as Madvillainy, The Unseen, The Cold Vein, and all those other weird indie rap classics of the aughts.

I'm halfway through the first disc now and it still holds up nicely. Catching things I didn't before like how Right There is almost certainly a shot at Doom

"I was calm when I asked him why he wronged me
The nicca wild out, got Nino Brown on me
Kindness for weakness, when on the phone
nicca think I'm soft or something, hearing his tone
I keep two things, a gun and a plan
I'm not stable and he don't understand"

"Brother from the way, today he lucked up
Asked to help him out, cause he's fucked up
So I gave him work, want my income
Motherfucker told me, take it back in blood
That fucked me up, thought we were cool
Disrespect trust, broke all the rules"

"In rap game thought shit'll be safe
You'd be surprised how many get chased
Wheelchair shit, yep put you in the line
Think shit's sweet kicking verse about spine
Because you have fans that like to sweat you
Like I won't come and get you (nicca)
Put on the internet, that I threatened you
But Google can't save you
I don't give a fuck, go tell police
That won't stop me, you better call the priest
Snatch your life, I'm a thief, move quick
Scream you a tough guy, for you I have a trick"

And then there's the more obvious one Watch Out

 :dayum

This was the hardest rap beef I had to endure because Doom is one of, if not my GOAT, but I never felt Grimm had any reason to lie considering everything he's been through and sitll managed to help Doom out post-KMD.  :tocry

That aside, I'm loving how it's "grown man" rap without beating the listener over the head with preachiness and how much of the social commentary he spoke on 10 years ago is still very relevant today.

Skepta - Man (Gang)

"my mum don't know your mom"

"now all my white niccasas and my black mates got the game on smash"

"man eat fruit with the gang"

"I be schooling MCs, nobody leaves till half past three"

"Looking like I just came from PE"

Honestly isn't a classic album something that is great, has a lot of influence on the genre, has a clear impact, etc? Take Care fits that mold doesn't it.

I don't think the album is great but still. It's solid.

Sure, but 808s hits all those checks. that sure as fuck ain't a classic in my book, and drake's foot in the door was largely derivative of that style

As the resident dust head I'm surprised that I'm arguing in Drake's favor here...

Yea but Take Care certainly has more influence than 808s for much of the current sound. The reverb/90s r&b sample "Toronto" sound was popularized on Take Care.

I'm flexible though. Whether you want to call it classic or not, there are arguments both ways. For: what I mentioned. Against: it's not a "great" album.

For me an album has to be better than 'not great' to qualify for the discussion of whether it's classic or not - I just don't understand the concept of something that's just alright being regarded as 'classic'
The whole 'what's a classic' in hip hop discussion is pretty silly because it's such a subjective thing, but what's deemed a classic is usually done so by consensus.

nah
pretty good album, and quite influential (808s-->Take Care-->HOB etc (although this is more a concurrent thing)), but not a classic

I agree, albums I consider classic are perfect or near perfect and have some level of impact on the genre/future. But I can step outside that and at least entertain the argument of something like Take Care or Flockaveli as classic given the impact.

Like, what would you even consider as classic from the last 5-7 years? First albums that come to mind for me are XXX, Covert Coup, GKMC, and Marcberg. How many of those are moreso personal picks than clear classics is up for debate.

Also liking the new Gibbs.

But this VS and Gibbs are the most recent shit I've heard, so I'm wayy behind. Help.

Where you guys even find new music? Blogs and reviews? RL? The few real life friends I have who listen to rap are old af and stubborn and permanently stuck on '90s shit, and the internet is full of nerds stanning boring ass "conscious" shit brought to you by Rappers with No Flow and Weak Beats.

edit: lmao I've missed like the last four releases from Spitta. Didn't even know PTIII dropped.

Idk some lists of the best shit in the past 2-3 years would be much appreciated. Or somebody pls point me to some blogs that I can dig through
