Not really... but they will next season.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Glaber loses in history here, and then he either dies or something else, it's unknown. Oenomaeus was the first of Spartacus' generals to fall, so it makes sense for him to die here. Everyone else is flavor.

The real history book deviation will be Caesar, since he never had direct interaction with Spartacus.

Actually Glaber survives and is there when Spartacus' army is completely defeated. Same with Ashur.

You're wrong, PD.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Glaber died at Vesuvius, it was Crassus who mostly put down the slave rebellion, they really did use vines/weeds to get down from the mountain and do an assault on the Roman encampment, Onamaeus was probably lost in the battle. Varinius getting killed was the real fuck off to history but done for understandable reasons.

I'm kinda sick of the Naevia hate.

She's not worthless, she got her comeuppance, it was symbolic, and Ashur's two balls very large happen to be his downfall.

I would have wanted no one else to take him out.

The "hate" is well founded. Her character is going nowhere, holds very little plot relevance apart from keeping Cryxus occupied, takes screentime away from actually interesting characters and ads her bullshit I'm supposed to care about to the show, which I don't and I'd wager most people don't either.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
They could have used the death of arguably the most hated villain in the series as a vehicle to elevate one of the other more deserving characters in the mind of the public instead they bungled it on someone who they thought was useless enough to swap actors out on and have done zero all season. Nice. They probably got inspiration from the WWE for this shitacular choice
[close]

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Also I'm concerned that not a single villain with history remains. It's going to be hard going to get me to care about Caesar bar miracles. Watching it for action at this point, every characters point of agitation is basically rounded up. Whatever bullshit motivations they write for everyone to go on doing what they are now is going to make me roll my eyes. Sure the overarching slave/freedom theme is there, but where are the personal conflicts?

Illythria is still alive. I'd imagine she will get involved politically, perhaps with Crassus. Still, killing off ALL the rogue catalog could hurt the show. I suppose the death of Ashur guarantees we won't see another extended look at gladiators/ludus which will be a nice change of scenery, but I still wish he had been spared. Seeing him rise would have been an interesting juxtaposition with Spartacus. And historically the actual Ashur witnessed the death of Spartacus' army.

I had considered Illythia, but she didnt really have issues with Spartacus. The only thread of connection they had was thrown off a cliff. And reading Stringy's post .. just oh god :lol

They better have a high profile turncoat next season to spark some personal conflict. And that turncoat needs to have the presence of the villains that came before, a hard task.

It's really the only action I can see that would put that extra spark in their motivations. The task is hard because you wonder if they can do it well enough for the character to be hated for the right reasons

In an interview about S2 they said they only jumped a few weeks ahead as it wouldn't make sense to start S2 with Spartacus and 50,000 strong army. My main problem with S2 was it's lack of scale, though it sounds like that might be addressed in S3.

been watching episodes of Beyond Survival with Les Stroud on netflix recently.

what an excellent show. it's basically Les Stround (the real survivorman) going out to remote places and spending time with the natives to learn their culture and discuss the concept of modern ways mixing with the ancient ways and also how it (may) lead to the extinction of the old ways.

it's pretty fascinating. Les is great.

I would be OK if the writers said FUCK OFF to history and just did their own thing completely. Like have Spartacus murder Ceasar then set fire to the Coliseum. I mean the history books say they never found his body so he could still be alive right. lets roll with that.

Trigun was pretty rad. I only ever watched it on cartoon network, is there like an uncensored version that's even more awesome?
I have all of Trigun in it's original Japanese form, I'm not familiar with the cartoon network iteration though, so if you give me examples of where you think it may be censored I can always confirm if the version I have has different cuts.

I will be watching, after GoT of course. The reviews are mixed, with some calling it a CBS cop show pretending to be artsy. Most people liked the beginning of season one, hopefully it's more like that

It's kind of obvious the writers don't know much about detective work or don't care about details
